Question to servicemen: Are your guns and gear still marked "Property of US Govt."?

I know they marked them that way a long time ago, do they still do so for LE/Mil contracts?

I'm talking about weapons, backpacks, gear, mags, etc.

Most of my gear did not have us property

No, there may have been markings on the tags like "Manufactured exclusively for the Navy" or "Marines" but no giant stenciled "USGI" anymore. Most of my kit can be bought off the shelf.

The first M4 I was issued was one of the original chop jobs with a M16A1 lower attached to the shorter barrel so I do recall it had the Colt Pony with "Property of US Gov't" underneath it, but the newer ones did not.

I see. So they aren't really big on marking their own property anymore, huh? :p

Weapons are still marked. Gear not so much.

That.

My issued weapons had "Propert of US Government" on it but everything else had standard manufacturers blurb.

Even the M9 sidearms?

If I recall, I read that military-issued M9s have a certain serial number prefix (and a couple of cosmetic differences, mainly the dust cover and sights) to differentiate them from civilian 92FSes. They don't have "Property of US Govt." on them.

all the M9s we deployed with were the non-railed variants ... so on the the frame it said Property of Us Gov't and the ones that didnt have it on the frame had it where the rail notch would be . It wasnt engraved but it had a QR code with a serial # , some other numer and a Gov't marking on it . It was a pretty heavy duty sticker of some sort

If someone would be able to perhaps PM me a pic of these markings on an actual M9, I'd greatly appreciate it because this is news to me. All the military folks I talked to said there was no obvious "Property of US Govt." marking on their Berettas. Maybe they weren't particularly looking for it (markings) or they simply didn't think much of it until I asked them. But still, very interesting.

When I was playing with one of our medics non-railed M9, I noticed it said govt property on the slide. And inside the magwell was a bar coded sticker, which didnt interfere with mag changes. I believe all weapons are marked so, even our 249's, 240B, and M2's.

Are you looking to replicate Army markings on your 92? If so there are pictures on the net you can use.

KAVEMAN762 11-09-2012 11:21 AM

Talked to a buddy in supply and he said he seen a few different markings over 10 years. He recalls the most recent one he seen was on the extractor side it has the assembly number, and on the lower dustcover it says US 9mm M9 Beretta and another set of numbers. On the slide release side it also says US 9mm M9 and the manufacturer. When I get a chance I can clarify for you, I dont think we can take pictures in our armory though.

My gear was marked with US back when it was all green and I wore the pickle suit. Not so much now with BDU/ACU, heck you'd not even see the letters any more.

On my newset issued gear, most the items still are marked US, but Ive seen some with no markings.

I don't have a lot of issued gear and haven't touched a weapon outside of qualification, but we have some old, 30 years maybe?, tools that have us property markings on their cases.

I'm waiting for them to get replaced so i can "dispose of" the cases, but something about those old tools just doesn't want to give up.
