Good price for CCI mini mags 22lr?

One of my coworkers is selling boxes of 40grn CCI mini mags for $13/box of 100.

How good of a price is this? I haven't bought any mini mags since Walmart had them years ago. I do remember PSA had them on sale for $12/box of 100 a week or 2 ago.

Thanks.

Just got some from Gander Mtn for 7.49 bx/100
With shipping, 8.39. They are out of stock now though.
PSA has the 375 choot'em box for 64.95 if your desparate!!

Jester3 08-05-2013 5:13 AM

Used to be $7 a box before the frenzy, went up to $20 a box. You can get deals @ $10 box nowadays from marketplace, just they are still hard to find from venders.

Like covingtonhouse said that's about the norm online. I've seen them as low as ~$6.49 to $7.99 online but you have to be religiously looking for them and be lucky to get any. Private ammo sales here are usually $13 to $15. If I really needed them for this weekend and didn't have anything to shoot I would probably buy enough boxes just for that. If it was just to add to my reserves I wouldn't pay more than $.08 cents per for them.

Hyperion 08-05-2013 6:14 AM

Walmart sells them for $7.27.

CV62 08-05-2013 6:58 AM

That's not bad. I paid 12.00 for a box of 50 of Winchester SuperX at Big5. .22s are hard to find in my area.

nil 08-05-2013 7:21 AM

Thanks. None of the Walmarts in my county have had any mini mags since I started paying attention in January.

In his text he also said something about CCI stingers. I've never heard of or used those. Should those be priced the same as the mini mags?

If I can get him down to $11/box should I consider myself lucky?

Paperchasin 08-05-2013 7:30 AM

Stingers are more expensive than Mini-mags. I'd stick to Minimags if I can find them.

wavelengthsf 08-05-2013 7:40 AM

They're coming back in stock more frequently - i'd try to get $10/box if you need them.

mshill 08-05-2013 8:34 AM

The wal-mart price on the shelf is $7.49/100 but there hasn't been anything on the shelf since December.

I got some a few weeks ago at Sportsmans Warehouse for $7.99/100. I have only seen them once since then.

$.13/rd is very expensive for non match-grade .22 ammo

kcheung2 08-05-2013 12:33 PM

Funny how everyone is quoting these great low prices, but they also mention that it hasn't been in stock at those prices in months.

OP, it's a fair but not great price, but your coworker has it in hand now, and no sales tax. Mini-mags also tend to feed better than most other brands.

SonofWWIIDI 08-05-2013 1:21 PM

If you can get it for .10 or less per round (including shipping), I'd snatch them up! Hard to find at that price, but diligence pays off.

You may also consider trying to find some winchester m-22. Bought a couple of bricks (bulk) and they work as well as the minimags for me. They have a black copper coating rather than red.

Old Scribe 08-05-2013 2:07 PM

A desperate friend of mine had a couple bricks for sale @ 69 a brick. Still too much for this child. Guess he wasn't that desperate.

Stingers are ~200 fps faster than a mini-mag and cost a hair more, if you find them.

I usually buy from a source in Tx; seems like the middle of the country has 22LR.

Match grade Wolf for 20 cents a round; paid this weekend. If I can get stuff for 10 to 14 a round its about as good as it gets unless you meet the truck at Walmart or Big5.

Send some more of that plentiful 22 in CO over our way.

oligoodday 08-05-2013 2:21 PM

$12 here in our local shop

covingtonhouse 08-05-2013 4:54 PM

still....13 a box is better than this!!

No Limits though. It seems they've got plenty at this price.

Stewdabaker23 08-05-2013 6:00 PM

I just saw cci bulk pack of 325 for $23 .

covingtonhouse 08-05-2013 6:09 PM

Walmart sells them "When & If" they have them. A guy could go weeks and spend $$ driving around looking, only to turn up empty handed. If a coworker has them at $13 a box, I'd buy as many as I could. It's not like there going to go bad.

Wicked K5 08-05-2013 7:31 PM

I've been able to come across them a couple times in the last four months at my local walmart. I'm now kicking myself for passing on the bulk Minimags in the plastic ammo can that they had for $98 a year ago

smak28 08-05-2013 7:34 PM

That's way too much! I would say be patient and wait to pay no more than $9/box of 100

It makes me cry when I think of that day last October when I walked into Walmart and looked at the three plastic ammo boxes of CCI Minimags (1600 round count) selling for $98 ... but didn't buy any of them.

I was lucky enough to buy 2 of those last year at Wal-Mart Mountain View. Funny thing is, I went back a few days later and they still had 6-7 left on the shelf.

I must have been there very shortly after you. I saw the 3 cases, went back the next day and they were gone and the clerk said they aren't getting any more.

At the time 1600/$98 wasn't convincing enough. I bought Fed Bulk 5250 for $160 shipped. Nowadays, it's gold, but last year it was not. Hopefully things will return to normal or near normal.

BruceR 08-07-2013 1:09 PM

It'll get back to normal when the usual ammo hogs are finished stockpiling tens of thousands of rounds. Very little of the new ammo purchases is being currently consumed -- it's all going into storage.

The same thing has happened with auto fuel: people go into a buying panic and take every opportunity to buy more. After the nation's fuel collective tank level has risen from 1/2 full to 3/4 full, the demand spike levels off and even takes a dive.

It's all human action and reaction.

Firearms_Dealer 08-07-2013 5:45 PM

Turner's had a bunch of them this morning. I came in 30 minutes after they opened and they still had 10 boxes of 375rd boxes available and no one else was picking them up other than me.

It's one per day limit but they allowed me to get 2 since no one else was there...

8 cents per round....9 cents per round after tax

santamonica9 08-07-2013 6:04 PM

my LGS -> retting had a dozen of them come in. selling @ 8.50 a box of 100, limit 2 per customer. i tried to get their early but I missed out and they sold them all

skeleman63 08-08-2013 9:40 AM

i picked up some Remington Golden Bullet HP's when I was at my mom's house, in AZ, last week for about 8 cents around.

my local big 5 had winchester white box 1000 counts for $45/box = 4.5 cents a round....that's pretty good....
