DFG

I was on the DFG website today and wanted to register for a pheasant hunt but it asked me for a 10-Digit GO ID Number...Can anybody help as to what that number is and where I can go to obtain it. Thanks.

lc

Tripper 07-17-2011 4:06 PM

hopefully, you have an electronic hunting license
look in the area where your license has your name
GO ID
State ID
Your Name
Your address

its the first line of text under the barcode

Sheki 07-19-2011 3:47 PM

I don't have one...I'm assuming the new licenses has those numbers now...Thanks.

Tripper 07-19-2011 4:00 PM

yes, not sure on the older ones, go to your local DFG office and get a new license, I dont think there is any more non-electronic ones left, so, i'm guessing, if you dont have an electronic license, you may not have 2011-2012 license.

California hunting laws have ZERO requirements/restrictions for rifle round count or handgun or archery (:chris:) round count. Notice my emphasis. In other words, you can hunt, in California, with as many rounds (arrows/bolts :chris:) in your rifle, handgun or archery setup (:chris:) as is otherwise legal.

Fixing the FUD on Magazine Capacity

Magazine Capacity for Rifles, Handguns, and Shotguns

Rifles and Handguns/Pistols: There are NO Limitations set by DFG on Magazine Capacity for Hunting any species. If it is a CA Legal Rifle/Pistol you can hunt with it.

Shotguns for ALL Game Animals (+Crows): Big Game, Small Game, Upland Game Birds, and Waterfowl Hunting are limited to 3 shells (2 in the mag + 1 in the chamber) [Crows are Non-Game, but are also limited to 3 shells]
See F&G code Subdivision 2. Game and Furbearers 311, 353, 485, 507

Shotguns for Non Game Animals (except crows): Limited to 6 shells. See F&G Code Division 3, Chapter 1, Section 2010

Now that wasn't so hard was it?

Here is the letter I sent to the CDFW. I hope this clears the confusion.I'm going to take a copy of this with me when I go hunting.

Hello,
Can you cite a code regarding magazine capacity for hunting large game? It is a widely held belief that 5 rounds in a magazine is the legal limit for big game.I can find no codes to support that belief. With the increased use of AR platform rifles used for taking game the magazine capacities have grown. What is the official DFG stance on magazine capacity for hunting large mammals.
Thank you

More from DFG

Hello Mr. thomashoward:

Unlike shotguns, which are restricted to 3 shells when hunting game species, there is nothing in the Fish & Game Code nor the CA Code of Regulations that restricts the number of rounds a hunter may have in his/her rifle.

That being said, federal and state firearms laws address the issue of "large capacity" magazines. See the definition of large capacity magazine below. Please refer to the CA Dept. of Justice's website (or call them) for additional information regarding hi-capacity magazines. Also, be aware that many "AR" rifles (Colt AR15 series, Beretta AR 70, Armalite AR 180) are classified as "assault weapons" and are prohibited to use on a number of public lands. Before hunting any such rifle, check with the agency in charge (BLM, US Forest Service, etc.) and make sure you can use the gun you have.

CA Penal Code Section 32310.
Except as provided in Article 2 (commencing with Section 32400) of this chapter and in Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, commencing January 1, 2000, any person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends, any large-capacity magazine is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170.

PC 16740.
As used in this part, "large-capacity magazine" means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to include any of the following:
(a) A feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.
(b) A .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.
(c) A tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action firearm.

This contributes nothing to this thread. FUD from DFG is still FUD.
Unless you are trying to prove that even DFG employees dont know the laws.

Just an FYI, in 30 years of monitoring those channels and working on gubmint radios I've heard maybe 2 calls from wardens. They just don't use those radios a lot so don't expect to hear much.

Perhaps the 30 year old gear and techniques are due for a refresher than

While the traffic intensity can be describes as low I keep hearing numerous tickets, warnings given, cdl checks daily, fishing violations on Sacto river, Napa river, Petaluma river, even tactical comms , occasional poacher takedowns and reports etc..., location anouncements etc.
I must be doing something right. Try connecting an antenna...;)

spectr17 08-23-2013 3:54 PM

Maybe it's a Socal and central coast thing, that's where I monitor the most. Trust me, I've asked the wardens why no chatter and they don't want info going out over the air. Cellphones are their friends. Would your want you 20 going out OTA on a raid? Or tactics?
