Old dude in ACU's at Gunshow
Ok so Saturday I went to the gunshow at ontario, even though its more like a swap meet now with all the useless junk they sell there. Anyways besides the point. I saw a older gentleman and that is being conservative wearing ACU's with E-5 rank, 101st patch airborne and air assault badges on. But the kicker was instead of US Army name tape it said some stuff like SGCA or SCGA....Anyone know what this is? and why the hell was he wearing this at the gun show?

Well people wear stuff like that cause they wanna be cool looking. I'm gonna guess that he's a poser and didn't wanna overdo it so he just had the air assault badge. I'm most likely half the guys age and my uniform is in the back of my closet. |

http://www.socalmilitia.org http://www.modernmilitiamovement.com...-state-militia I saw and talked to them too, check out the above links and judge for yourselves. |
...Curious. I kinda get the idea behind it, but there has the potential for a lot to be lost in execution.

i get it, but its too far for me when you gotta dress up and crap just to go practice shooting and run drills.
cargo pants work just fine, then they have the whole rank thing .. idk |
That L shaped ambush was SWEET! They did it just like the book! haha.... :shifty:

I think I saw these same cats. It was an older white dude and a latino youngster. They were recruiting for their militia.

If this were my ship...
*Eliminate the term "militia"; it's now become a dirty word. Community Watch is just as good. *No cammies in public...ever. Polo shirts and cargo pants are sharper looking in the public eye. If I were a legitimate Army dog (Active, Guard/Reserve, or former) I would take offense to them wearing my uniform especially those with facial hair etc. Otherwise I get where they are coming from but their appearance and approach is on the provocative side. Edited to add: Also in addition to the kinetic stuff (shooting stuff up) I would do some non-kinetic humanitarian ops to keep favor in the public eye (feed the homeless, habitat for humanity, etc.) Otherwise you look like a bunch of dudes in cammies, shooting stuff up and waiting for the takeover. |
I don't get why people catch crap for wearing camo it's a gun show besides it part of our culture. Embrace it you never know maybe his son served.
|
nope i saw the two guys you guys are talking about the younger guy was wearing od jungle boots. i dont think the kid served in any branch except for halo or cod.

rag-tag. too much attention drawing.

But frankly, as soldiers and former soldiers, we see this through a different lens than the average civilian. The uniform means more to us.

Costumes. At least bikers have bikes to go with their costumes.
|
Some of these guys might be prior service. A few had combat patches on, at least I HOPE they are prior service if they're wearing those.

Yeah, the patches kinda rubbed me the wrong way too. If a guy was 82nd Airborne in vietnam or panama, and he throws their patch on his kit while messing around in the desert, then im cool with it. All the Way, paratrooper. But if a 300lb 20yr old who calls MOLLE "mole" gear (yes, I have heard that) is wearing 10th Mountain or 2ID. On his sleeve because it looks cool, then we might have some words. Now those words may be "ya know, my brother was 2ID." "Really? Mine too, that's why i have the patch!" I can understand, but there may need to be some clarification. Hell, I remember the Marines not wanting their terps or corpsmen wearing MARPAT for a while (they have sense relented, and i doubt it was ever enforced) so i'd imagine they'd be upset about civilian militias rocking it.
What's wrong with OD or Khaki carhart? |
What's up with civilians' (those who never served) fascination of wearing cammies in public? I mean if you really like wearing tactical gear and uniforms why not just join the military? To me regardless of your reason if you never served you don't rate to wear a military uniform, you're a wannabe poser if you do.

I love the concept of people teaching other people something they have little to no knowledge about, for a mission that they are in no way qualified for, using a rank structure based on god knows what.
|
Don't care what anyone wears. You'd have a heart attack if you saw what airsoft kids wear!

I saw the same older gentleman in ACUs talking to the guy at the "Mag Magnet" booth. It made me mad seeing that guy their trying to push his worthless product. I wish I still had a "Stop SB249" flyer and slam it right on his booth. I saw him violate CA Assault Weapon laws about a dozen times, with that stupid magnet over the BB.
