Ak builder in Sacto. area
Im looking to meet a good builder to help me out with a Ca legal Ak build. I have been looking up info and pricing parts but i dont want to get in over my head by ordering stuff that is crap or worse yet no Ca. legal.
Maybe I could sit in on a build party in the area. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |
thanks for your quick reply
well at this point im in the early stages of planning so if it does end up being a few months till I get this build going I will be sure to let you know. Im still leaning toward a 5.56 barrel variant but if its easier to build a 7.62 then im all for it. like i said in the first post I dont want to get in over my head. |

so for simplicity I am now leaning toward 7.62 and fixed stock. no I have to think about and researching the following; 1. building from a flat or buy already done receiver (what requires paperwork through a ffl) 2. heat treating (the hole rec. or just the trigger group holes) 3. screws or rivets (i saw a build where they used screws to hold the receiver to tapped holes in the trunions) I assume rivets would be best though so Im 99% sure I will be using rivets. 4. how easy would it be to add ak type scope mount rail deal to the side more reading to do. |

still researching on more options. Is a semi-auto RPK an option? I really like the idea of having a integrated bipod just looks kick ***. |

I should keep it as simple as possible so a RPK may be better for a later build. either way I know I have to check headspace. Im not going to risk my life hoping someone did it correctly in the assembly. If I dont check it the best case scenario is they did it right and its good to go, worst case is they are off and I end up dead after my newly built ak explodes on me. yeah its best to take the time and check the headspace in any case, call it insurance i guess. Im going to see about ordering a receiver. If it seems to be to much trouble i guess I can order a flat. Im really only in the planning and sourcing part of the build but am so excited I couldn't sleep last night. This reminds me of when it took me two weeks to clean and rework an Albanian SKS I once had. So much fun to have a project. Again thanks for you help and input. It is greatly appreciated. |
Sacramento Area Build Group
Hi, I live in O'vale and would be interested in joining a build group in this area. Have you been successful in finding a group to join? thx Rmcb

Nope. People may help out but I don't know about them hosting a build party. It look that the Bay area is far more active when it comes to build parties.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I wouldnt mind getting in on this if it were to happen ?
I will be ordering myself an AK cal legal kit for Christmas. |
hello i know this is an older thread but i do have the 1.5mm bending jig. if you need to use it let me know i need to barrow a spot welder to continue my build
|
thats nice of you. Im still planning my build but just waiting to see what happens with the anti-gun politics. Just on pause for the moment and it doesnt help that Im off to Mexico for my vacation late April either.
Im at the point now that I have done much of the research on the build I just need to order all the stuff. I still havent found parts kits for a reasonable price but on the bright side receivers and flats are now available for $30-$40. My biggest hurdle now is finding a hydraulic press to use for the barrel install and riveting since I wouldnt want to buy one to put in my Apt. |
well you could install the barrel with some copper tubing and hammer still using headspace guages. and you can do a screw build. one person built an ak using tootk picks to hold front trunnion to the receiver it worked. all of the bolt thrust is contained in the trunnion

I have all my parts kit and ready to go.
i would like to get on this as well |
