AMT Baby Auto Mag

http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1010012.jpghttp://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1010011.jpg Got a new tack driver from 1985, copy of the Ruger Mark II. How much oil or grease do they like? Do aftermarket Ruger parts fit? I just took over a hundred parts out of this thing, cleaned, and lightly oiled everything. Hasn't seen much use or cleaning, the casting marks on the rib could be cleaned up, but I like it so far. Thanks for advise, Steve

http://www.amtguns.info/forum_posts....&title=new-bam the last one I could find that sold was for $1600 and it didn't have the original grips

Roach_Infinity 02-24-2012 3:38 PM

Congrats on the unique piece!

PatriotnMore 02-24-2012 3:48 PM

Congrats, would like to have that, I had a relative that worked for them and they made a very good handguns.

tazgirlcat 02-24-2012 3:53 PM

the serial number is in the low 800's, I read that the highest # made before they went out of business was in the low 800's and they started with #101, is this true?

tazgirlcat 02-25-2012 5:23 AM

http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1010020.jpgI put a Ruger Mark II magazine spring in the AMT mag. AMT spring was so week that it wouldn't push follower up high enough for the bolt to hold open on the last shot.

VegasND 02-25-2012 5:33 AM

Very cool and rare pistol.

uxo2 02-25-2012 7:34 AM

I would not do anything to it...

Including shooting it.

Nice piece

tazgirlcat 02-25-2012 1:10 PM

Only shot it once so far to test after I put it back together, hell the over travel screw has never even been adjusted yet. It was more accurate than I could imagine, no failures of any kind with CCI mini mags. I'm putting a stainless 8.5 inch bull barrel on my Buckmark, same length as the AMT. Let's see if it can shoot that tight of groups

Longhill 02-25-2012 4:50 PM

One of my all time favorite looking pistols. I hope I get to shoot one in my lifetime.

tazgirlcat 02-25-2012 5:34 PM

where do you shoot? piru, a place to shoot, angeles, oak tree? I can meet up, no sweat

tazgirlcat 02-25-2012 7:21 PM

I havn't even had it a week and I'm trying not to get too attached, but until I find something that shoots better, I'm keeping it. I don't believe in safe queens, so it might have to go. No room in safe for something that I shouldn't shoot! Thanks again for the input, Steve

wtkaiser 02-26-2012 3:58 PM

+1 on that sentiment. To make it a safe queen would be a dishonor to the manufacturers. Congrats on a really nice piece of hardware.

jabell 02-26-2012 6:22 PM

So tazcat is it on the auction block?
I might be interested if you can part with it.
How much would we be looking at to steal it away from you?

tazgirlcat 02-27-2012 2:47 PM

need to do more research, I'd love to find an original box to add to the collectors value

tazgirlcat 02-28-2012 7:53 PM

Did you check the link I put at the beginning? They're aren't any for sale right now, only old adds of previous sales. It would have to be more than $1600, thanks for inquiring

CGT80 02-29-2012 9:59 PM

I didn't know that gun was worth that much. I could have one given to me right now if I wanted (but there is no way I would sell it, due to sentimental value). It is probably still in the original box. The other 1911 stainless AMT 45's have their boxes, and I think there is a 25acp AMT as well, in the same collection.

I had heard that AMT's were hit and miss as far as quality. I have shot 3 AMT 1911 45's and at least two of them have rear sights that will not stay adjusted. One of the three is a longslide if I remember correctly.

Are the AMT 1911's anywhere near the price of the baby automag?

tazgirlcat 03-01-2012 6:55 AM

I didn't know the value either, I hear the same thing as you about reliability. The value is because they only made 7 or 8 hundred baby auto mags. The 44 auto mag is over $4000

Roach_Infinity 03-01-2012 7:27 AM

CGT80, the short answer is no, AMT 1911's are not comparable to automags and baby mags at all in terms of price. (In general.)

I didn't think so. The two gun smiths that my dad, grandfather, and I have been to, didn't seem too interested in working on the AMT 1911's. They looked at the sights and replaced screws and pins, but didn't seem interested in putting something better on them. My dads amt 1911 would dissassemble itself as you shot it. He repaired that the best that he could.

My grandfather has the 22 AMT. I don't think he used it much. I didn't ask for it yet since I have a ruger MkIII Hunter. I told him he should give it to my brother since he doesn't have a 22lr. I didn't realize it was worth 3x my ruger. Oh well, my bro should still have it as long as he takes great care of it.

My dad has a Hi Standard 22lr. I have heard that they are well liked, but I don't think they fetch the same kind of money.

tazgirlcat 03-14-2012 5:14 PM

Lucky !!! Me wants one....

MarcM 03-28-2012 9:00 AM

Thats a nice looking pistol!

supaoopa 05-11-2012 11:31 PM

I purchased a used ruger mkii and it came with a AMT magazine that would not hold the bolt open when empty. Guess I know why now.

CGT80 06-24-2012 3:35 PM

I think I was wrong about my grandfather's 22 amt. I saw it a while back. It is a lightning version. A google search showed that the 22 automag is an upgraded/modified version of the lightning. It seems that the lightning is sought after as well, but I don't have any first hand knowledge about them.

tazgirlcat 07-29-2012 5:50 PM

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=290671747 this one went for $2175 last month without the wood grips, now I'm thinking of selling!

JNunez23 11-22-2012 8:57 AM
