I have a Beautiful- Fully Engraved 45-90 86 winchester. This Rifle has a deluxe tiger maple stock and forearm. the engraving is pure art. I have no proof of the engraver. I have the Certificate from the cody Museum on the History. excellent bore. The front sight is pat. dated. This was in my Dads collection for years. Ive inherited it and due to medical circumstances its going for sale. Forgive me- I havent done a ton of research on this-I know its worth more, but I cant sit on it for months while the big money shows up- so here it is- a real collectors piece. $15,000. O.B.O

Got to love the Older Rifles-

when things were simpler and tactial hadnt been invented yet.

Beautiful Rifle, it needs to be lettered though. Serious money will then be interested!

"There is an name engraved under the lever- prob. the engraver. J Ulrich".

That is a guesstimate at best. Either it is or it is not engraved by J Ulrich. If I am not mistaken, Ulrich was normally incorporated into the receiver engraving. A Cody letter would make you money!

I have a cody letter- It doesnt mention the Engraving. So it wasnt done at the factory, ive seen other ulrich signatures in the same place- but there is no way to verify it.

(Have you looked into Little John's Consignments? They often have 5, 6 digit items for sale).

if you haven't sold it by Nov 11...take it to Reno. There is the big reno show, but in november its the Winchester Arms Collectors show. There will be alot of winchester experts and people with DEEEEEP pockets. Get well!

You might want to post DOM. Also contact the fine folks at winchestercollector.org and see if you can get any more info on the engraving. If itís not factory or identifiable it may actually reduce the value to serious collectors. Lots of good info over there.

GreenMountaineer 11-14-2017 10:51 PM

Ive researched as much as I can-Theres no documentation from the factory on the Engraving or who did it infortunatly. But then again back when this was done, people werent interested in resale value or documents. and that put me in a pickle trying to sell it. might boil down to just keeping it. Sadly I just dont have the time to realy dive deep into reasearch. Im being schooled as I go. But from what Im learning is that if there isnt a photo of the guy engraving it, then there isnt adequate proof. Ill try a little longer we'll see- thanks for posting
