Forest Fires / Angeles Shooting Range: Mandatory Evacuation - Little Tujunga Canyon

Did not see any other posts about this yet today, but even if there are, did not see any here so best to post it anyway as a PSA. Ironically I was going to head up there this morning for a few hours with a couple of guns I've been working on.

Calling it the "Creek Fire". More irony.

I rarely dive into the Off-Topic section on a gun website, Calguns especially, and this is relevant to people that come here to talk about guns as their primary concerns, instead of farts, bowel movements, bacon, their feelings, and the Kardashians. I never would have seen that post otherwise.

I was packed and ready to head up there this morning with a couple of 1911s and a SIG P210. Stepped out and the only way I knew this was 'afire', was from all the smoke blowing across the valley.

Angeles Shooting Ranges (So Cal) Signifcanly damaged in fire.

I just received word from a friend that Angeles Shooting Range "Burned down" in what is being called the Creek fire. I am unclear as to the specific damage. I will update this post as i come by further and more specific information. If you have any more detailed information please post it up.

**Please post information updates to this thread, it seams to be the main thread on the subject atm.**

This is really unfortunate, I have used the Angeles Shooting Range allot since i got into shooting. I very much enjoyed the place. Hopefully they will get things sorted out and everyone is alright.

Edit 1: There is more information in forum member CALI-gula's thread linked below. "The range is on fire. The office has been destroyed. "

Edit 3: A friend of mine talked to someone at the range. At this point it seams that no one was harmed. The main office where you check in for the rifle and pistol range was destroyed. The More and More Sporting clay buildings located behind the reloading store were destroyed. The Reloading store building is undamaged. The range will be closed for at least a few days, i would expect even longer.

G-Man WC 12-05-2017 2:03 PM

This sucks

Thanatos2203 12-05-2017 2:06 PM

Being a shooting range, a lot of the target areas can burn without causing significant structural damage. If the place is getting burned I am hoping this is more along the lines of what is happening.

If you recall Raahauge's got torched and managed to get up an running relatively quickly after despite it being more of a structural fire around their main office.

Citadelgrad87 12-05-2017 2:08 PM

I was planning on a mid week trip next week.

But, from memory, there isn’t much there to burn. Office, maybe the shade area, but the benches are cement, and the target area is like Death Valley.

Fingers crossed.

FAKk !! Are you serious???

Can someone else chime in.

ASR was pretty awesome!!!

Lead Waster 12-05-2017 2:11 PM

My tin foil hat is on too tight ... I'm wondering if some anti had conventiently started a wildfire nearby ...

holt7153 12-05-2017 2:13 PM

^^^many of the bigger fires in recent memory were started in this area.

Litespeeds 12-05-2017 2:17 PM

That's bad news. I was planning to make a trip down to SoCal and visit ASR and do some shooting too. Hope the damage isn't total devastation.

utc 12-05-2017 2:18 PM

Thank you for the info. This is sad news.

captainsavaho 12-05-2017 2:24 PM

OP, please update as soon as you can.

Thank you

Dang, that's a shame. Hope they can rebuild and people get their Jobs back.

I prefer my private range by a large degree, but the little rimfire gallery at Angeles is a hoot.

I hope everyone is ok first and foremost. Side note, I wonder if Eagle's Nest is ok, I have three ITTS training sessions scheduled in 2018.

I was literally already packed with ammo in the car, just grabbing the guns this morning, when I saw the smoke suddenly come full force my way inside of about 10 minutes, walking the hounds. Came in and checked Calguns for news if it was where I thought it might be.

Used the down-time to go to Walmart and buy ammo instead.

Terrible. That photo likely tells us there isn't much left of the stalls and benches either.

:(

SC1 12-05-2017 4:54 PM

Oh man, bummer. I like going there. The steel targets are a hoot with a 10/22.
Hope everyone is ok.

Do any other ranges have similar steel set ups?

Seems like there was a falling out between ASR and the St. Crispian guy.

Don't know what happened, but seems a bit savage. :(

porcupineballs 12-05-2017 6:25 PM

^ someone probably took his wife there and skeeted in her trap. Hes been bitter ever since.

whutsup40 12-05-2017 6:25 PM

Climate change is real, and I don't care what is responsible for it.

My aunt and uncle and 2 cousins relocated to Santa Ana from Detroit in 1959 and I never heard any horror stories like this when I was a kid.

Just commenting upon the current situation and don't want to get into any political discussions about causes.

Good luck and best wishes to you all.

Thank you for reaching out with concern. It is appreciated!

In the spirit of helping, the following URL is a list of historic fires in the LA area. If you checkout the Bel Air fire, Topanga fire or Laurel Canyon fires, you'll find prior (1950's and 1960's) examples of catastrophic wildland/urban interface fires.
Keep in mind that our population has at least doubled since these fires, and such interfaces have become exponentially more common.

The winds the past two days while being very dry, were the biggest thing making it worse. At least it's not surplus of 100 degree temps. Other than the high winds, the 52 degree temps at night / 75 in the day, should help them get these out faster.

Let's hope, at least. Lots of really good, tough guys up there in them hills right now fighting these flames.

Very sad to see Moore and Moore destroyed. I was shooting there on Saturday. Great range and great family who owns it. I'm hoping they will rebuild quickly.

Pharmboy 12-06-2017 12:00 AM

This sucks, ASR was my go to range. Was planning to go there tomorrow for discounted Wednesday fees. Hope they rebuild quickly.
