Found an unused Camillus USMC knife with original care tag

A relative had passed on last year, Korean war vet, going through the garage (dreaming of a once mentioned 1911 that did not appear) I found this. I'm not a huge knife guy but I got a bit excited when I found it. Seems completely unused with original edge, still sharp. Is it WWII issue? Any idea on worth? I'm definitely holding on to this though.

Wow, that's in great condition for its age and due to the stained/aged cardboard instruction included I definitely don't think it's one of the many reproductions that are being made today. Some knife collector might even find that cardboard nice care and instruction sheet to be worth something just by itself without the knife.

Here is a website that I recommend if people who come across World War II military knives or equipment. It helps you identify exactly what model you have because there are usually several that look similar and it gives you what they thought might be its approximate value....

I suggest contacting Camillus and ask them if they can identify when the knife was made. Here is a link to contact them. https://www.camillusknives.com/support/contact-us.html

OK that is badass.

My grandpa is a Korean War vet. If he ever brought home a knife from the army, he would have actually used it until it plain wore out.

That one looks to be in great shape.

I found this info at www.usmilitariaforum.com

"Camillus had their first USMC contract in 1943. The Camillus blade marked USMC would have been made in 1943-1944. In 1944 the change was made moving the markings to the guard. The version with USMC on the guard would have been made in 1944-1945.

The contracts ended at the closing of WWII. Camillus did not have another contract until 1962. Then the markings changed. They no longer marked them to a particular branch of service. The ones used between 1945 and 1962 were WWII leftovers."

-------------

So this one appears to be '44 -'45.
Not sure how he acquired it, either while he was in the Marines
or he got hold of it later. It was in a garage cabinet for God knows how long.
I'm keeping it in the gun safe.

Very cool knife, and you can bet your backside it's collectible. The condition alone is astonishing to me.

As far as worth, really awful looking examples of this knife that are considered to be in "good condition" commonly go for a couple hundred dollars.

What you have is miles above in terms of condition. I would contact an auction house that deals with US Militaria for an estimate.

OP you should post it in the blades section of Gunboards. Much more knowledge over there.

Sweet find OP, thanks for sharing.

Appears to be the Second Version USMC 1219c2 that Camillus produced for WWII. The first version had the marks on the tang. The long sweep of the false edge, lack of black spacers and the thin pommel are quick giveaways. You could also compare the font of the stamp to known versions as well.

Great knife that any WWII collector would crave to have in their collection.

Yeah Im very jealous.

Also not that into knives, but that's a nice find with a real history.

I think I have one of those as well I inherited from my Grand Father. Unfortunately he passed before he could tell me much about it.

Mine has USMC and Mark II on it. Let me see if i can find it and post some pics.

Wow that’s rare to find new condition ones. Seen similar condition fighting knifes go for $500+ Years ago

Religious Shooter 05-20-2018 8:19 AM

From the picture it looks like it has a Scandi grind. Can't detect a V edge from the picture.

DBA 05-20-2018 9:21 AM

Nice piece OP. Yes jealous
