Mountain House 10 pack - $29.97 @Costco

Costco San Marcos today - saw 10 pack premium meal assortment for $29.97. Did a quick search on Amazon and showed it was $61.99. Tossed one in the cart. There were 20 more boxes on the shelf ;-)

Contains (3) Chicken Teriyaki with Rice, (2) Beef Stew, (3) Beef Stroganoff, (2) Lasagna with Meat Sauce

Great price they sell for around $45-50 at Costco normally

chonrsinway8 10-18-2013 3:21 PM

Haha nice. I actually work at Costco in San Marcos but rarely make it to that area. Guess I'll be shopping tomorrow.

gawker 10-18-2013 3:42 PM

Why is it only 6 year shelf life? i thought most of these ration stuff was supposed to be 10 to 30 years?

Not a bad deal at all, but a 6 year shelf life is not good.

Wondering the same thing. I have a few mountain house buckets in my closet that have a 25 year shelf life printed on the packaging. It's the same entrees I believe. I'll go check...

Steve1968LS2 10-18-2013 4:17 PM

F me.. I was JUST THERE.. dammit.. lol

Anyone wanna pick me up a case? I'm down there at least once a week :)

SKULS 10-18-2013 4:22 PM

These sell individually for $6-$9 at Sports Authority/REI/Walmart. This is a great price.

Will be checking the SSF Costco on my way home. Thanks OP!

pitbull30 10-18-2013 5:09 PM

Good deal. Don't understand the 6 year shelf life though? See below.

http://www.mountainhouse.com/shelf_lif.html

Spyguy 10-18-2013 6:45 PM

Maybe Mountain House is selling off older stock, hence the shorter shelf life?

Spyguy 10-18-2013 6:46 PM

Anyway, I'd eat it well beyond 6 years.

Senko 10-19-2013 10:43 AM

IIRC the bags usually only have 6-7 year shelf life vs the container. I thought they had recently done something to the bags that was going to bump the bag shelf life up to 10 yrs.

I picked up one of those 1-2 yrs ago for $39.99 at Costco. Hope we get some in the bay area.

problemchild 10-19-2013 2:23 PM

Is this every costco?

Are they 1. 2 or 4 person meals?

Spyguy 10-19-2013 11:16 PM

I picked up two boxes today at $29.97 each. The boxes say they have a six year shelf life, but the "Best Used by" date on the boxes is Mar 2019 (5 years, 5 months from now). But as I said earlier, I'd have no problem eating them decades into the future. They may lose a little flavor and nutritional value over a very long time, but they won't go "bad" and they will still provide ample sustenance when consumed.

Each box contains 10 pouches as follows:
(3) Chicken Teriyaki with Rice, 5.01 oz (142g), 548 Total Calories
(2) Beef Stew, 4.30 oz (122g), 523 Total Calories
(3) Beef Stroganoff with Noodles, 4.80 oz (136g), 620 Total Calories
(2) Lasagna with Meat Sauce, 4.80 oz (136g), 604 Total Calories

(Note: The nutritional information on the box differed slightly from that on the individual packages, so the calories posted above were calculated from the information listed on the pouches.)

This is a very good deal considering that Costco was previously selling these at $46.99 per box. I'm sure the fact that these have been sitting on Costco's shelves for the past 7 months are the reason Costco has recently lowered their price.

That's a steal. These are great for camping or anything really. That's easy half off.

LBDamned 10-20-2013 1:02 PM

what section are they normally located?... I'm gonna check my local Costco...

gorillafingaz 10-20-2013 1:08 PM

Only costco San Marcos have them at this price. I just grabbed some and there are only 14 left at the time of this post.

kraycat 10-20-2013 2:15 PM

Waiting for bay area supply

from inside the Jungle

ghostrider 10-21-2013 11:22 AM

Just picked up a box from the Santa Clara/Coleman location, they had about 40 left on the pallet

RobGR 10-21-2013 2:22 PM

None at the Costco in Vista/Oceanside :-/

What was the expiration date on the ones you guys picked up?

Supertac916 10-21-2013 4:28 PM

Roseville has them in stock. Maybe 20 left

Davidwhitewolf 10-21-2013 6:05 PM

About 20 at Livermore Costco, aisle 110 I think towards the back. Expiration 2019.

Davidwhitewolf 10-21-2013 6:06 PM

Actually, it's "best if used by" March 2019, not really an expiry date.

Supertac916 10-21-2013 6:29 PM

I've eaten them around best used date and they're fine. I rotate mine every year, when I go hiking, backpacking, and camping. This is the cheapest I've ever seen them sell for.

kbenson 10-21-2013 7:00 PM

sales tax on these?

k1dude 10-21-2013 7:52 PM

Grabbed a couple. Thanks.
