does anyone know what the gun policy on nas lemoore is?

greasemonkey 06-07-2010 9:56 AM

I know general military base policies have been discussed quite a bit on this forum but I'm not sure what Lemoore's specific policy/procedure is. I can't do much to search right now until I get a new computer going, I'm using my iPod touch for web access for now.

Do a forum search and check Lemoore NAS's website.

I have been wondering about the Coalinga range

I will try to get out there sometime soon

I use the Lemoore Sportsman's club

very nice place that is clean and well taken care of

great tables made for lefties and weirdo righties ;) with stools

good supply of target stands and not usually too many people there

Rankin field was a huge disappointment for me, not well maintained and very littered up

there is no shade over the rifle range or is there any way to shoot off the bench

the bench is an old metal table that runs the length of the shooting area and is at an odd height.

greasemonkey 06-17-2010 9:37 PM

I've been working on a jobsite in the foothills near Coalinga, within distant earshot of the range; it's difficult to focus on work when I hear all the good times being had!

Good description from ironman5669.

http://www.visaliasportsmans.com/

Map & phone number included. RAW friendly as well as OLL friendly.

Please be aware that on match days the range will be closed for use, the public is invited to watch. Matches = Blackpowder/High Power/CBRSA (benchrest)/4H etc. If you call on a weekend and no-one answers, there's probably a match in progress.

Regards,
Brian in CA

You can start here;
http://www.persnet.navy.mil/NR/rdonl...0/NAV10196.txt

The text of the OPNAV is here;

Years ago the Country store on aboard the air station had an entire wall loaded with rifles and shotguns. Also a glass display case filled up with semi-auto's and revolver's.

But then so did Long's drugstore in Hanford.

The Visalia Sportman range is very very nice. Very clean. Just a few miles outside Visalia near the dump. Excellent parking- you park and walk 20 feet to the range. Nice insulated cover, comfortable even in summer. $10 for non members. Pick up a calendar which shows when the public shooting days are and when events are going on.

IMHO, this place blows away Rankin in every respect.

Lemoore range / sportsmans club

they need to replace the bails at the archery area.

I have taken friends who needed to shoot for a day/ try out guns..they need a one day option and not just a 3 day pass which is almost half the price of a years membership.

Can I assume this place doesn't exist anymore? Rankin Field seems to be the next closest, but it's still a bit of a haul from Visalia.

Not sure why you would say that, the URL for the website has changed due to younger/more web savvy folks taking a part in putting together a public front. If you know the area, the club's range is out west of the County disposal site - next door to the VPD range and the trap/skeet range.

This has been superseded by http://www.visaliasportsmens.com/ Aside from which, Google is your friend.

By the way, TaoFlederMaus has a MOST interesting YouTube channel, it's one of only 4 I subscribe to.

Hey Brian
Thanks for the link. Strangely enough, I did google it in the past. And did so again just now. No direct links to that website; only yellowpages/yelp/manta, etc. listings. When a business doesn't have an easily accessible website these days, I just tend to think it's gone kaput. Obviously erroneous on my part.

And I'm very new to the area (moved here 3 months ago). No idea where the disposal site is located and have NO idea what a VPD is or does:p

In your opinion, how does it compare to Rankin?

brianinca 06-02-2012 7:10 AM

A 200 yard rifle range, 28 benches and only 2 lanes for pistols (for members only) makes it hard to compare the two ranges. I hear Rankin is very pistol oriented, which is a great resource and alternative.

Both ranges are really busy despite being so close to each other, which tells you something about the number of shooters in the area.

Regards,
Brian in CA

Rankin IMO is a little less structured as far as rules go. On the shooting range/s the shooters tend to police themselves where the Sportsman's range has definate "Range is Hot" with lights etc.

Rankin has more spaces for pistol pratice. The rifle range has less spaces and is limited to 100 yds.

I like them both. I generally go to Rankin because it's closer from me.

TFM has a great Youtube channel. What happened to the videos that were posted from the pumpkin shoot we did at VSA?

I think the video got flagged for the music. I need to reedit it and post it again. Let me know when you have another event and I will try to make it again. I don't pop into these forums as often as I should and there really aren't that many new posts in this section. So when I do post it's usually in the main CG area.

Went to Rankin Weapons Range yesterday, I loved it. Staff was friendly, the place was really clean, prices were awesome. I will definitely be going back.

Is Rankin still doing for fun company every 3rd Sunday?

bobby7321 10-01-2012 8:05 PM

+1 for visalia sportsman's association. Range is very nice.

I would like to know of any other ranges that go out further than the 200 in Visalia. I see Coalinga goes out to 1000, any other options close by? (I'm in Visalia) Got some new long range toys I'd like to test out.
