Shotgun panic
 

So in January 2014 long guns will need to be registered. So are we going to have a year of panic buying of shotguns and rifles? Slowly but surely our right are being taken away. If we don't find a way to fight this, we will end up like Australia. :facepalm:

You registered every long gun you bought 1911Operator? Do you realize that when you DROS a long gun at a shop, you aren't registering it? Long guns do not require registration in California at this time. Starting in 2014 you will have to register long guns bought in 2014 and later.

Edit: as in, at the moment, CA supposedly does not attach long guns to your name in a system.

I don't think the DROS registers your long gun with serial number and what not. I believe the dealers just put down how many long guns you can take out after the DROS but they don't register it .Just a background check.

serial number stays on the dealer form but is not transmitted during DROS process I believe.
However name and s/n are kept on FFL book for 20 years I think.

Right now, long guns purchased do not stay on record with anyone. From what I understand, there will be a system put in place to keep registration on file with DOJ. http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/...ng-open-carry/

H2H is correct - serial#s are not needed for DROS. These don't go to the state. BUT California does have a form for voluntary registration of any firearm - to protect you from "theft" - they just fail to mention it doesn't protect you from theft on the government's part. ;)

I dunno if anyone else is dong it but Im picking up everything I can before 2014. I refuse to register anything.

Once everyone realizes that this law will go into effect in 2014 there will be a rush to buy all manners of long guns/shotguns. These will be the same people that are looking at the $400 AR lowers wishing they had bought one a month ago.

I predict another panic buy for CA owners end of 2013. :)

I've been calling around and pretty much all my local turners are sold out of mossbergs, mavericks, and remington shotguns....

Idk every time I've mentioned it most people haven't seemed to care. We'll see once crunch time gets here.

are handguns registered in CA? i just looked at my DROS and saw that the handgun i bought from a FFL dealer last year has the serial # the form.

so does that mean my gun is in the database?

Yes dragonboy221, your gun is in the database and linked to your Drivers License or State ID.

i'm still wanting to pick up a Ruger 10/22 Takedown. was next up, but i stumbled upon a lnib Gen 2 (1992) G17 at my lgs and am now making layaway payments on that. i had actually just stopped in to pick up a few boxes of ammo....

My dream gun is a benelli M4! However they are expensive! I'm gonna pick up a maverick 88 from a cal gunner on Monday... Can't wait I have heard great things about the maverick! I havnt been able to find them anywhere recently.

No tinfoil or conspiracy, but you are all smoking if you think that "gubment" isn't already keeping tabs on your long-gun purchases. They can and do keep track where possible - this includes subpoenas of sales records when needed.

Have you bought a handgun in the past years? Then this is no different. Welcome to California...it won't change any time soon.

Unfortunately, these attitudes are the same that drive up gas prices and other commodities.

Why are people so concerned about having registered firearms? Unless you plan on using your firearm illegally you have nothing to worry about. The government is never going to come knocking on your door collecting guns. If anything having my guns registered is a pro in case of theft.

An easier way is to take photos, record the serial number and keep it in a safe place.

I have a friend who is DOJ. According to them, right now, the data on long guns is not retained. Once background is done the data drops off the system and there is not a way to catalogue it. This is what will be changing. DOJ is working on a system to keep all long gun info like they do with handguns.

Honestly, this doesn't bother me (to date). I am a law abiding citizen who happens to shoot a few different types of guns for recreation. Someday if they ever did a rifle roundup, I would prefer they didn't know, but what are you going to do except buy now for future worries. That really was my question. I wondered if this new law might cause another panic buy of shotguns and shells in the near future.

A very very good idea. Right now I have paper copies and have emailed them to myself.

The gun buying masses are stupid (look around at what's going on, proof is right there in front of you). At this point they will panic when they see their own shadow.

Everyone needs to have some common sense and be a little smarter about when to buy and when not to buy.

They may not be able to take your gun right now, but they can make sure your ability to feed it is seriously curtailed.
The Gubmint is steadily purchasing all the ammo it can from the free market. Old news there, but it goes lockstep with causing law abiding gun owners a burdensome chore of providing for their own means.

I'd suggest you get hot on your ammo stockpile.
