Need a little help/info with my LR308 build.

Alright so I figured this would be like an AR15 boy was I wrong.

Whole new ball game. Anyways I'm building a LR308 from a JD matching set in DPMS pattern. I have basically a complete lower and just need to build my upper. This is where I need you guys!

I'm trying to stay near the SPR MK11 pattern. Basically focused on CaPRC and Desert LR trips.

So first things first I'm trying to figure out what BCG and barrel I wanted, but found out they don't have 308 BCG's. So whats a good reasonably priced BCG?

Also I WAS set on a Krieger barrel but looking at their site it seems like so much work to get one ordered. Can anyone help me and walk through the order process? It seems like its $400 for a blank and when done around $650.

So talk me onto a good barrel and BCG. Then when we get that I'll be back for help with the rail and optic mounts. Does anyone know if the MaTen and JD receivers have the same receiver rail height?

Also I've asked this on the hide and rifle section and doesn't seem like many know much about LR308's or wanna chime in. So this is my last resort haha

You could always go with an Armalite AR10 BCG, as long as your using a barrel with an armalite extension you would be ok. You can also buy an extension and barrel seperately and have a smith put it together for you.

Armalite and Dpms barrel extensions and bolt carrier groups are interchangeable.

I went with the DPMS SASS barrel and BCG on my build. I am very happy with the results so far. Still in the process of building still have to put glass on it when money permits.

Thanks for the info, when I was sourcing parts for my mega MATEN I was told to use the same barrel extension as my BCG.

I was thinking about a DPMS BCG w/ JP Bolt and a krieger or battling barrel.

I read that Armalite barrels weren't the "best" in precision standards. Which would be the better option for the investment? Armalite or krieger option? I'm sure both can out shoot me from the get to but I just want to do this one right and that adapter sounds like one extra step.

Armalite barrels are "production" grade barrels.
Bartlein or Krieger are "match" grade.
They are double the price of an armalite, but you get what you pay for...
I charge $300 to finish out a barrel from a straight blank so you do end up about $650 into a complete barrel.

Yea I contacted Krieger and they quoted me about $600 after I supplied bolt for head space. But they only have 20" SS only. I'm looking for a match 18" hopefully in 1:11 in black finish.

Bartlin hasn't gotten back and GAP said they have too many orders to sell barrels they have to focus on their GAP10 orders.

I can easily cut a 20" barrel down to 18" for you.
Then have the barrel finished in black oxide or ceracoat.

I got a JP Enhanced bolt and parts kit, and then a Young's Manufacturing carrier with staked key, and it works exceedingly well. Others are quite happy with a whole JP setup with their low mass carrier and matched barrels.

I went with a JP LMOS BCG on my LR308. I originally had a Shadow Ops BCG, but returned it since everyone seemed to have problems with it. It was more pricey ($400 from Brownell's on BF vs $230 for Shadow Ops) but I think it's well worth it considering JP makes excellent products and I'll feel less recoil. As for barrel, I went with a Mega Arms 20". Yes, I had a gunsmith check the headspace on my bolt & barrel, for both .308 and 7.62x51.

Thanks for the input guys. For the cost I went with a standard BCG at least for now.

Here is how I ended up. Figured I'd update since I forgot I even asked this to show where I went and that I got it figured out for the most part.

As soon as I get the optic I can measure for my scope mount and then all that's left is flibbin ammo. Can't find any 168 Amax's that are priced right to save my life.

Hopefully this weekend I can grab a box of 308 and function fire it at my local range.
