LOC document post AB144

Mudcamper posted this great document regarding LOC in a NF pre-AB144, which he states is now outdated due to the new law.

- Since I am always open carrying in the NF, I carry the http://www.californiaopencarry.org/C...aOpenCarry.pdf WARNING! Outdated pre-AB144 information. Good for long guns only, not handguns.
Can anyone direct me to a similar updated post-AB144 document, or tell me what is wrong with the old one. I am coming back into the state and going backpacking in the Ventana Wilderness in the Los padres national forest for a week and want to bring a handgun with me, no rifles.

I have LOC in the Angeles National Forest, San Bernadino National Forest, Cleveland National Forest, and Sequoia National Forest without any problems but this was pre AB144 and not in a wilderness area.

I have read through this post http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=186457
but when I call to verify with the Forest Ranger, DFG and Monterey Sherriff they all say that they don't know and it would be better not to bring a gun.

I would like to bring some documents with me to show to an officer if I get stopped.

Thanks,

John

Outside of the NFs UOC of handguns is basically banned. In the NFs it is banned anywhere shooting is prohibited.

The Firearms in Forests and Parks thread that you linked has the most recent and useful information. There is also a printable version of that first post here.

The only thing to look out for shooting closures. It appears that some of the SoCal NFs are posting closures to shooting throughout the forests. This also makes them no carry zones for handguns, except in a lock box or in your camp site.

It doesn't look like they have done this in Los Padres. The only closure I could find was this one.

Check this out in LPNF Current Target Shooting Restrictions 2012

Recreational target shooting is prohibited in all areas of the National Forest unless specifically authorized by a special use permit with the Forest

Thanks Mg911guy.

So HK4113 this means that the current shooting restriction triggers PC25850 (no loading) and PC 26350 (no unloaded open carry), and PC25400 prohibits concealed carry. So you are left with only LUCC, in other words, your handgun must be unloaded and in a fully enclosed locked case.

While you are in your campsite, you may UOC, LOC, or LCC.

Now that closure appears to exempt hunters, but I would stay away from that because I also believe the lead ammo ban effects LPNF. (I'm not positive because LPNF is in SoCal and I don't go there.)

LPNF is most definitely in the Lead Free Zone (when triggered suchas while hunting)
