Monthly shoot - I did it...can you?

Hello fellow Sacramento shooters!!

I have started putting together a monthly shoot in the Sacramento/Roseville area!!

Next scheduled shoot - http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=628801

It wasn't that hard to start - all I had to do was set a time & date and post it on Calguns.net. I want to get some feedback on what you all think about starting you own shoots at your local ranges.

Give it some thought and throw out your ideas!! It looks like there are a bunch of people looking to shoot at the Lincoln Rifle Club off of HWY 65 (Lincoln) or the Gun Range off of Watt Ave (North highlands). Also plenty of people looking to shoot during the week if that's your schedule.

Speak up and set a date!! If you build it they will come!!

Tim

It sounds like a fun day out. Where exactly is the Lincoln Rifle Range? Other than in Lincoln...

Will Lincoln let you reserve a bunch of lanes on a weekend?

That's what i'm thinking.

BonnieB 08-31-2012 11:13 AM

Yaayy ! I wanna play ! Is this meant to be a hang-out-and-shoot? Or a competitive shoot? Handguns or long guns?

And, most importantly, will they give us group rates?

Lazyme 08-31-2012 12:22 PM

Good questions! Keep em coming and I will try to get them all answered as soon as possible. Hopefully I can make it out there this weekend to ask questions and get some shooting in also.

What I do know is that they are closed on a regular basis for member events and shoots. The website is under construction at the moment or else I could relay more information.

If Lincoln doesn't work out does anyone know of another range that might want to host a monthly get together?

ElDub1950 08-31-2012 12:36 PM

I like my Sac Valley range. No idea about how they can handle groups. No problem with Lincoln either. Never been there so variety is nice. I'll go, but depends on the dates.

2shotjoe 08-31-2012 12:54 PM

Sac Valley range +++++++best, up to 1000 yards. Rapid fire only in the special ranges, members only i think or a course.

Rancho.... :puke: too many scum bags, also many stolen firearms and suicides. Wannabe gang bangers and noobs go here.

Spenceville.... always been good for me. Rapid fire ok, don't bring 30/30 mags, several people this year has been arrested.

Gun Range on Watt Ave... new, 25yard indoor. rapid fire ok. Scum bags are around the corner.

ElDub1950 08-31-2012 1:00 PM

Definitely not Rancho for me.

gunpacker 08-31-2012 1:12 PM

Hey gang,
I'm from the Shingle Springs area, but, I'm in for Lincoln. PM me with the info, date time, etc.

Thanks:2guns:

2shotjoe 08-31-2012 1:30 PM

Sep 29th shoot at Spenceville.

Were people arrested just for possession of 30 rnd mags or for using them in a BB'd rifle? I have 30's for my Mini-14 that I've had for almost 20 years (pre-ban). Who did the arresting?

I'm a big fan of Sac Valley shooting center. The private ranges are available to be reserved by members, I think non members can shoot on the reserved range too, as long as the member that reserved it is there as well. IMHO Sac Valley is the best range in the area, but I've never been to the Lincoln range. How far out does the Lincoln range go, and can we rapid fire?

200 yds, no rapid fire.

sharxbyte 09-13-2012 3:35 PM

I'm in! PM me date and time and I'll try to be available :)

savannah 09-13-2012 3:39 PM

Lincoln site is very close to me and I am a provisional member. Just joined. The website is up and running now. I would definitely be interested.

General 09-13-2012 4:05 PM

Sac Valley shooting center, PM me.

Jet Setter 09-13-2012 5:08 PM

Lincoln is definitely a better option. It is safe, clean, and easy to get to.

I'll vote for Sac Valley too. Went there for the 1st time a week ago.......wish I wouldn't have waited so long.
The Sac Valley "public range" is similar to the Lincoln range, but much better.

Let's get this ink'd!!

spetsnaz 09-14-2012 8:47 AM

Anyone know how the membership at sac valley works?

Prices are reasonable. I was told (under 60yrs) $150/yr. They will pro-rate ($9/mo I believe). Also, dues can be offset, by performing volunteer work at the site. See the website or give them a call 916-354-9668

BonnieB 09-14-2012 10:28 AM

Where are we at on this? Do we have a date/place yet?

ElDub1950 09-14-2012 10:31 AM

Going to Sac Valley tomorrow so I'll ask if we can do this on one of their action ranges. That would be ideal imho.

Will post their answer later. If it's possible we'll see what everyone thinks.

Sorry, forgot. I was told that the membership is a family membership.
Members have discounted prices and kids shoot for free.

The membership is $150 a year, that entitles you to shoot on the ranges for $3 vs the $14 non-member price.

Use of the "action bays" is contingent on going through an orientation on the bays and has a $5 fee.

All fees are for the day, not hourly.

NRA membership is a mandatory requirement and the club offers a discounted $25 NRA membership

The membership is a "family membership", you, your spouse and your children under 18.

They offer a volunteer program where you provide your labor (10 hours per year) in return for a reduced membership rate, $100 versus $150.

I tell people the story of my first trip there. A buddy of mine, who is a member, and I were in the area coming back from a trip further up the hill. We stopped in so he could introduce me to the club, and as we had been on the road for a while, I headed for the restroom first. After I finished, I came out and told him "I am going to join, they passed my bathroom test". The restroom was very clean, no graffiti, etc. That told me that the membership, range staff, etc. cared about the premises.

I try to shoot my pistol(s) there at least twice a month, anyone that wants to meet there, let me know.

Also, membership for us 60+ is only $75.

Like cranemech, the first time I went to Sac Valley, I was so impressed, compared to the couple other ranges I had been to, that I bought a membership before I left. I've been going at least twice a month for a couple of years.

They were pretty busy yesterday so I didn't try to take their time discussing it. I'll call them this week. Just want to make sure how/when we can get the action range orientation scheduled and if we can get a group discount for non-menbers.

Would love to check out Sac Valley with the group, before getting a membership. Judging from the website, sounds like a cool place to be. Where exactly are they located?

Just this side of Ione. About 30 miles east/southeast of Sacramento.

Their Contact Us page has map and directions.

They're open to the public every day except Wed & Thu.

foreppin916 09-19-2012 12:14 AM

for sure sac valley shooting center! they got rifle targets from 100 to 400 yards on steel, handgun from 5-25 yards on steel as well! and you can set up your own "shoot houses" in certian areas!

prop carver 09-19-2012 3:17 AM

Lincoln works for me.

roushstage2 09-20-2012 1:07 AM

I can do Sac Valley. Having a membership too, you can bring up to I believe 4 guests with you during member's only days (Wed and Thurs). Seeing the volunteer thing brought up: I've heard that they don't allow the volunteer work to count for a reduction in fees anymore? Maybe if I ever remember to ask one of these times...

I was told the same thing by one of the range staff.

I talked to Larry, the Sac Valley general manager, and he verified that there IS a $50 reduction in your membership fee if you have 10 hours of volunteer time before your renewal.

For the senior members it is 5 hours of volunteer time but I don't know what the membership reduction would be.

BonnieB 09-23-2012 11:23 AM

Do we have a date and location yet? Someone make a decision !

cranemech 09-23-2012 12:40 PM

Went shooting at Sac Valley today, always a pleasant experience. I went and observed the military rifle silhouette shoot afterwards, for about an hour or so, pretty interesting stuff.
