Where do you keep guns around your house

I was thinking about stashing a few guns in various places around my house for quicker access. Now i have a gun in my nightstand and my wife's nightstand and another gun in a drawer in the garage. I was thinking some place by the front door and maybe in the family room (where I spend most of the time).

So where else do you keep loaded guns for protection and what type of guns and accessories (mags/lights/knives/etc)

Eta: I don't have kids

tnlrat37 03-25-2014 9:20 PM

I can't leave them scattered around due to the kids, they're all locked up but I have them where I can get to them quick

bigdawg86 03-25-2014 9:22 PM

I have two to three around the house... They are all my CCW guns so they move around from house, to hip, to glove box. I don't have a spot for my Remington 1100 yet, but want to have that around.... And I have no kids.

If I hadn't lost all of mine in a tragic boating accident...

I would keep all of mine locked in my safe, except when I'm at home. Then I would keep one (handgun) on my person, and my shotgun nearby....

Whatisthis? 03-25-2014 9:31 PM

I hide it on me. It's the only way to ensure quick access unless literally holding the handgun 100% of the time. By hiding them, you can't ensure possession to only yourself. That way it's either in your possession or in a locked safe.

OTOH, if you want to go all Psych on us, you can be like Lassiter and hide a gun in a bowl of popcorn.

Ronin2 03-25-2014 9:39 PM

What guns? Isn't this the Brady coalition forum???? I'm here to ask mike Mie Bloomburg a question...

omgwtfbbq 03-25-2014 9:43 PM

I keep mine in my safe. Why have one and not use it right? I don't live in a high crime area (anymore) but I still worry that if someone was to break in while I was away. Leaving guns around the house and this happening would be all bad.

But really, I don't like guns, they scare me. ;)

Supertac916 03-25-2014 9:49 PM

I have two kids. I put gun vaults throughout the house, so they aren't easily accessible to kids. Before I leave the house every morning I put the guns in the safe. The only gun that stays out of the safe is my carry. I'll get my guns out of the safe when I get home.

You basically covered where we have them. They're all in combo boxes (we have kids, and tons of young nieces and nephews). The one by the front door is in an inconspicuous spot with a cover over it, near where I put my keys, wallet, etc.. Everyone knows never to put anything on that spot (there have been plenty of lectures when someone did).

I think the garage one is important, as if you come home to something seeming off, you'd want to have something at ready access without going in.

Oh, and all the combo boxes have the security cables on them and/or are bolted down. It won't stop a determined thief, but it will stop a quick smash and grabber.

Where I keep my guns (if I had any) around the house would be my business... :shifty:

However... I will say this, my home protection (if I had any) would be very strategically situated at to be very lethal.

A bad guy would not be so bad right quick if one should enter my home unwanted.

In the tank of the toilet. In the milk carton.

CaliforniaLiberal 03-25-2014 10:03 PM

Remember in Kill Bill the pistol in the box of KaBoom! cereal?

Under the couch cushion, in the kitchen cupboard, in the umbrella stand...

Don't need a gun. My house is set up like home alone.

If your house was burglarized like mine was two weeks ago, you'd now have no guns and your guns would be on the street in the hands of the bad guys.

I have plenty of guns in the safe, but they don't really do me any good if needed. I am not going to lock up and unlock every day.

That is why I would like to know if people hide them somewhere so they are not easily found.

Divernhunter 03-26-2014 10:17 AM

If I had any left after the boat sinking they would be in my safe

ChuckDizzle 03-26-2014 11:43 AM

In my safe. I can be at it and have it open with a Mossberg 500 in my hands in about 30 seconds from anywhere in the house.

If your doors and windows are in such poor condition and quality that you don't feel like you would have 30 seconds to get to your guns then you should sell some guns and buy better doors.

Any gun you hide will always be found. You might think you are clever, but the burglar who robs you while you are at work has seen it all and can't wait to flip them, and the kids you think would never look in there have a knack for curiosity.

There are plenty of decent quality quick access safes that use finger print identification and can be stored easily upon, or inside a night stand or desk. These can be had for the cost of a few boxes of ammo. It is a shame you don't already own one.

spddrcr 03-26-2014 11:50 AM

I had a home invasion years and years ago. At the time I never thought about putting guns anywhere but in my safe when i wasn't using them. I was awake at 3 in the morning when the guy came into the house, I would have had to turn my back to get my gun from the safe. he could have possibly followed me to my room where my wife was sleeping or the room next to it where my kids were.
this was a retaliation deal because i pressed charges against the head of the gang this guy was associated with. if the guy had brought a gun my family and i would have been dead, luckily for me he only had a couple of knives in a messenger style backpack and i took him through the screen door onto the concrete steps out front of my house when his hand went into the bag. he was arrested 25 minutes later and is still incarcerated due to his multiple felonies.

now i carry a gun with me when i am home alone and always have something close to me. wont make the mistake of putting myself or my family in danger again.

Marktallica 03-26-2014 11:52 AM

When I'm home, I keep one by my bed and the other either on me or near me. When I leave they both get locked up. I'd love to get a small camouflage-able outdoor safe to put by my gate in case I ever come home to an intruder, since in-car open carry isn't legal in the PRK.

uh... why would I tell you?

Jimmybacon43 03-26-2014 12:01 PM

Well if I had any guns....

I would keep a handgun on my person in a holster all the time at home.
and a shotgun unlocked in a closet type space while at home.

While not at home both guns would go in the safe. At night the handgun would go on the nightstand and the shotgun would stay nearby.

Too bad I don't have anything other than nerf and airsoft guns.....

I'd forgotten about that one. Maybe his most entertaining vid.

the86d 03-26-2014 12:32 PM

Where "aren't" they...? They are NOT in closets, not where they can be seen while rummaging for valuables, and definitely NOT in the master closet.
;)

Has anyone here been hit with Cameras, and a monitored alarm system (with a secondary backup communication [like neighbor's WiFi], and a smash-proof alarm system)?

I hope no one EVER tests theories of relative-proximity...

Aidenpeacemaker 03-26-2014 12:42 PM

ohh

Ahh what guns??? Who has guns??? Where not allowed to have guns.. only police should have guns.

Or you could just invest in some dowel rods and a few locks.

Just call "time out" and dial 911.

glock7 03-27-2014 9:44 PM

Like Lois Lerner, I will invoke my 5th amendment right. But if you come into my house uninvited in the middle of the night without an invite, I'll be glad to show you...

glock7 03-27-2014 9:46 PM

I keep them at uncle Leland's house, if you must know.

Springfield45 03-27-2014 10:09 PM

They are all over the place, stacked up half way to the ceilings. I have to move them to get to stuff. I can only open the front door half way because ammo boxes are in the way. It is like an episode of "Hoarders" except it is all guns, ammo and gun accessories.

Ninask 03-27-2014 10:25 PM

I hafta wonder about people that ask questions like this, or how many guns do I own, or what do I do (illegally) with guns etc.

MrExel17 03-27-2014 10:28 PM

Only nightstand, have kids running around!
