Bipod for 22 rifle

I want to mount a bipod for my rifle, but there is no sling mount or screw/hole for it.

Its a Savage 64FXP, I know its an entry level rifle, but its what I have. Am I going to have to drill a hole into the stock?

trob 07-24-2009 3:11 PM

to do it right, i think you need a sling stud.

then get a harris...its the only way to go

penchf 07-24-2009 3:32 PM

yeah, youre going to need to install a sling swivel. If you want something that looks like a harris but for less money, wally world has one, forget what its called though. someone help me out...

kidrice 07-24-2009 3:41 PM

so does that meansthat i have to drill a hole into the stock for the swivel?

yes....i guess you could try krazy glue

penchf 07-24-2009 3:47 PM

not really sure with your model...alot of synthetic rimfire rifles have them already installed. does it have holes predrilled and possibly plugged with something? if not, you have to drill it, and if you have to drill it, make sure you know what youre doing. There are other bipod options out there, that can attach to your barrel instead of a sling swivel. But having sling swivels is almost a necessity since it allows you to carry your rifle.

If you just wanna plat with a bipod a bit, you could get one that fits over the barrel. I've probably got one around here that I'd be willing to part with. If you have your heart set on a decent bipod, get a harris. If you want the most ridged and stable bipod, look at the Sinclair bipods. They are not the type you cruise through the woods with though.

I mounted a wally world bipod onto my savage stevens .22 I drilled out the rivets that mounted the part wich would mount to the sling swivel.I removed that part and then matched up those rivet holes onto the stock,I drilled out those holes into the fore end of the stock. It's very sturdy and I paid close attention to get it level. I did this quite a few years ago,and if I had to do it again I would install a sling swivel.

If you dont want to drill into your stock, there is this choice but its not the best solution or option.

The ones I have seen at wally world are made, or should I say have the name of Winchester on the packing. They look like they are not to bad and for half the money of a Harris.

IsaacGlass 07-25-2009 12:18 PM

Which wally world? MTN View store dont carry them.

penchf 07-25-2009 11:00 PM

the bipod is called the "rock mount" and it is made by Shooters Ridge. Some walmarts carry it, and from what ive read at other websites, its identical to the Harris in terms or looks and performance, but for half the price. I saw it at the Salinas CA walmart for $40ish. If your walmart doesnt have it, just google it for lowest prices.

penchf 07-25-2009 11:20 PM

this guy is selling it for 26 bucks on ebay, cept it has to ship from aus.

Some Walmarts like the San Bernardino store, have the Rock Mount at $30, its priced to clear, I believe.

slik556 07-27-2009 11:18 PM

Found two of the Rock Mount bipods at my local wally world and got a killer deal. They where marked $30.00 clearance and when the clerk rang them up  $20.00per. Not bad $40.00 for two bipods

wow good deal! where was your store? i wonder if theyre priced to clear everywhere...maybe i can get one at my store :)

Bobotheclown 07-28-2009 9:38 AM

Think I'm going to have to swing by my local Wally world and see if they are $20. No more swapping bipods between my two rifles.

You have to look for this one, the new ones that they are selling are the same thing but in a winchester package. Let them know that it is a clearance item and if you are lucky, like I was they may knock more of the price. MY STUNNING GOOK LOOKS:rofl2: GOT ME ANOTHER $10.00 OF EACH ONE LOL. But you never know if you don't ask......

Thanks for the tip! After checking every WW between LA and SD within 1.5 miles of the 5, I finally found one for $20 at the one location I went to that wasn't within 1.5 miles of the 5! :D

I did manage to pick up a pack of 8" Shoot-n-c type targets for $2 and 3 packs of the orange pasters (variety pack) for $2.

Word from the guy behind the counter is that WW's replacing most/all their hunting stuff with the exact same things but labeled as Winchesters so the non-Winchester stuff's gotta go.

Walmart sells the Rock Mount bipod for $40

Use a Uncle Mikes Sling Swivel Stud to mount it. Just drill a hole and screw it in. Works great on my 10/22

I use a Harris Bipod. No other way to go. I went cheap to begin with and after a year it broke. Get a Harris the 1st time. They don;t cost that much more

snobord99 08-04-2009 6:50 AM

Yea, it was the Rock Mount I got for $20. I'm kicking myself in the arse for not picking up a pack of Uncle Mikes when I saw them for $2 now because I thought the bipod mounted into the screw slot where the swivel stud goes, not on the stud itself :(.

AlliedArmory 08-04-2009 6:57 AM

that is a very decent bipod. it's a steal at $20

Which is exactly why I went to every WW on my way home looking for it :p
