Mega Maten with JP 260 or 6.5CM barrel help!

I currently have a GAP built 308 on a Mega platform. I just bought another mono upper and I am unsure whether to go with a JP Rifles 260 or 6.5 Creedmoor barrel kit. I wanted to go with 260 just because I have a bolt gun in 260 and it would be easier to stick with one caliber, but I keep hearing something about magazine issues. Are these magazine issues true on Semi-Auto platforms? Or should I go with Creedmoor? Help me decide, thanks!

The only issue that I know of is when loading the 260 for a large frame AR is you have to seat the bullets deep in the case to fit the mags.
This removes any advantage the 260 would have over the 6.5CM as you are losing case capacity seating the bullets to mag length.

I went through the same thing recently....building a MaTen based rifle. I ended up going with the 6.5 CM. very happy with it. I used a JP barrel kit. Do a search on my user name and you can see some pics of the rifle.

Take care,Stan

I'm looking to make my LR308 in to a 6.5 and are also choosing between 6.5cm and .260 - I'm leaning towards 6.5cm, but I'm not finding any big differences.

- this article isn't new, but still a good read.

In a bolt gun the .260 would have a bit of a advantage where you can load the bullets long and take advantage of a bit more case capacity. Plus Lapua makes brass for the 260 where as your stuck with Hornady brass for the CM.

In the gas gun the 260 gives up any case capacity advantage and it beats up brass so most folks do not use Lapua brass.

For a gas gun I am happy I went the CM route over the 260.

You won't be able to load the 260 long with the AR mags, but there is some concern with the Creedmor not feeding as reliably as the 260 because of the steeper shoulder angle. Both have there trade-offs

Using DPMS mags I have had zero feeding or extracting issues with the CM.
