Bloomberg: "Government should infringe on your freedom"

“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,” Mr. Bloomberg said, during an appearance on NBC. He made the statement during discussion of his soda ban — just shot down by the courts — and insistence that his fight to control sugary drink portion sizes in the city would go forth.

The government should infringe on Bloomberg's right of free speech...

Wonder if that would acceptable to liberals...

LuvLRBs 03-25-2013 8:03 AM

Some commentator this morning said having Blomberg's image as the face of gun control is a gift to gun owners. No sweets, no plastic, no trans fat, no guns. Daddy means well.

Untamed1972 03-25-2013 8:11 AM

Sounds like the voters of NYC need to infringe on his privilege of collecting a paycheck and vote that kook out of of office.

nrvnqsrxk 03-25-2013 8:12 AM

It's funny how the rich think.

Patagonicus 03-25-2013 8:13 AM

A very telling quote from the King of the Nanny State. This and his anti-2nd Amendment push are clear signs that he doesn't trust the public with basically anything, and that he needs to be the one controlling them from atop his ivory tower.

monk 03-25-2013 8:19 AM

Meh, even the ignorant are entitled to their opinion.

Dutch3 03-25-2013 8:19 AM

Bloomberg is a legend in his own mind.

CessnaDriver 03-25-2013 8:29 AM

Wait till it's his freedom and watch him change his tune.

Rusty_Rebar 03-25-2013 8:30 AM

I like how he turns "shall not be infringed" into we should infringe on some rights.

Johnnyfres 03-25-2013 8:32 AM

Bloomberg is the anti-christ

This is what I think

Oh come on now, don't give him that much credit! He's just another rich and powerful jerk who thinks that his unsubstantiated opinions should be forced upon everybody else.

glockman19 03-25-2013 8:39 AM

Everyone should bow to the self annointed King...:rofl2::nuts:

penguin0123 03-25-2013 8:44 AM

This guy is like King George III: both despotic and mad.

jetoboy88 03-25-2013 8:56 AM

Well at least he's finally honest about himself instead of going about his usual gimmick of "oh I care about your rights, but we FEEL that we need to (insert stupid idea)".. FWIW

garand1945 03-25-2013 8:58 AM

He does not stand with the founding principles of American democracy. He needs to read the declaration of independence again.

RMP91 03-25-2013 8:58 AM

After that statement, he's definitely gonna need all that armed security he has!!!

Disclaimer: Not a threat, just calling it as I see it.

I doubt it, his skull forms the natural defense to a hurled shoe.

Deadon 03-25-2013 9:24 AM

How is this guy still in office. Even the Libs in NY should be getting sick of his ways. Im sure a ban on starbucks must have got to them so what gives?

MONEY. I'm legitimately worried he'll try to buy himself the White House in 2016.

DaveInOroValley 03-25-2013 9:39 AM

When I read this article earlier today I thought that the people of NY had more testosterone then they obviously do putting up with this idiot over the years.

mjmagee67 03-25-2013 9:47 AM

Dictator Bloomberg has never met a liberty he liked. We are far too stupid to think for ourselves.

How is this any different than the view that convicted felons can't exercise their rights after their punishment has been served? Or that mentally ill - according the the government's definitions - can't exercise their rights? Or that the government can infringe on our rights to keep and bear the types of arms that we want such as full auto, DDs, etc.? Bloomberg is expressing something that many people are too afraid to admit: that infringements on our rights are acceptable. Not very unlike many "pro gun" people.

Bloomberg Approval Rating Steady

Quote:

Half of registered voters in New York City — 50% — approve of the job Mayor Bloomberg is doing in office. Included here are 13% who believe Mayor Mike is doing an excellent job and 37% who say he is doing a good one. 32% give Bloomberg fair grades while 16% rate his performance as poor. Two percent are unsure.

merrill 03-25-2013 10:30 AM

Thanks Bloomberg for the wakeup call. He and the President are starting their last push on gun control and now I will start mine. I wrote out and mailed a check to the NRA-ILA today and resumed emailing, calling and writing.

It's not any different than that view and I do not agree with it either. Rights are for everyone.

He definitely could. Crazy people like him are great at selling an image and after Clinton, W, and Obama I think Americans are by and large too gullible to realize who they are actually voting for.

glock7 03-25-2013 11:44 AM

He just wants to save us from ourselves....

CessnaDriver 03-25-2013 11:46 AM

And conversely, there are times when the people should PUSH BACK HARD when government infringes.

OleCuss 03-25-2013 11:49 AM

The only thing new about a fascist saying that it is fine for the government to infringe on your freedom is that one had the honesty to say what he is about.

I'll give some props to Bloomberg on that one - now let's hope he gets booed off the stage.

I also hope Bloomberg had a lot of his billions of dollars in Cypriot banks.

nicki 03-25-2013 1:10 PM

He is almost honest.

I guess he doesn't view us as free persons, but subjects of the state.

He got elected in New York because he basically bought the election.
His new campaign slogan should be.

"Mikey knows best".

Bloomberg is the worlds biggest azzhole, I hate him.

Charliegone 03-25-2013 1:21 PM

Bloomberg can go shaft himself.

donw 03-25-2013 2:56 PM

all this BS coming from a man who flies to Bermuda almost every weekend on ONE OF his privately owned planes with two armed bodyguards.

the police on Bermuda granted him permission to have armed bodyguards...the police of Bermuda are not armed...

i just today heard that on a radio talk show...roger hedgecock AM760

Bloomberg is a strange beast for America, a filthy rich fascist. Most of the filthy rich are too busy spending their money to exercise their God complex. Not our Bloomie. What a tool. I think we should infringe on his freedom to use his billions for nefarious, criminal ends.

That's horrifying to think of.

I posted a thread in OT about how bloomberg was quoted saying he doesn't know how we're going to be able to keep our privacy in the coming years. Mainly talking about domestic drone use. This guy is Everything Americans should hate.
