Problems with using Crimped .308 blanks to shoot then reload?

Yeah exactly. I would THINK that the crimping of the top would make them unusable and weak but at 13 cents each I am wondering if it is worth it for the brass to reload? IMI brand.

Thoughts?

I have read about this before, no experience. It was ill advised from a fairly experienced member. I think it had something to do with the case being weakened due to the crimp and was prone to catastrophic malfunctions.

At the very least, I would expect to see split necks after the first reload.

Factory new brass costs $0.50 or less, and can be fired 5 times, for a total brass cost of $0.10 per shot or less vs $0.13 per shot for your blanks...with the lovely possibility of nasty stuff happening to that brass even on your first reload...not worth it. Not saving any money, unless shooting the blanks to make them ready to reload is somehow worth it to you.

Depends on the crimp --
If they are like the 06 blanks with a small "roll" crimp they will work fine -- If the type with several longitudinal crimps down the neck they are not worth the effort ---

I would not attempt to reload that stuff. At an operating pressure of some 59,000 psi, the 308 case mouth needs to be substantial and conform to the chamber. Those severly crimped cases are, in my opinon, not reloadable for projectile ammunition. Maybe they can be reused for "blanks".

I read somewhere that blanks were made from brass that was rejected for regular loaded ammo. Seems like a good use of something that would otherwise be sent to the recyclers.
