Residency question........I am about to embark on a major remodel to my home......moving out temporarily for a few months to avoid construction dust etc...... My home will remain my "legal" residence....yet I'll be in a rented condo during construction.

What is the definition of "residence" when applying for CCW in a case like this?

You'll be okay. Make sure you explain the situation your interviewer. Also, I'm sure your neighbors probably know you so they'll be able vouch for you that you live there.

Not sure why they still are doing residency checks but my interviewer asked me for utility bills from my previous residence to prove what county I live in.
They don't want LA county residence to come to OC to get a CCW. I moved 4 days before my appointment.

People are getting their permits and no one is waiting two years for an interview. When's yours? Jump on the band wagon….

I was just notified that my Sept 2017 appt has been moved up to March 2015, with an earlier date still possible. Yeah!

I have have to imagine you will get an earlier date.

I work in Orange County but reside in San Diego County. Will the OC Sheriff issue to people working in OC?

Just got home from picking up my CCW Permit.
Inspecting the card, and last pistol manufacturer was wrong.
Should be a Ruger LC9 and they made it Glock LC9. i just emailed Melissa. She will mail me a new one with a return envelope for the mistake card.

Please inspect everything before you leave OCSD upon pick up of your CCW!

Make sure you check all serial numbers , make and model of your pistols listed at the back of your card! Because my 3rd pistol was listed as a Glock LC9.....LOL

Are there any ammo requirements when taking the training/qualification?

I guess it depends where you get your training but at FTA they wanted you to bring 200 rounds for your primary weapon and 75 round for any additional weapons.

I should have been more specific. I'm wondering if there are any requirements as far as handloads or factory loads etc. I know of some folks that have difficulty firing a lot of factory standard velocity rounds from pocket pistols. They start to flinch after a while and their accuracy deteriorates rapidly. Aside from saying they should practice with what they will carry they are concerned with getting through the training/qualification process.

No. I used all my own reloads during the CCW class. Use whatever you have.

Our ammo was not inspected.
If it runs in your gun, you are good to go.

The requirement at FTA at least is that your firearm does not malfunction more than 2 times. A 3rd malfunction results in disqualification of that firearm for inclusion on your license. So it's a good idea to use good quality ammo that you know works flawlessly in your firearm.

Don't forget you could have a malfunction for other reasons other than bad ammo such as limp wristing, failing to seat a magazine all the way, etc. So you might want to stack the deck in your favor by using quality ammo.

The guy at Evans range told me if I had any malfunction at all in the 72 rounds, he would have to disqualify the firearm. Just sayin...

I witnessed this during qualification at FTA. One student had a small .380 that had 3 malfunctions and he was removed from the line immediately on the third failure.

I similarly witnessed a failure to keep more than 72 of 75 qualifying rounds on the silhouette. Again, immediately disqualified.

Don't let qualification be the first time you fire your new CCW gun. I would run at least a few hundred flawless rounds prior to qualification. Ensure you can easily drop magazines and lock the slide back without transferring the firearm from your shooting hand. You will work harder than your peers during qualification if you don't have at least 3 magazines / speed loaders during the 200 round primary weapon qualification. 10 round mags also help. Be sure to not bring IWB holsters, even if that's what you will actually carry, due to safety.

Wow 200 rounds to qualify? I think it's 72 per handgun with Greg Block. Definitely should make sure your handgun is reliable and you are proficient with it prior to taking the class for your own safety as well as the general public :)

It could easily take 90days and more.

The cost with training and ammo about $550 - $600 for the initial permit.
It is good for 2 years.

Renewals are significantly cheaper. I think those are $77.

I did my interview this morning. The only thing that seemed a bit out of the ordinary to me was some of the questions they asked. These questions where not listed on the original application. ( maybe it normal but this is my first time) For example they wanted to know if they were any tickets even if you went to traffic school or court and they were dropped. There is also a question asking if you have ever been convicted of a crime. They went beyond that and asked if you ever used drugs, if you have every been charged with anything even if charges were dropped or dismissed. They were very friendly , professional and informative.

I may be moving to Orange County for a job. Is there a minimum residency time required to apply? Are they still taking a year+ to get around to issuing permits? Also, what are the political winds like? Is OC likely to rescind its currently permissive (to the extent that its rather ridiculous set of requirements, when compared to neighboring states, can be said to be permissive) issuing regime if/when a new sheriff takes the helm? If I recall correctly San Diego and Riverside counties did a big about-face when that happened.
