Bought the wrong size shells...

...so I went to sportsman's warehouse the other day and ended up buying the wrong size shells. Ended up getting 20 Gauge instead of 12 Gauge. Now I have 100 rounds of shells that I can't use and as far as I know sportsman's warehouse isn't going to do an exchange for me. Any ideas on what I can do? It bothers me that I just wasted $26

If you have a membership to a shotgun club, they usually rent guns to members for free. Could always try a different gauge gun.

Unless you have something other than birdshot.

oneeyebear 08-13-2012 12:02 AM

Nope don't happen to have a shotgun club membership

KWalkerM 08-13-2012 12:10 AM

Chaos47 08-13-2012 12:19 AM

^ This, indeed, or find a friend with one who'll loan it to you so that you can properly dispose of the offending ammo.

CK_32 08-13-2012 5:36 PM

And I bought the wrong barrel... Where in the same boat.

oneeyebear 08-14-2012 5:12 AM

Damn they wont take back a barrel??

I would consider a 20 Gauge eventually but I'm good with my 12 Gauge for now =D

Write down your gauge on a sticky note, take it with you next time you need ammo.;)

Well, there is only one reasonable solution, buy a 20ga shotgun.

phrogg111 08-17-2012 12:36 AM

Can't believe no one has posted this:

BUY A 20 GAUGE ADAPTER FOR $20!

They work in any 12 gauge shotgun!

Don't those only work with break action double barrels? I could be wrong.

^ THIS! FOR THE WIN!

How is there even a question here? Clearly this is God and the Cosmos telling you that you need a 20 gauge. You don't want to piss off God and the Cosmos now...DO YOU!? :43:

oneeyebear 08-18-2012 5:28 PM

Haha i guess i shouldnt but I'm not into shotguns very much mostly picked up my 12g for home defense

Dont get me wrong they are great to shoot but my 12 gauge is enough for me right now

They work in everything!

I've used 12 gauge to .357 magnum/.38 special, and 12 gauge to .22LR adapters in my 36" bolt-action shotgun before and after I sawed off the barrel to 20", and I've used them in my 32" full choke Winchester 1897 - no damage to the barrel! That's a pump gun, works perfectly!

Obviously these adapters won't be cycling semi-auto guns - but they'll work in those too! If you've got a 2 3/4" chamber, you're good!

OMFG I need one of these :D any one know if it would work in my single shot 12 g with built in full choke barrel ???

CK_32 08-19-2012 3:09 PM

IMO those are retarded wastes of money.

You have to eject the 20 shell conversion every shot.. Not worth the time of day IMO

yeah but my local range wont let me shoot any of my guns only pistol calibers so 20$ is better than buying a new gun for my broke arse :43:

Just updating this thread. I ordered my adapter and luckily it came today right before we go shooting. So i will be testing it tomorrow, i have tested its fit and surprisingly it even pulls it from the shotguns magazine. So if i got 2 or 3 more it would eliminate the inconvenience of loading one at a time

I am going to shooting range and give to them maybe trade for a few 12 what ever but it aint worth shipping to sell. and lesson learned I will always tripple check the ammo from now on. I have slugs so if anyone is in roseville you can have them

2 or 3 more you might as well have bought a 20ga mossy 500 ;)

Please do let us know how this thing works, I'm quite interested in one of these now to see if my wife would be comfortable with 20ga recoil (since she HATES the 12ga.)

Don't feel bad it happens. If you have the receipt they should exchange them you are not returning them.

beretta929mm 09-26-2012 4:19 PM

same thing happed to me once at Walmart. The clerk grabbed the wrong box. I caught the mistake after paying, so I was eligable for an exchange.

So an update about the adapter. Don't waste the money, mine broke in my Remington 870 after about 10 shells. I will post pictures and the website i bought it from as well

I almost did that when I was at Walmart getting 100 rounds of birdshot. They had it all in a special section, except the genius who stocked it made it alternate from 20ga to 12ga back to 20ga and etc..

Canucky 09-27-2012 8:44 AM

Hey bear!!!! email your # I will trade you for 12guage.
I'm in Roseville.
That is if you haven't made a deal with Rob.

ElToro 09-27-2012 8:34 PM

i got about 50 boxes of 20g one night at Wally for $1 a box. federal game loads. in 6 and 7.5 and 8. took a while to find a good 20g, im still shooting it up...

no such law that I know of prohibits a dealer from returning/exchanging ammo. It is basically a CYA rule that the sellers have, and they hide behind "its against the law to return/exchange ammo" BS.

to be 100% honest I have no clue but the guy selling the ammo talked way to good about ATF ect even told me a story about a guy buying then trying to return right then ect. I belived him even at the customer service desk at walmart there is a big sign saying no return or exchange on ammo. why wouldnt they exchange ammo unless something is stopping them?

But again it was $30 bucks worth of slugs I didnt care to much since I should of looked anyways.
