FIRST ANNUAL NEW YEAR'S DAY SHOOT - Update: After Action Report

The Gun Range will be open New Year's Day, and it seems like a great time to shoot. I expect it to be pretty quiet, but you never know...

Having a shoot on New Year's Day will certainly separate the real shooters from the wannabees. I'm thinking around 10 am, shoot a while then go get lunch.

Set your priorities straight and come shoot, but not hung over... Headaches and indoor ranges just don't mix. RSVP here, so we know how many to expect.

C3's will be wearing orange CGN caps so you can find us. Please wear your Calguns shirts, etc, so we can find you.

UPDATE: AFTER ACTION REPORT

The First Annual New Year's Day Shoot was a great success and everybody had a great time. It was very casual and low key. We gave away one of the first CGSSA T shirts and a lot of the new CGSSA stickers. CalGuns was certainly a presence at The Gun Range on NYD. Several non-members asked who we were and what we did.

We gathered around 9:30-10am. Almost half the Calgunners brought a " +1 ", wives, husbands, brothers, you name it. We're always glad to see new folks and all our shoots are family friendly. Lots of people were new to each other and made some new friends. It was a good thing we got there early, the place was over-run by noon.

We were able to completely fill the first two rooms (8 bays) of The Gun Range, with 12-14 people shooting at any given time, and taking turns. There were more guns of more types than I've ever seen outside a LGS, ever. From a tiny .22 handgun to the biggest semi-automatic rifle I ever saw (somebody remind me what it was. I could barely shoulder it, but I did). It seems everybody brought several guns and there was almost as much "ooh and ahh" as there was shooting.

It takes a certain amount of courage to shoot at an indoor range on NYD if you party at all. Nobody came hung over, and that was a good thing. They would have been invited to leave if they weren't safe to shoot.

You can read people's comments below. But these things came out of it.
  • People had a great time. Many were new to each other, many new to me, so socially it was a real success. I heard several shooting dates being set up for later in the month.

  • People want to do it again. So next year for sure.

  • People want to do more shoots of this type, so we like the idea of "National Holiday Shoots", early in the morning before it gets crowded, either indoors or out. Maybe with barbecue when it warms up.

We want to thank the folks at The Gun Range for being such great hosts and helping us to get bays that were all together, so it was like a private party.

If this is a New Years Day event we should do something special.

dynamomark80 10-25-2012 11:27 PM

maybe find some private land to run scenario/drills on to help me shed my winter lbs

in any case it would be nice to shoot with others and bs about stuff

NokSuCow 10-25-2012 11:49 PM

Did I hear private land and scenarios? *Too bad i'm SoCal X.X

roushstage2 11-02-2012 2:09 PM

I'll be at work, 110% guaranteed. :(

Lone_Gunman 11-04-2012 3:13 PM

I'm interested. Especially if its at Sac Valley. Bonus points for being able to run carbine/shotgun/pistol drills on one of the private ranges.

DannyInSoCal 11-04-2012 3:34 PM

I'd love to go -

But have a massive Vegas hangover planned.

Carry on....

gunace89 11-08-2012 11:27 AM

Will probably be hungover haha! But that hasnt stopped me before, where would we be thinking of going?

XVIga_Rob 12-23-2012 9:56 PM

I'll most likely be shooting. Just not really into the indoor thing.

elhefe50ss 12-24-2012 6:52 AM

the gun range is a nice indoor range try it bro!!:44:

akoba 12-24-2012 10:27 AM

I'm short on ammo. Only 180 rounds left (.223 & 5.56). I just used around 300 rounds last saturday and shoot all my .45 ammo. If i can get some more ammo, i will be there and leave before 01:45 pm (work is 2pm).

BonnieB 12-24-2012 12:09 PM

The Gun Range sells ammo at a reasonable FTF price.

No guarantees that they'll have your size in stock though.

dynamomark80 12-25-2012 5:06 PM

The Gun Range is pretty dam nice. I may drop by.
If your short on ammo the sell reloads pretty cheap on 500 round bags. cant afford 500? well make some friends and go halves on a bag. Winning
last time I was there they had 9mm, 45, 223 and maybe 40 too but im not sure on that one

that I know of its the only indoor range that allows rifles. 25 yards is close but I dont mind one bit

Loopwell 12-25-2012 10:11 PM

I will see if I can make it, might be stuck in the bay...I would love to meet more calgunners in Sac.

akoba 12-27-2012 4:28 PM

Who's coming to the new years day shoot?

elhefe50ss 12-27-2012 5:42 PM

I want to go Soooo bad but i have to work errrr:nopity:

Lazyme 12-27-2012 6:42 PM

I have decided to use my free day and take my Grandma to Thunder Valley. It's fun slipping money into her machine when she is not looking and telling her she won...she thinks I'm her lucky grandson.

Carsgunsandchics 12-27-2012 6:54 PM

I do believe me and the wife will be there around 10 a.m.

BonnieB 12-28-2012 12:43 PM

We're on for 10 am, New Year's Day, at the Gun Range. Please PM me with RSVP's.

XVIga_Rob 12-28-2012 10:17 PM

OK. I'm in. Probably bring my brother too.

My sisters each bought me a nice bottle of whiskey for Christmas that should be good enough explanation why I way not make it that early.

BonnieB 12-30-2012 9:53 PM

Safety, first last and always. If you're hung over, meet us for lunch after the shoot.

well I just worked a 60+ hour week and I now feel it so I think Im going to pass on the festivities. Sac Bee noted 44 DUI arrests this Sat. and Im thinking I really dont want to be out and about with all the drunk driving idiots are doing these days.

I will still have glazed eye because I never get up that early on my day off. Whats for lunch? Anyone set a place?

Loopwell 12-30-2012 11:24 PM

If anyone is interested I have like 600 or so rounds of 7.62 nato from pakistan. I need to part with then. Ill bring if youre interested $125 it's yours

Three questions - How nice is the whiskey, how cute are the sisters and are they single?

Sennasixty8 12-31-2012 2:10 PM

Is anyone from the bay area heading up? My wife wants to try out her new holster setup I got her for Xmas.

What are their rates? Double tap allowed?

17$ per person for pretty much all day no ins and outs. Rapid fire is allowed as long as it is controlled. Drawing from concealed carry is allowed after showing your concealed permit. Rifle calibers are allowed as well as shotgun. No Armor Piercing or illegal ammo.

Sennasixty8 12-31-2012 2:40 PM

Thx! Is a regular open carry holster "not" allowed?

Here's the link to them, this is directly to their rules. http://thegunrange.biz/the-gun-range-shooting-rules/

BonnieB 12-31-2012 3:22 PM

We're on for tomorrow. Wear your CGN shirts and hats if you have 'em. One lucky player gets a spare I have on hand, with the new CGSSA logo.

Markinsac 12-31-2012 4:51 PM

BonnieB - sent you a PM. Will try to make it. I don't have a CGN shirt as yet, will figure out something that will show me.

Loopwell 12-31-2012 5:12 PM

Sennasixty8 12-31-2012 7:29 PM
