Here is the the next build, a Polish kit on a DCI receiver which will become a permentaly fixed single shot. The gas port is sealed shut with high temp. silver solder. U.S. parts include: receiver, FCG, brake, stock, floorplate, follower

here is the insideof the gas block after filling with silver solder, I also had to shorten
the gas piston becasue of the solder

http://www.gunco.net/gallery/data/50...m/IMG_0823.jpg

if you notice the hand guards it started life as a underfolder
http://www.gunco.net/gallery/data/50...m/IMG_0822.jpg

it is currently a screw build with a broken tap in the rear block until I can
get someone to drill or mill it out. Then probably going to rivit it together

http://www.gunco.net/gallery/data/50...m/IMG_0810.jpg

the wood was soaked in acetone to clean it and finished with a clear poly, the
metal was just roughed up with steelwool and degreesed, and sprayed with Alumni-
hyde II in a semi-gloss and then #000 steelwool

sintax 04-29-2006 9:05 AM

wow that russian looks really amazing. Excellent job on that wood restore.

Snuffalofogus 04-29-2006 1:13 PM

Hungarian SA85 built on a Global 1.6mm receiver (special thanks to wayoutwest for helping me with my first build.)

After paint

buttstock looks discolored due to the painters tape being left on there for 2 days.

Wood looks normal now.

EBWhite 04-29-2006 1:47 PM

way out west, where did you get that russian parts kit at :-)

And that polish side folder stock?? :-)

Snuffalofogus 05-03-2006 7:49 PM

My Russian kit came from JoeKen about 2 years ago, it was 1 of 2 I had. They pop up on gunbroker and the classifieds on ak-47.net now and again but will run about $350+

This stock isnt a folder, it is a FSE fixed krink style, I opted not to use the underfolder since I would have to fix it anyways and my receiver wasnt drilled for a underfolder.

PTR-91 receiver in the white from Ohio Rapid Fire, right? I was kinda thinking about one of those myself... then decided I'd wait up on those receivers since PTR-91's will need an add-on motion to make them a banned series, and I may as well wait up and buy a full rifle.

Yup, I just picked it up yesterday after my 10 day wait. I'm cheap and I like DIY projects and this gives me another reason to practice my TIG welding.:D

What's the deal with you PTR-91 guys anyhow :) ?

The welding part is the ONLY thing keeping me from building my own. Now that you have one, is there ANY built in indexing reference point type of thing in the receiver? Or is it just bored out and you have to personally time the barrel? If there is a way to index the barrel, I will do it myself; if not, I will buy a full rifle in the same manner that Grammaton (always wanted to ask, an Equilibrium fan?) described.

Everyone probably thought you guys were D&D dorks. :D

But then again what do they know. This of course brings up the question of whether or not we can get our ARs and AKs enchanted to +5 status...

You didn't know? The real reason we can't have pistol grips, is that it adds a 10% chance of vorpal shots whenever you roll a critical hit.

WHERE'S THE MOUNTAIN DEW?!?

...actually, the same former co-worker and my roomie and I were sitting in Fuddruckers earlier today, noting that someone needs to do a version of the Dead Alewives' D&D gamer skit (some folks know it as Summoner Geeks) as gun nuts.

...

DM: "Ok, you forgot to set your claymore, and now there are trolls, ok?"
Cheeto Fiend: "I've got Troll-slaying incendiary rounds in my M4! They've got a +9 against trolls!"
DM: "You're NOT THERE!"

I got my kit yesterday from dph and overall its a good kit but there are some small things that are bugging me. The TG is bent slightly and there are some dings. The tripple tree looks like a kid chiseled it off. Should I try to get and exchange or should I just fix it. The TG doesn't look too bad and I was thinking of getting the tripple tree without the grenade launcher.

You can get one(the triple frame) from numrich gun parts and they are very cheap. You can take off the grenade launcher by grinding it off if you wish or ask the builder to do it. It looks like you got a CETME kit?

morepoop4u 05-11-2006 6:43 PM

Yah its a cetme. When I mod the trigger pack to semi do I still need to flick the selector up to fire (T)(S)(F)?

dwtt 05-11-2006 8:10 PM

on my trigger group, it's up for safe and down for fire. But then, I have a semiauto trigger group.

Depends on your trigger housing. If you get one from JLD...most likely you will flick the selector down. It depends on the trigger housing! If you do the mods yourself, it will most likely stay the same.

morepoop4u 05-12-2006 12:32 AM

I have another question about my cetme kit. On the bolt carrier the tube that holds the recoil spring has a groove in it and its all the way to where the the cocking handle mates, is that normal. I'll post pics later. Also do I need to modify my jld receiver to fit my cetme butt stock.

I finally got some free time to work on my romys. It's true about what they say about building an ak, it takes a lot of filing and more filing. I feel like I'm in an assembly line haha. I still have one to go.

ITM MK-99 build

So, heres a few pics of the mk-99 build with a Romy G kit.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/P1010056.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/noserial.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/P1040070.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e346/BLFD1/P1043.jpg

It's an ITM reciever which took quite a bit of "massaging" to get everything to fit. I read somewhere that theres alot of filing when you build one of these...they're right.

I went with a kit that had been demilled, drilled and tapped already as I didnt really have the time to gather all the rivet stuff. The kit came in pretty good shape and the company provides everything needed to complete it minus the receiver, magazine and a few odds and ends. I went with a PG so I fixed the mag with a rather ugly screw that I had in my tool box.

Fitting and marking the receiver went pretty well. It took about two hours to make the templates, center punch the holes and drill out the receiver (I was using a hand drill) there was a little "widening" of two of the holes but all in all it went well.

There was a bit of filing to the front of the receiver that had to be done to get the front trunion to fit right but was pretty straight forward. The rear trunion fit good but I had to file on the stock a little to get the trunion to fit straight.

Once all that was done it was time to build up the FCG, that was easy, and had no issues there but, I did run into the normal bolt wont return problem. So as you can see I had to do a little grinding and polishing of the hammer to get it not to bind on the bottom of the bolt. After allowing myself a couple millimeters play in the hammer I ran into another problem...the disconnector wasn't catching so, back to the filing..... I had to take a little off of the disconnector to get it to catch the hammer when the bolt came back, a few times test fitting and I was good to go.

I have ran the snap caps through it a few dozen times or so and it all appears to work smooth. I'm off to the range on Thursday so I'll add a range report when I'm done.

I do recommend this receiver to people that have some time and the patience to work out the kinks of a build, and the basic tools (files, etc.) and a place to work comfortably and with ample light. As for the kit, I was very happy with how it went together. If anyone is interested in the dealer I got it from drop me a PM
