SG no longer selling Ammo to Calif

I tried to order amo cans yesterday and ammo today and the website wouldn't let me ship to Calif. I called Sportsmansguide and they said they no longer ship ammo and ammo related items to Calif. To my knowledge no new laws have went into effect have they? I buy a lot from SG, they just lost all my business.

semperfidelis354 12-05-2012 8:15 AM

They just lost a significant amoun of business IMO. Since California's laws keep getting strickter, if/when an ammo ban becomes a reality Californians will mad dash to any and all ammo sources.

Samco Global kinda sucks anyway. Their prices on both ammo and guns are very high. Plus, the Iranian 30-06 and Paki 9mm is garbage anyway.

Honestly, they won't be missed...

What are you talking about? The OP referred to Sportsmans Guide.

nick 12-05-2012 8:32 AM

As long as it's not SGammo that stopped selling ammo to us :)

As far as Sportsman's Guide, they were always weird, and came up with weird rules of their own. I've long since stopped using them.

I saw the subject line and nearly fell over.

I almost panicked when I thought you meant SGammo. :(

5 years ago they were great; they have an amazing deal with UPS or eat a lot of freight cost. Now, they are too successful, apparently, to figure out about imaginary California laws.

Well SG is just a bit more than Cheaperthandirt, but CTD never has free shipping deals and promos, which makes stuff more. I just got in yesterday some really nice boat seats clearanced from SG for 20 bucks each and free ship. No more SG, they are removed from my bookmarks. They wouldnt even send a stungun cane i wanted to give as a gift

Thought OP meant SG Ammo too! Was gonna say "well played Mayans..."

marcopolo650 12-05-2012 9:14 AM

I believe its on certain caliber which is stupid, I only see "No Cali" when I tried to order 7.62x54r but all the 5.45x39 spam cans are Cali Friendly!!!! I can get 7.62x54r from SGammo, they have better deals of this caliber type than SG anyways

I thought this was well known by now, like CTD. Although I do enjoy looking through both of their free catalogs

This x 10. It's already hard enough being in SoCal let alone LA County.

Yep, glad it's not SG Ammo.

Yerman 12-05-2012 10:27 AM

Anywhere in CA or only where they have identified on their website? Do you live in any of the below mentioned cities or counties?

WARNING: Ammunition cannot be shipped to Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Ventura and Yolo counties, CA; Carson, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento and San Francisco, CA; HI; Chicago, IL; New York City; D.C.; MA; Canada or Puerto Rico. Ammunition cannot be shipped Parcel Post. If shipping to IA, must be 21. Please check your State, County and City laws for restrictions before ordering Ammunition.

I just ordered a couple k rounds from them last month without issues.

Hmm wonder if this is true. Why out of the blue all of a sudden?

And whats "ammo related items" ?

I used to get stuff from them untill i realized they were anti-CA Dbags

Get your ammo from SGammo ... great outfit

Same!!

BigJ 12-05-2012 6:51 PM

Not so. SG is wrong about some rifle ammunition being "armor piercing" and therefore not legal in California (by CalDOJ definition there is no such thing as "armor piercing" rifle ammunition). Its that ammo they won't ship. Everything else is still good to go assuming the county in question allows it.

NorCalNative 12-05-2012 7:35 PM

I just ordered three buckets of .22lr and 500 rds of 9mm from Sportsman's Guide on Monday. Should arrive any day...

The lady that I placed the order with didn't bring up anything.

sjg1966 12-08-2012 1:27 AM

No more sportsmans guide for me if this is true.

I just ordered 2160 rounds of 5.45x39 for 50 dollars less than ammoman and it took my order

TacticalPlinker 12-11-2012 1:01 AM

This is a long time problem with Sportsman Guide. Absolutely nothing new and Posted about many many times here...

They refuse to ship the dumbest things that are in no way restricted or illegal in the state of California. I've seriously seen no ship to CA on AR dust covers and Glock slide cover plates.

Look at their magazine, 99% of it will not ship to CA. Their website was never any better. I gave up on them a long time ago and have not looked back.

Better prices and more California friendly service can be found elsewhere. Like SGAmmo for example. Or better yet, your local gun shops.

HK Dave 12-11-2012 7:10 AM

So I guess that membership I bought to backorder all that ammo i wanted was for nothing? Still 1 year and waiting.

ns3v3n 12-11-2012 9:49 AM

SGammo rules!

AlliedArmory 12-11-2012 2:50 PM

Sportsman Guide has been Anti-CA for a LONG time now.
