M&P 22

And so now the 10 day waiting period begins, i just bought it today and i compared it to the m&p 9 and they are about 95% identical, pretty cool little gun, was on sale for 375, and i paid 430 out the door, not to bad id say. I havent really read any bad reviews on it, all the reviews deemed really good, what do you guys think? what are your thoughts and experiences with this little pistol? ill do a review when i pick it and post a few pictures

lcw 06-26-2012 2:57 PM

Did you get the CA version? No store has the CA version around me.

ZachT951 06-26-2012 2:59 PM

yeah, where are you located at? they told me that they had a few in stock maybe you could get one from them?

Excaliburr 06-27-2012 9:35 PM

After you get it, please feel free to review it for us. I have had a Ruger SR22 pistol and I would be interested in if it is justified to have to spend $75 more after dros and tax.

Hey Zach, you mind PM'ing me the store location / info? I'd definitely like to pick one of these up asap. Thanks.

Quiet 06-27-2012 11:09 PM

I would also like to know where this store is located.

darqhelmet 06-28-2012 8:38 AM

What is the slide made out of? After all the crap I am having to deal with on my GSG1911 I am looking for another none ruger .22 pistol.

VL221 06-28-2012 1:11 PM

I am so tempted to buy the MP22. But only 1 magazine and the difficulty and expensive to buy additional magazines seems to be a deal breaker to me.

I will highly consider it though if it costs about $350 before tax and DROS...

On-line is the way to go for mags and misc parts.

A friend of mine bought one of these this year when they first came out. Very nice 22. That thing was very reliable even with the cheapest ammo you could buy. That thing would eat anything. Good buy ;)

SoCalSig1911 06-29-2012 12:07 AM

I just got one recently in Burbank and have a review of it on here. The guy asking what the slide is made out of, it is aluminum. Great gun! I am sure you will enjoy it as much as i do. Put 100rds of CCI mini 36gr and 400 rounds of federal bulk and had 1 fail out of all those rounds and it was one of the fed bulk rounds that didn't feed into the chamber. Just put a Viridian C5 green laser on it. When you go to the range bring the tools with you that the gun comes with as you might have to adjust the sights, mine were not sighted in and was shooting to the left. Once you loosen the set screw on the front sight it moves freely so you can adjust. Congrats!

boxcutter3005 06-29-2012 6:23 AM

If you guys are in the San Diego Area, Parallax tactical had one in stock as of yesterday.

fauxkat 06-29-2012 7:22 AM

lcw 06-29-2012 11:35 PM

fauxkat 06-30-2012 7:22 AM

mc21 06-30-2012 8:14 AM

fauxkat 06-30-2012 10:09 AM

Parallax still had one in the display case yesterday afternoon after I picked up mine.

Mr.MattyV 06-30-2012 10:28 AM

I have one and I love it. Brought it when I moved from Pennsylvania. I had no problems finding mags for it. of course they were 25 rounders that I put restrictors in. Im not really liking the full size mag and 10 round limitations out here :(

Wrong S&W M&P-22.

Sounds like you have a S&W M&P-15/22.

This thread is about the S&W M&P-22CA.

SoCalSig1911 06-30-2012 7:08 PM

My receipt doesn't specially say ca on the model, and my Sig did say CA on the model on the receipt. These two guns were purchased at different locations though.

fauxkat 07-02-2012 6:54 AM

Mine does not say "CA" on the slide either.

So it's a machined slide? Does it feel like a Center fire M&P slide or is it lite and cheap feeling?

It felt pretty light but didn't feel cheap persay. Felt like the p226 conversion kit that I had.

Out of all the semi auto 22's (non ruger/buckmark) i held the M&P22 felt the best as far as quality, fit, finish, and weight. The ISSC felt the cheapest, if that makes sense.

+1. No doubt about that the MP22 feels the best. But if it was more competitively priced with 2 magazines I would of bought it in a heartbeat.

It is also very hard to get a hand of the MP22 since it recently got approved.

I have to agree that the price tag seems a little steep for what still seems/feels like a toy and only 1 magazine. I just got 3 more from a retailer since I do plan on using it.

ZachT951 07-05-2012 5:24 PM

i get to pick it up tommorow , i looked at it tuesday and mine does not say CA on the slide either, it felt great and had a good finish, but ill have more info on it tommorow when i pick it up

It's gonna be a long night! :D

ZachT951 07-06-2012 12:05 PM

after a long awaited night i finally have it, its a great little gun, it feels really comfortable and solid, its a decently sized 22 as well, im a pretty big guy and this gun fits my hand just right, ill write up a full review later on today, and may possibly take it out tommorow, only thing is that the place i got it from didnt have any mags in stock so ive only got one, ill compare it to the 2 other 22's that i have which are the GSG 1911 and the Sig Mosquito

Don't forget to take the tools with you to the range.. My front sight needed a little adjusting. Once you loosen the set screw it moves freely.

scootle 07-09-2012 2:22 AM

How do the M&P22 magazines compare in size to their full-sized brothers? e.g. will they fit properly in the same magazine carriers?

If it wasn't mandated to have the thumb safety on the M&P22 vs. a full-caliber M&P, this would make a nice training piece. Minor difference, I know, but enough that you'd likely need holsters specific to accommodate the thumb safety (pretty sure my full-sized Raven is not interchangeable with the thumb-safety equipped pistols).

Will a no-thumb safety version come to the US? Who knows... if one did show up, I'd be first in line!
http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...l-half-cocked/

I'm sure this is a fun pistol regardless. Glad to hear it's not too picky with ammo. Happy shooting!

Quiet 07-09-2012 5:51 AM

It is suppose to be marked CA on the slide.

If it doesn't check to see if you have a threaded barrel.
Because you may have gotten a non-approved version and the non-approved versions are considered assault weapons under CA laws [PC 30515(a)(4)(A)].

This happens every now and then when a handgun gets placed on the Roster and in the rush to sell them, some CA FFL dealers will sell the non-approved version thinking it applies.
Examples... Glock 21SF with ambi-mag release & Kahr Arms P-380.

So, if you get a non-approved version.
Immediately remove the threaded barrel and make it CA compliant.

The M&P22 magazine is thinner than the centerfire M&P pistol magazine.

The manual thumb safety is required because it is a single-action only pistol that uses an internal hammer hidden under the slide.

Sku number for the Ca model is 122002

ZachT951 07-09-2012 11:56 PM

Well the dealer i got it from said that it was on the list and was on the CA approved handgun list, with the serial number thats on the gun, afterall the DOJ says what handguns are legal, if it comes to that it would be considered an AW I will just use some JB Weld and red loctite,( or blue which ever one is permanent) would this be sufficient? I can always tack weld if necessary

mc21 07-10-2012 10:42 AM

Picking mine up in 30 mins :D
