Finally, I get to retire from the career that has brought me so many memories.
Long story short...I was supposed to retire in March of this year but a wording flaw in the divorce paperwork from my first wife required me to go back to the ex for a modification. She initially agreed but then changed her mind just days before my retirement date. That required me to go back to court and seek the modification via a magistrate. It was a 50/50 proposition but worth the effort.
Went to court last week and went in front of the judge. In a county that is historically pro woman in divorce matters we WON on every amendment brought forth. The feeling of victory has never been better...well, except for my three OIS's!!! So, I have everything done at the Board of Retirement and awaiting their word on an end date. If the department is lucky they will have me for another 10 working days (three actual weeks) and then a HUGE adios...never having to worry about the stresses related to this job again. To mimic that commercial, "Oh, what a feeling"!!!!!! |
Congratulations! Welcome to the club.

I HATE reading stories like this. With 32 years in... I still have 10 months and 18 days left and the days can't pass fast enough. Congrats on your retirement. The only regrets I've heard from ANYBODY is why they waited so long. Enjoy!

Congratulations on well deserved retirement. I can't describe how enjoyable retirement is. You have to experience it to appreciate it.
|

 |
Congratulations. Now the goal is to live a healthy full life for at least as many years as you put in.:clap::thumbsup:
|
Congratulations!! Thank you for all the years of service, now enjoy your well earned retirement.
25 more years for me. Hope I can last like you and so many others here. |
I read this and it generates a lot of thoughts:
1. Thank you for your service and congratulations on dealing with your ex. 2. Following a long very high earning career I still have no hope of retirement in sight. 3. ...Because my divorce in Florida both wiped me out financially and subjected me to permanent alimony with no end. 4. Should have stayed in....when I got out after 5 years had no understanding of the value of a military retirement - considering 30 years would have been several years ago....different path. So by my definition you are truly rich! Enjoy and live well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

My best buddy who retired last December told me this, "The rest of your life starts when you hang up your tin". I can't wait and I have a long bucket list of things to do and get accomplished before the wife retires in 2014. Then the second part of the rest of my life will start and I'm excited to have a wife who has the same mindset!!! |
Congrats! Will you still be selling guns though?
|
Congrat's Ernie, I know the feeling on both accounts. Thank god no OIS! It's been almost 7 years now and I've never looked back.
|
Congratulations for staying safe and retiring. I am 866 days away from retirement. I will join you soon.
|
Congrats, good sir. Now the key is to milk all the retirement checks for as long as you can because you definitely put enough in it to earn it.
I can retire in about... oh... don't bring up painful stuff... okay? |
Congratulations Sir!
|
Congratulations and thank you from just a happy citizen. You are one of my hero's!
|
Congrats Ernie. Makes me feel a little jealous (lol) I have ten more years left until i am eligible for retirement.
You are getting out at the right time. Not only is it getting more dangerous chasing bad guys but with ever increasing budget cruntches, shrinking retirement benefits, and increased red tape/management BS, it is nice to hear that a good guy made it to retirement. Enjoy retirement and your pension brother! |
Congratulations!

COngrats on your retirement. Hopefully one day I will get to retire as a police officer. Thanks for being in a dangerous but respectful profession.
|
Glad things worked out for you with the retirement board, Congratulations, and best of luck with your firearms business , (possible SSE configurations in future?).
|
Congrats!!!!! Must be an awesome feeling. I hope to follow in your footsteps one day. A salute to sir! Here's to living life on your own terms!!!!!
|
Good for you.
I've been on the job 16 years, 15 more to go. Damn that sucks when I say that!!! |
Welcome to the club, glad you made it!
 |
I salute you Sir! :79: |
Fantastic news!!!
|
Thanks for all the kind words, it means a lot to me. The feeling is one you'd have to experience to know how happy I am!! A friend of mine asked me today about seperation anxiety. My reply, "Will miss the people but not the BS from within or from the outside. Seperation anxiety, hardly...I got a lot of fishin to get done"!!
