CALNRA: Upcoming Bills Before Committee (7/10) - CALL NOW
1:30 PM, 7/10/2007 - PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY

The following bills will be appearing before committee as early as tomorrow. NRA requests you contact as many members of the respective committees as possible using the tools provided at the individual links below:

AB 1634 - MANDATORY SPAY/NEUTER (Levine)
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2007&summary=ab1634
AB 1634 will appear before the Senate Local Government Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, July 11, 2007. Recently, the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) reversed their support of the bill and now opposes AB 1634. In its current form, AB 1634 proposes to seriously restrict the property rights of responsible hunting dog breeders and owners while imposing untold and unjust punitive costs upon their activities. If adopted, the provisions of AB 1634 would have a profound negative economic impact on both the state and local economies in California. Please contact the committee members and urge a NO vote on AB 1634.

AB 1471 - MICROSTAMPING (Feuer)
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2007&summary=ab1471
AB 1471 will appear before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, July 16, 2007. This bill would, commencing January 1, 2010, expand the definition of unsafe handgun to include semiautomatic pistols that are not designed and equipped with a microscopic array of characters that identify the make, model, and serial number of the pistol, etched into the interior surface or internal working parts of the pistol, and that are transferred by imprinting on each cartridge case when the firearm is fired.

AB 334 - MANDATORY LOSS/THEFT REPORTING (Levine)
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2007&summary=ab334
AB 334 will appear before the Senate Appropriations Committee, likely date is Monday, July 16, 2007. Without AB 334, when a gun is lost/stolen, the gun owner and law enforcement are eager to work together to recover the firearm. If AB 334 becomes law, the same gun owner will contact an attorney because they will be subject to possible prosecution for violating Mandatory Reporting Requirements. This bill places well-intentioned, law-abiding gun owners and law enforcement in an adversarial position and is therefore bad public policy. One of the most troublesome aspects of AB 334 is that it attempts to bypass state preemption of local regulation of firearms and related issues.
