I personally have no use whatsoever for fake silencers, fake drum magazines, or .22 rifles disguised as heavy machine guns. People in free states laugh at this California nonsense.

With that said, if it is your thing have at it!

+1 i felt like that when i still lived in cali.

i like them when they are on rifles to meet OAL, like on an MP5 or UMP they are on their to make it meet OAl and to cover over that stupid thin looking barrel. Like on my ar i wouldn't put one on mine.

As a barrel shroud, when you can't or don't want to go the SBR route.

If you hate fake can? What is your take on 10/20 or 10/30 mags?

They're the same as fake cans. They are pointless. All they do is draw unnecessary attention. My firearms are for function.

Boy was my head in the wrong place looking at the title of this thread, and after voting I saw I wasn't the only one....:D That being said, fake = phony, all show no go, so to speak.....not cool in any way, shape, or form.

SR-71 BLACKBIRD 11-24-2012 10:40 AM

I like the fake can that is on my AR-22. I'm still waiting for someone at the range to think I'm shooting a silenced higher caliber and try calling me out on it :44:

I like my Spikes. Ya, basically worthless ,but i just like the fat barrel look.
Nothing permanent so no biggy. It does add some extra weight though much heaver then my light weight build.

Parts on a firearm should add to the function or reliability of the firearm
So for me, I say no thanks to:
Heat shields on shotguns
Fake cans
Optics that are not clear
Optics that will not hold a zero
Coloring in lettering
Bayonets on pistols
Lasers with a smiley face filter
Lasers (except IR)
Shot gun slings that hold shells
Muzzle brakes on .22 LR

Most shooters fall into 2 categories-

A)The guy who says my gun does not shoot accurately, can you try shooting it for me

B) the guy who is handed the gun and shoots a nice group

they look cool. if you like it, use it. who cares.

for me i dont want my 16" barrel any longer than it has to be. with the slip over fake can, i get 16" and no more, and it tucks into my free float rail. yes i could have bought a 14.5" barrel and pinned the flash hider on, but i didnt go that route. oh well.

It's on there now, but I get into a mood at times where I like it better without...

TZL 11-26-2012 2:26 PM

They have their place, especially in stupid CA, esp on guns meant to be SBRs

Mp5s, P90s, Kriss etc

My GSG-5 looks much better with the fake can

Also my MP5 9mm 16"bbl looks much better with a fake can, they both look downright stupid with the long CA legal barrels....

I've played with too many real ones to have any appreciation for the fake ones.

BOTH kinds of cans. :p

DROS1999 12-12-2012 10:25 PM

like them, cause i got them.
they are about your taste in appearance not performance.
you want your weapon to look as cool as CAN be, dont lie.

MustangSteveGT 12-12-2012 10:42 PM

Thought it looked cool until I shot one. Gained appreciation for the standard A2 muzzle break. It only added to muzzle rise and weighed too much for a hollow tube welded to the barrel. Along with none of the actual benefits of a suppressor. If it didn't negatively effect the actual function of the weapon then I might be open to considering it if it didn't detract from the function of the weapon.

triggs75 12-13-2012 9:40 AM

Have one on my .22 but wouldn't put one on any other rifle.

MikeR 12-16-2012 3:45 PM

Had on on an AK for OAL reasons but i hated it and removed it, to heavy.

Put one on my MP5 and it makes the gun look a lot better, doesn't get hot and adds very little weight. Its actually a shroud anyway so whatever. If that makes me gay, well ill just ASSume you forgot to take your meds or didn't get your nap today.
