SoCal .50 owners (for new shooters)

For those of you that have recently bought .50 BMG or .50 DTC rifles or uppers and want to shoot, we'll be at Angeles Range on the 18th for our monthly shoot. If anyone else wants to come out and shoot you are more then welcome to join us.

Heck you might even get to shoot a .50 and get hooked, then the disease will infect you and you'll be looking to buy one.:D We show up early and set up at the far end of the rifle range as that's where they like us. Talk to me and I'll let you how to shoot there cheaper.

If your looking for help on setting up you new toy or looking for pointers just ask, we have a great collection of guys that know their stuff. Maybe I can finally get CSA to come out and join us.

CSACANNONEER 11-04-2007 10:50 AM

I'll have to hit the press. Also, my AR50 stock is out being worked on so, I'll probably have to settle with bringing my ALS, a 1919 and a couple of small toys. I think my wife will be out of town so, I'll really try to make it.

50 Shooter 11-04-2007 11:18 AM

What mods are you doing to the stock?

50 Shooter 11-13-2007 12:04 PM

BTT

CSACANNONEER 11-13-2007 3:42 PM

Brass is in the tumbler! Wife is leaving Thursday! I'll be preping and loading Friday and Saturday! I hope to be there before 8am.

50 Shooter 11-17-2007 7:13 PM

See you guys in the morning.

50 Shooter 12-06-2007 8:13 AM

This month's shoot is on the 16th.

CSACANNONEER 12-06-2007 3:14 PM

I'll see if my wife will let me come. If she does, I'll try to bring my stepson! BTW, did you get your VHP yet? He's in 3 photos from the Reno match. The one by himself (with the BIG 50 grin) has been my screensaver since the photographer sent me a CD of all the pictures he took that weekend!

50 Shooter 12-12-2007 6:57 AM

Bump, looks like we'll be making some noise with the XCR crowd.;)

I'm planning to come and will try to talk my stepson into joining me. Did you see the pics of him in the latest VHP? He was 13 then and he loaded the ammo for both of us to shoot the match with! I can't wait to see how he'll do with a better front rest.

50 Shooter 12-12-2007 7:35 AM

What page?

Sydwaiz 12-12-2007 7:39 AM

I'm going to try and be there. Speaking of VHP, I got my name in there! I helped out Keith with the article on the Bosnian ammo. :D

It's gonna be fricken cold out there so bring a jacket if you aint man enough!

50 Shooter 12-12-2007 7:55 AM

I still have links for you and a calendar for Kelly.

Drag Don's butt out there also.;)

Sydwaiz 12-12-2007 8:10 AM

Ha, wish me luck on that one!

MustangO4 12-12-2007 9:13 AM

I'll be there with my BOHICA.

ar15barrels 12-12-2007 10:01 PM

What targets do you guys shoot the 50's at?
I had heard they don't let you bang the steel at Angeles with a 50.

mothergreen 12-12-2007 10:12 PM

there is steel out to 700 yards at angeles. the one and only time I ever shot a .50 bmg was a guy at angeles who let me. I fired at the steel at 700. you wouldn't even know it was there if you didn't look thru the high power glass. so its the 16th not the 18th? thats good cuz I'm goin to check out the xcr.

They only allow the .50s to shoot at the RED painted targets.
Targets are set up at 400, 500, and 600 yards. The 700yd targets were removed due to fire danger.

Prc329 12-12-2007 11:00 PM

The red targets are supposed to be "armor plated".

Call in sick! It sounds like there's going to be a good turnout of 50s and other toys.

50 shooter,

My stepson is in 3 pictures on pgs 61&62. In the "match winners" picture, he's in a coonskin cap, next to me on the left, in the front row. In the next picture, he's the second shooter on the line next to Sheri R. On page 62, he's the one with the 50 grin. Well, he's the one that is not Lee R. I'll try to remember to bring my copy 'cause, I'm so proud of him that I can't stop bragging!

Sydwaiz 12-13-2007 5:57 AM

Make sure your ammo is NON magnetic. They will check.

Sydwaiz 12-15-2007 7:21 PM

Who is going to have a 50 caliber bore brush and a long cleaning rod I can use?
I might like to do a few shoot/clean cycles on my Viper.

I'm bringing enough cleaning supplies. I'm not bringing my aquios ammonia mix though. I'll be wearing a FCSA jacket!

MustangO4 12-15-2007 9:05 PM

I'll be there in a tan landcruiser. See you there.-John

ar15barrels 12-15-2007 10:27 PM

Ok, I'll most likely be there a bit after 9am.
Hold me a bench next to CSACANNONEER.
I just loaded up 5 rounds of M33 ball ammo to start barrel break-in and maybe start zeroing...

50 Shooter 12-16-2007 2:37 PM

Well I was there, sans toys but at least I made a showing. Looked like a pretty good turn out, hope you guys had a good time.

scrat 12-16-2007 5:11 PM

Wow i had a great time. Good to see you all. Man that range was totally packed. from one end to the other.

CSACANNONEER 12-16-2007 5:18 PM

scrat,

It was nice to meet you and your boys. Unfortunately, you were just far enough away from me that I never got down to look at your inline .50. Also, you guys should have come over and shot my 50 and my 1919! Next time, don't hesitate to come over and ask to shoot any of my toys.

Black Majik 12-16-2007 6:46 PM

Darn, I got there a little too late.

I brought my little sister so a our group was teaching her the fundamentals of shooting.

Ben,
Thanks for dropping off that S&W 500 to mike and ken. I got the 50 yard steel ram pretty good a few times with that gun, and I thought the dang thing was gonna fall off it was shaking so much. Wished I coulda stopped by to say hi, but had to tend to my little sister.

I'll see you guys next time!

elroy 12-16-2007 6:48 PM

BOOOMM ,, damn those things are BIG ! especially the one on the tripod on the ground with the thumb buttons , i went but not for the 50'S , i had 4 virgin barrels to break in ,, and one , an ar-.22 had a few issues that were frustrating me , i heard randall was there so i went over to the 50 side to ask for some advice ,, he spent several minutes examining it and showed me what it needs , probably saving me hours of headaches and bent bullets , and i usually do pretty good on my own with these things ,, BIG THANKS !!! if your gun is having issues , this is the guy i would gladly pay if i needed gunsmithing service beyond my skills !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MustangO4 12-16-2007 6:57 PM

Was a good time. Worth the drive up from San Diego. Thanks for the ammo Ben.

scrat 12-16-2007 7:33 PM

Let me tell you that inline 50 was a blast. My older son and i were shooting it pretty much non stop. It was doing very good too. I basicly wanted to try out a few different combinations. I had 4 different types of bullets and two different types of powders. So i had my hands full too. it was a lot of trial and error. trying to find the right combination. But we had a really good time. We blew off around 300 rounds of 22. 100 rounds of 30-30 and about 70 rounds of 50 cal.

Elroy i think you were sitting to the right of me. I had two boys with me. we would trade off between the 30-30 and the marlin 700. Yep saw you looking at the clips. Too bad you cant find them any more. I have 3 of those 15 round mags. I always keep a copy of a reciept with me too. Never know if someone is going to say something. Those magazines were all bought in the late 80's. Same with the rifle. That rifle has well over 10k rounds through it. I had to tear it apart when i got home. Now adays when it gets a little too dirty it starts to stick a bit and jams. All in all i can take that apart to the nuts and bolts in about 2 minutes. That ar22 looked pretty good. Where did you get that thing

Black Majik 12-16-2007 7:41 PM

Anyone of you guys bring out the Steyr AUG? I saw a guy letting his kid shoot his OD AUG with det. mags.

Pretty damn cool.

elroy 12-16-2007 8:29 PM

yep , thats me , i have a marlin 60 so no mag 4 me , tube fed ,,, ive had it for about 20 yrs , i shot it a bit at first , then the ar 22 ,, its a bushmaster carbon 15 - 22 upper , i got it used/new here from a member , i think he had probs with his first , sent it back , then sold what they sent him , as far as i can tell it was new , you can find them on the web but listed as out of stock , BM may have discontinued this ??? at first it hardly worked , but with some lovin and trying different rounds i got it to feed several mags ,, had trouble gettin on the paper though , half the problem was the cheap red dot ,, to adjust it , i learned that while up means up , right means left ,, very tricky those chinese ,,, then i switched to my new armalite upper i got on the thanksgiving sale for 359$ ,, first it fed 60 rds of wally world's finest rem. 223 with no trouble , then to the pmc brass from turners sale ,, both were 7.50 for 20 ,,, had 3 minor ftfeeds but no bent bullets or anything terrible in 100 rds ,, and reasonably good accuracy too ,,, couldn,t really ask for more ,, then shot a 1934 remington model 33 a few rounds as i'd never fired it b4 ,, gave me no probs , as a bolt action should ,, then to the pistol side to try my brand new beretta neos .22 , got at turners for 199$ , the deal of the month , it ran 100% on 6 different types/brands of ammo , then on to the old colt 1911 govt.80 mk IV stainless , its allways 100% ,,, and on top of all that goodness , i got a fellow calgunner to carpool my butt out there ,, he had some nice toys too ,,, thanks petrole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
