Serpentine
05-02-2008, 2:35 PM
I am a private - by appointment only Internet FFL dealer in San Martin/South San Jose Area. I will be coordinating a Calguns.net group buy on Kimber firearms and accessories. This will be a two week offer only and will end on 5/17/2008. Prices are too low to advertise and are by on request only. You must email with model name and/or item number for the price.

Delivery will be in approximately three weeks and we will meet up locally to do the transfer paperwork. I will need a 20% deposit up front to secure. CA sales tax and $25 DROS fee will apply.

Email inquiries to:

bdredding@gmail.com

Not yet. The Series II model (the same one used by LAPD) will more than likely be submitted for testing.

Once again, prices are below dealer cost. I am not charging you any dealer mark-up, shipping costs, or FFL transfer fees. When you add all that up, this is the best deal one could hope for. Kimber has announced a price increase for June 1st.

Also, after July 1st, California dealers will have the new CA DOJ shipping compliances to deal with and that is bound to raise local transfer fees.

Guys, if you want to pre-pay for some of these guns up front, I don't mind holding them until you have satisfied your "one handgun per 30 days" requirement.

Some of you asked about delivery times. I will place this order this Thursday at 1:00 PM. Kimber will ship what they have in stock over the next few business days. Large orders get some attention, so I expect any backorders will be filled ASAP. I will start to meet up with some of you as early as next Wednesday the 28th to start the paperwork on the local sales. Those that are having me ship to your dealer should expect them at your dealer's premises by the end of next week.

Feel free to email direct or post here if you have any further questions.

It's coming down to the wire now on this group buy. Guys, if you are planning to buy, I suggest you call today and please don't wait until the final hour tomorrow. I've had so many inquiries that things might get a bit jammed up on the phone lines tomorrow. The whole idea is to avoid the June price increase, along with upcoming new shipping compliance issues that start in July (unique shipping numbers for each gun imported into CA, as required by the DOJ).

Thank You for your orders and feel free to email back or call with questions.

Any news on when the DROS process can start for this Group Buy? I know you mentioned today (Wednesday)and tomorrow (Thursday) for stuff that was in stock at Kimber over the phone. I'd like to know and start it as soon as reasonably possible because I have another pistol on order and I'd like to minimize the 1 in 30 day wait for new pistols. Thanks!

I spoke to Barry this afternoon. He is still waiting on reply from Kimber (on filling the order, shipping, etc.,). So, as of today, he has not received the response from his rep, much less the actual inventory. Obviously, he cannot start the DROS process (or shipping to non-locals) until he receives the actual guns. He did stress that, as he posted above, he will post here as soon as he receives an update. Stay Tuned.

bobnfloyd
05-28-2008, 10:04 PM
Wow, I just read my note, I wrote really poorly. What I meant was when did Barry expect the items to come in? I only ask because when Barry and I had talked over the phone (last week), he had said that he expected Kimber to ship in stock items relatively quickly and that it would possibly arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday, which would make it available on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Obviously if he hasn't received it yet, then the DROS process cannot begin until he recieves them. I will be patient, I just was optimistic that it would be today or tomorrow, which it seems is not the case.

I guess I'm lucky, I get my new toy as soon as it comes in. I just ordered the .22 conversion for my Pro Carry II. It will make shooting it a lot less expensive. I would have loved to pick up another Kimber but with two Colts and two Kimbers, I just could not justify another 1911.

"There are no issues with your orders; it has just been an incredibly hot year for Kimber. You should be receiving 3 pistols which includes the Warrior and the 2 Custom II today or first thing Monday. Your pistols will continue to come in, and the majority of your orders should be filled within the next two weeks."

Any idea when the next batch hits town?

Thanks for your patience. More are due to arrive later today and I will be making calls tonight and tomorrow. Still waiting on TLE, TLE/RL's, Ultra Carry Stainless, SIS, .22 conversions.

We can add more models to the order as long as we are still waiting for the complete initial order fulfillment, still at dealer pricing, but now at post - 6/1/2008 price increase.

Guys, I have two Kimber Warriors that are unspoken for. Did you know that these are Series I, and not Series II? They don't have the grip activated safety by special request from SOCOM military units. Email me for pricing as these are below dealer price. bdredding@gmail.com

Big Mac, you are right! I stand corrected. Just contacted my rep about this. There is a "Warrior" and there is a "Warrior II." My dealer price list only shows the Warrior. The Warrior II is a "special make" for the California market only.

What I have is a "Warrior" which is Series I, but may only be sold to a peace officer, or another FFL dealer, due to the fact you pointed out - it's not on the DOJ Roster.

Sorry for the confusion.

Was kinda wondering myself, I noticed today that its been 7 weeks since the order went in. I know Kimber is popular these days and all.... but, umm, 7 weeks? :toetap05:

Thanks for your patience guys. They are all still in the hopper for pre-June 1 price increase. They ship as they are made, direct from the factory. Kimber has nothing in stock. Glock is waaaay backordered. Springfield is way backordered. I think all the manufacturers and distributors are a bit backlogged and screwed up right now due the upcoming elections, and due to the new July 1, CA DOJ shipping rules. If you can't wait any longer, I can understand that. I haven't charged anyone anything unless their gun has arrived on my end. I assure you that I will post here the day anything else arrives. I understand that it is hard to wait for new guns. I can wait for about anything else, but a new gun - I want it NOW!

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the update. I was wondering, any chance you can fill us in on how much of the order has already been processed/shipped? I mean, have they shipped 10 guns out of a hundred and we're still waiting on the bulk of the order, or are we just the last few remaining stragglers of the group buy?

I did that. See post above about what still remains to be shipped. Plus, I spoke with you personally on the phone a few times, and by emails. Nothing more to report at this point. Calling the rep every day will not speed the production line.

Hi Barry,

I think you may have me confused with someone else, we haven't spoken since I put in my order back in May. Looking back through the threads all I see is a reference from two weeks ago about certain models that you're still waiting for, and that some were expected later that day. That doesn't really say anything about how much of the order has already been processed.

Thanks!

Once again, the TLE's, TLE/RL's, Stainless Ultra carry, and night sighted Custom II's are still outstanding. These are all made in cycles at the factory. I will keep you guys posted if there are any new developements.

I understand your concerns. "Simply backlogged" says the Kimber Rep. Not what they said when I placed the group order, but I don't want to start a fight with them over it either. They've been as accommodating as possible. Semi-auto handgun ban fears caused a lot of orders. If anyone wants out, I certainly won't be offended. Otherwise, I will guarantee you will hear from me the day they arrive.

Barry,

I think everyone understands that you're stuck between a rock and a hard place and have no personal control over the information Kimber chooses to send your way.

We are, however, in our 13th week since the order was placed. Getting responses from Kimber about "production cycles" and "Simply Backlogged" are placating please-go-away types of excuses that start ringing hollow after about the first month or two. At some point Kimber has to get off their butt and spit out something beyond "Please hold.....". Obviously, someone at Kimber knows exactly when they're going to cycle back through the various models still outstanding in the order, and therefore have a really good idea when they'll ship, at least within one week or so.

Beyond that, no, I have no interest at this point in stopping my order, I want my 1911. If, however, I thought that my cancellation might send a message to Kimber about how dissatisfied I am with their service, Yes, I might actually cancel. As it stands though if I cancel my order, Barry will simply accept delivery of my 1911 whenever it shows up and sell it at that point. Kimber would get no feedback whatsoever unless I bother contacting them personally.

Frankly, I'd expect Kimber to be bending over backwards to kiss our butts in the hope this doesn't turn us off to future purchases with them. Free magazines or something, coupons for work in their custom shop, upgrades, etc.

Actually, my frustration level is reaching a point where Kimber might be getting a phone call from me. Twelve bloody weeks. :(

FCB66
08-21-2008, 8:06 PM
+1 on that. Canceling the order only hurts me. However, that said, the last time I was at IA in Fremont, the price was only $26 more... and that was post June 1st.

I agree that Kimber should have a good handle on (a) their scheduled production run, and (b) the orders they need to ship that may come before ours. Clearly, there is missing data here.

Spoke with the Kimber rep the other day. He said they were looking into "doing anything they can to ramp up the order."

Had I known it would take this long, I would have stated it clearly up front. I had no idea that "a few weeks" would turn into several months. Thank you all for being so patient. I know it is frustrating. If anyone wants out, please send me a direct email stating so. If it's any consolation, I haven't, and won't charge anyone a penny until the items are delivered.

Thank you,

First off, I have no affiliation to Serpentine, or this group buy. But...

You guys complaining about him simply reiterating what he is told by Kimber, sorry, but in just about any business reselling product, the merchant is at the mercy of the manufacturer/distributor. He is only the middleman, and cannot make the item show up before it is made. You want something special, different, not a big seller, or not currently on the shelf. Prepare to wait.

I worked with my local dealer to purchase something direct from a manufacturer that he is a direct dealer for. We made the order at the end of January 2008. The item finally showed up at the end of August. The order was for a stock set of options off their pull down menus, nothing unusual. We waited, we joked about him selling my order to every Tom, Dick and Harry that walked in then placing another order for the one to sell to me, then selling that one, and ordering another for me. Joking only... Not true at all. ;)

Given the current political environment, and the potential bans on the horizon, please don't think you are the only ones thinking of purchasing while you can. I think the manufacturers are doing what they can to keep up with demand, making what sells best, leaving the models that they only have a few orders for on the back burners. They will get to them.

Good luck Serpentine. Thank you for being a vendor willing to put up with being a middleman. Your efforts are appreciated.

If NO ONE has been charged, what's the problem? Try ordering a Les Baer, etc...YOU will have to wait.

He can't run to the factory and start wrenching on the guns himself. He is updating you and he has not taken a dime of your money or charged (1) credit card.

On the other hand I don't think posting "Status?" occasionally is rude, and my shopping list for the year was "1" 1911 which I've been enjoying for a while now.

You guys complaining about him simply reiterating what he is told by Kimber, sorry, but in just about any business reselling product, the merchant is at the mercy of the manufacturer/distributor.

I think there might be some confusion about to whom this venting is directed. Looking back through the threads I don't see anyone complaining about Barry, his service or what he's doing. All I see are some dissatisfied customers of Kimber and their excessive wait times and their lack of cooperation in providing ANY information on when the order will be filled. I don't think anyone doubts Barry's word, I believe we all agree that its Kimber thats keeping us in the dark.

You want something special, different, not a big seller, or not currently on the shelf. Prepare to wait.

Kimber TLE/RL. Not Special. Not different. Might be a big seller, but how would I know? Kimber doesn't bother telling me how far backordered it is. Not currently on the shelf? Well, yes, obviously. :) As I've mentioned previously, somebody in that factory knows EXACTLY how many of each model has yet to be filled, and when their production line will cycle back to that model.

Given the current political environment, and the potential bans on the horizon, please don't think you are the only ones thinking of purchasing while you can.

Dodging any potential bans hadn't even crossed my mind when I considered this purchase. I had assumed I was simply placing an order for a standard, off the shelf model and Kimber made no effort to tell me that it was backordered at the time the order was submitted, nor at any other time since then. And frankly they've had plenty of time to do so, given that we are now in the, wait, lemme check..... Yes, 15th week since the order was placed, almost to 16 weeks.

I think the manufacturers are doing what they can to keep up with demand, making what sells best, leaving the models that they only have a few orders for on the back burners.

Well, we all have our opinions, but personally I really don't think that THIS is the best effort Kimber can put out, a complete lack of communication with their customers beyond "backordered, will ship sometime in the future".

If NO ONE has been charged, what's the problem? Try ordering a Les Baer, etc...YOU will have to wait.

S'pose so, but we didn't order a Les Baer, we ordered a Kimber. If I call Les Baer and order one of their whizbang models, betcha dollars to donuts they'd tell me that it'll take _______ weeks/months till it arrives. And, being a solid company with quality book-keeping, you'd also expect them to quote you a time delay thats pretty spot on.

No reason to believe these models weren't backordered long before the order was placed, and they knew it. They also knew when the orders could be filled, and what models might have been able to ship sooner. Here's the kind of communications I would have appreciated from Kimber:

"Hey, your TLE/RL will take four months to ship. Do you want to wait for it or cancel your order? We can ship the Stainless in two weeks however, the Royal in three, and the Raptor right now. Would you like to upgrade?"

Instead, its been the same empty excuse from them from two weeks till fifteen weeks, Please hold, eventually we'll do something.

If Kimber neglects to set an expectation for us, we're left to set our own expectation. What is an appropriate wait time for a standard model 1911? Few days? Coupla weeks? Months? Eventually, whoever you are and whatever that expectation, the time will run out and the frustration grows.

Thank you for the clarification... and sorry for misunderstanding. I had gotten the impression that people (not necessarily you) were being impatient and *****ing at/about Barry.

As I've mentioned previously, somebody in that factory knows EXACTLY how many of each model has yet to be filled, and when their production line will cycle back to that model.

Most likely true... I do suspect that if it is a really low seller, they might not get back to it for a while. (at least that's the way I'd schedule runs) Given that, have you tried calling Kimber yourself? You could... BUT don't be surprised if you get an answer that proves to be smoke. OTOH, you might end up hearing that it will be another 5-10 weeks. (consider RRA is back ordered some 20+ weeks for lowers  ) Who knows...

I understand your frustration... Like I said in my initial post, I waited some 28 weeks for an order I placed this year from another well respected manufacturer. Not trying to minimize your situation, just relating fact I've recently experienced. I think the anticipation of January 19, 2009 is having a greater affect on the industry.

S'pose so, but we didn't order a Les Baer, we ordered a Kimber. Again, I understand your frustration... But a dose of reality from another maker seems comparable... Springfield. Both in their 1911 and M1a lines. They have runs of models and eventually get around to them. Evidence? Occasionally you'll see guys searching for Socom16's or a Scout Squad. Again, my experience was to wait 6 months for a Socom16. 6 weeks later The Scout I wanted also came up available... earlier than I wanted/could afford, but I bought it anyway since it had been more than 8 months since they had been available. Sometimes an obscure distributor will have one hiding someplace, but that's usually not the case.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Kimber. There should be a way of getting a reasonable answer to your question. Maybe they shouldn't be offering the variety of models if they can't keep up with them. Maybe they can't get the railed frames for your RL. Who knows...

Again, good luck. I hope you get your gun soon.

Any chance anyone else has one on the shelf? Comparable price?

Doubtful, that was part of the reason we all went in on the group buy, Barry was offering prices better than anyone else. That said, I haven't looked around much either. I recall someone posted a while back in the thread that he found his model at Irvington Arms for about $26 more....

Still comes back to the same frustration, I know some people have already received theirs, so every week I get my hopes up like this will be the week! So if its coming this week, there's no reason to drive all over town looking for another. And the weeks just drift by, and with it goes my enthusiasm for a new firearm.

Given that, have you tried calling Kimber yourself? You could...

yes, fruitless. Same vague answers amounting to nothing. Just finished printing off two letters I'm mailing to Kimber in the morning, expressing my frustrations directly to them.

I understand your frustration... Like I said in my initial post, I waited some 28 weeks for an order I placed this year from another well respected manufacturer.

28 weeks without an update? Geez. Did you ever get an answer from them? Or did it just randomly show up one day?

Seems it should be easy for them to let the purchaser know at the moment of ordering approximatly how much delay will be involved before they ship.

<SNIP>I know some people have already received theirs, <SNIP>

Really? Same model? TLE/RL? Dang, I would be upset.

28 weeks without an update? Geez. Did you ever get an answer from them? Or did it just randomly show up one day?

Yeppers... Just showed up one day. No email saying shipped, no communication at all. The initial line was that they were trying to keep up with orders, and suppliers (to them). The more we called, the longer the projected wait time.

After enough time went by... I developed a new point of view. For me, these are recreation. My life does not depend on them. Because of that I can be patient. It would be seriously different if I depended on them, or if I didn't have other distractions to keep me busy.

FWIW, When I placed the order that took 28 weeks, I also ordered another accessory for the same firearm. Mind you I've had the first part for a few weeks. I'm still waiting for the accessory!!!!! Well... I'll qualify that, the accessory maker has sent two different shipments, BOTH wrong (length, and color) and I am still waiting. The firearm is unusable without it. So it sits... Some $1100 tied up and still not usable. :( Must be time to ride some more.

Yes, Barry is a stand-up guy to work with. I think part of the problem might also be that this order was placed in anticipation of an across-the-board price hike for Kimber products. I imagine many other large orders were probably placed before that deadline that may be contributing to the long wait times.

Serpentine

Thanks for the positive compliments guys. I surely appreciate it.

There have been no TLE/RL's received for anyone on the group order. Kimber is simply backlogged. This is nothing new. I'm finding out that Kimber has a long history of being slow. I've done everything I can possibly do at this point to attempt to expedite the orders. I feel the Kimber rep has done everything he can do short of getting ill-tempered with production managers, which does nobody any good.

I think the wait will be worth it, but for those that want to switch gears, I will offer you a comparable pricing offer on anything in my distributor's entire inventory which includes rifles, pistols, shotguns, conversion kits, etc. (I will extend the offer for Wilson Combat, and Les Baer pistols - quoted privately upon request) in an attempt to somehow compensate you for the frustration this has caused us all.

Here is the entire non-custom selection. There are 2700 firearm offerings here (273 pages). Use the advanced search tab at the top of the page to drill down by specific manufacturer or model. Use 'SW Sports' as the 'search by seller.' Your price will be adjusted, and comparable to the value of the Kimber group buy:

http://guncanyon.com/searchresults.php?searchtext=&fromdate=&adid=&u=SW+Sports&dealer=&type=&city=&state=&minprice=&maxprice=&zipCode=&miles=&Submit=Search

Please email me direct for availability and pricing. All Items were in stock at the stated listing date.

Those of you that have been waiting very patiently, THANK YOU!

We've logged them all in. We'll be charging them to your accounts this evening and tomorrow. Please give us a call to do the DROS and complete the transfer.

Despite the long wait, this went well overall. We are going to do this again. ALL Kimber Firearms at dealer pricing, including long guns. No pre-payment required. On your honor. You don't pay until your gun arrives!

View the models here, but please keep in mind the Calguns group price is considerably lower than what you see on the ads: http://guncanyon.com/searchresults.php?searchtext=kimber

Please call or email us direct for group buy pricing: bdredding@gmail.com

Note: There will be a wait. This last one took from 2-18 weeks total, depending on the model and production scheduling, and that was a "large priority order." Well worth the wait, because these are some of the tightest, nicest looking guns I've seen from Kimber.

Thank you guys again for being so patient!

Thanks Barry for the smooth transaction. The waiting part was brutal, but once Kimber finally knocked out a production run Barry made the rest of the process quick and enjoyable.
