WEGC Rangemaster retires.

As of 02/28/11 the one and only rangemaster for the public range retired today. So if and when the range opens again whoever is a limited member will be out of luck until further notice.

I think his name was Larry?
seems kinda abrupt, retired without having anyone taking his place?

Not if you consider what’s going on with WEGC and the board and the lawsuit it might not seem so abrupt. And yes his name is Larry, and he did alot for the range and he is a good guy, kind of gruff at times but that was just Larry.

im not a member out there so I have no idea of what is/has been going on with the club, I only go up there to shoot the monthly silhouette match. Larry is a straight shooter no doubt, prob just got caught in the crossfire and obviously doesnt need it.
Thanks for the heads up, i'll email Ed for a calendar update.

Speaking of WEGC, did it open up today as promised?

JAGGUY 03-01-2011 9:17 PM

I had been discussing this with an Admin in the WEGC website and just got this message:

Greg, I was told this evening that the range will be open to Limited Members this weekend. Volunteers have stepped up and offered to help run the range. I think you can go out and shoot with confidence.

Yeah things are just fine at WEGC, the board members/match directors have all voluntered to cover Larrys shifts until a replacment has been hired. Anyone need a job that is qualified should apply as they are hiring two people this time so this doesn't happen again. Larry was a little grumpy at times but he was a nice guy once you got to know him. I think he should have done right by the membership and given some notice though. He had a lot of food put on his plate over the years which was paid for by the membership and to leave them hanging was not right. What every happened to loyality to those that feed you. I actually would have never thought Larry would have left the members out in the cold like that. Sure am glad there are a lot of good members that don't mind voluntering!

We have all learned a lot about Larry recently through his handling of his departure from the club and, as the WEGC law suit continues through the system, I suspect we will learn a lot more about Larry.

I have found it is always best to judge people by their actions, not their words.

This will answer all the questions that were asked as to why I left West End Gun Club earlier this year.

I did not retire from West End Gun Club--I quit because my membership was taken away from me for politicing. This was after eight years of service. I was trying to encourage others to run for office, and I had a total of five parties interested. A statement was made by the president that nobody else would run, that we only needed a referendem to fill political positions. Three of these five were not ineligible because in our bylaws the word "should" was replaced by "shall." The other two were not of the "chosen" group, which led to a very hostile and threatening club meeting during late 2010. The current regime crucified these two, forcing them to file lawsuits.

After hundreds of uncompensated hours that I donated to the betterment of the club over the years, they attempted to shut me up and threatened me with termination. I QUIT ON MY TERMS--not to be fired under theirs!! As far as leaving the membership out in the cold, the only ones that would have suffered were the "match" shooters that would have had to open the gate for themselves. The Club is a 24/7 operation. At that time the range was not even available due to the inclement weather.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful friends I have made at West End Gun Club. I must have done something right for being a grumpy, old fart.

I just want to say Hi Larry!
I am sorry things went down this way.
I appreciate all the time you spent watching over all us shooters and you and your "grumpiness" is missed:)
It just isn't the same.

Haven't been back in awhile and just saw this.

Now that Larry has responded I will say the word I used, "retired", was out of respect for Larry. The crap I have seen go down at WEGC in the last five or so years was and is scary.

The "club" as it is now will not exist in the next four or five years if at all. The club is being taken over by a select few that want it for themselves. The club is governed by a few when it should be governed by the many. The board is rampant with corruption from within, the board members argue with themselves, are in constant conflict with each other to the point that some sitting board members have sent out mass emails to pointing out the shortcomings of the organization and what is truly taken place. Makes you wonder if they see a problem why most other don't.

About five years ago myself and a few others saw the writing on the wall in regards to future of the club and what a handful of individuals were attempting to do. A proposed bylaws change was made to give the majority of the voting power to the members with total transparency, with the board representing the members not just the "club". Those handful of individuals were able to prevent those changes by bringing to the meeting only those that would vote their way, and the rest of the members were either too busy to come or didn't care. (One of the changes would have been to allow members to vote by mail to prevent this)

From that point the club changed for the worst and now it's starting to come to light just what I and others had feared five years ago.

Raising the dues instead of lowering it after the property was paid off, banning members from the range and the club website that don't speak the boards approved message, attempting to circumvent the members by creating bylaws that give the board ultimate power, attempting to create a "shadow corporation" (their words not mine) to allow them, if they choose to, sell the club to the new "corporation" and turn the club into a for profit organization with no say from the members to even giving themselves a paycheck on your dime. The list goes on and on.

No Larry didn't retire he quite because he too saw the writing on the wall not to mention the crap he took. I suggest if you are a member you stop and take a look around, get to a meeting and just see how they run the club and spend your money. As for me I stopped giving them my money and won't even consider it until things change, but like I feared before I don't think the club will even exists in a few years so I won't need to worry about it. If you are a member or even considering it I suggest you get yourself to a meeting and see just what is going on and just how much say the member do have before you decided to spend you money on something you won’t have in the future.

You want to speak your mind without getting banned or threatened you might want to check out this new website. I was sent an anonymous email regarding its existence. http://www.friendsofwegc.org/

After meeting Larry for the first time I knew he was honest and straight up. Anyone saying otherwise is full of ****. If even 50% of what's been said is going on at WEGC then you board members are straight crooks.

StraightShooter 12-07-2011 10:36 AM

Randy Randy Randy, its time to let it go man. You win some and you lose some. The little website you and your friends made trying to stir up conspirace theories is comical to say the least. The only participation you have on the whole forum is all your buddies (about 4 of them) just blurting the same old nonsensical BS. You encourage people to go the the meetings, I do as well. When they show up you will see that it is run in a professional and open to the members manner. Just take a look at the improvements that have been done to the range recently. It has never looked so good and there are many more great things to come. You wouldnt probably know though since YOU ARENT EVEN A MEMBER OF WEGC AND HAVE NOT BEEN FOR QUITE SOME TIME. How can people even trust what you are saying when you arent even a member or are involved in the membership. You dont even go to meetings or participate. Whats your agenda man? Is the hammer about to fall on all of you with the lawsuit and you're just trying to drum up some last minute support? Sure seems like it.

Just go back to building rifles man, at least youre somewhat decent at that.
