Realized my stupid mistake...

So I am slapping my forehead right now... Apparently in all my reading I missed the fact that I should absolutely not, under no circumstances never ever ever sign the original copy of my ffl03... Guess what... I signed it. It was just one of those things. I pulled it out of the envelope saw a line to sign on and signed it... What do i do now?

Why is that? Sorry if I'm not helping here... But I would like to know why not and what do if if you did? Thanks

yellowsled 02-27-2013 12:24 PM

white out, then photocopy so you can send it out for purchases. then go back to the ATF and request another copy. no biggie.

Blackglengarry 02-27-2013 12:26 PM

Ok. It always seems like I miss this stuff...

I believe it's because the signature on the photocopies you send to various vendors needs to be an actual signature and not photocopy.

You can probably use it with folks who will accept a faxed or emailed scan of your FFL-3.

You need to contact ATF Martinsberg and tell them what happened -- ask for a new copy to be issued. Don't worry, you're not the first person to sign the original!

Scan a copy of your signed FFL. I can't remember the last time I actually had to send a copy of my 03FFL.

I almost always email a copy, occasionally fax it.

jthesby 02-27-2013 12:55 PM

Why not scan it, white out the scan, then use that for future scans?

You don't need to white out the signature on the scan. Whatever you email to the seller will need to have a signature on it.

Some sellers will only accept copies with fresh ink on the signature line.

C&Rtrader 02-27-2013 1:28 PM

When you get your fresh one... first thing.. scan it and email it to yourself. That way you can always print fresh copies anywhere in the country.

I also keep a "signed" shipping/file copy in my inbox ready to forward at any time.

Tape a piece of white paper over the sig, then make a bunch of copies to sign and send out.

Bingo! We have a winner. ^^^

If you use your 03 in person, or you are dealing with a company that still requires you to mail a hard copy, the regulations require that the signature must be signed in ink.

A copy of your 03 is as valid as the original, but the signatures are supposed to be in ink. So the ATF just recommends you photocopy your original and then sign the copies in ink.

Since most places take scanned copies now, it really isn't a big deal for the OP. He can just make a .pdf scan of the signed-in-ink original and use that for out of state stuff. And if he wants, he can just request another copy from the ATF.

Yeah, I did the same thing when I got my ffl 03. Call the ATF # and ask the lady to send another copy. It will cost you $1 and they will send the WHOLE DAMN PACKAGE AGAIN !!! ... gotta love that red tape lol.

Bobby Ricigliano 02-28-2013 1:22 PM

I did the same thing.

Double digit C&R purchases later, it hasn't made any difference.
