CALNRA: NRA Hosts "Virtual Lobby Day" May 6th
4/29/2008 1:45 AM - PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY

04/29/2008 - NRA Hosts "Virtual Lobby Day" May 6th - AB 2062 is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday, May 7th, in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Several groups are coordinating active opposition to the overbearing restrictions of AB 2062. The NRA realizes that most California gun owners cannot take the time off of work and pay the ever-increasing fuel prices required to personally attend a "Lobby-Day" in the State Capitol in Sacramento. Accordingly, NRA is hosting a "Virtual Lobby-Day" on Tuesday, May 6th.

I recently received the following from an individual who is both a participant on Calguns.net and a NRA member:

Mr. Payne,

I understand the NRA is lending its name to a Protest Rally at the Sacramento capitol on May 6th and I think it is a terrible idea. I have worked in the Capitol and have witnessed daily events and can assure you that such events are totally ignored by both the legislators and the staff.

If your event cannot produce tens of thousands of people in support of your cause, it will not be considered a success and the anti gunnies will use it as an example that the NRA cannot mobilize very many supporters. Please, unless you can reasonably expect a huge crowd do not attempt to host such an event with only a few hundred people. We cannot appear to be weak or impotent to the antis.

Most sincerely,

Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxx
(please protect my identity)

My response is as follows:

Mr. Xxxxxxxxxx,

The NRA was approached by another gun group, who said they were organizing a "Capitol Lobby Day" against AB 2062 (the ammo permit and licensing bill) and we were asked if we would support it.

We agreed to support a Lobby Day in opposition to this bill that NRA has long been such an outspoken opponent of. In fact, you can find evidence of NRA's long-standing opposition to AB 2062 at the following locations:
http://www.calnra.com/legs.shtml
http://nramemberscouncils.com/legs.shtml?summary=ab2062&year=2008
http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040108.shtml
http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040808.shtml
and most recently at http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert042908.shtml

NRA has not come out in support of a "Protest Rally" or any other event other than a "Capitol Lobby Day" against AB 2062. I'm sorry that you misunderstood NRA's position on this matter. I will do everything possible to clarify this fact.

As you probably already know, the NRA's California team (consisting of NRA Staff, Board Members, and especially our Volunteers) have developed state-of-the-art legislative contact tools that, when used in a focused and coordinated manner, have proven to be extremely effective in the protection of our Second Amendment freedoms. Using these tools, the NRA Members' Councils have perfected the "Virtual Rally" concept. Anti-gun groups have attempted to duplicate this concept and have failed miserably. It is in that same manner, we are supporting the idea of a "Virtual Lobby Day."

The following is from the latest alert (http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert042908.shtml) distributed via the CALifornia-alERT system (http://e-govmail.com/cgi-bin/subscribe.cgi?to=nramemberscouncils.com) (CAL-ERTs):
SITUATION; AB 2062 is a clear and present danger to all firearms owners in California! The NRA has been actively opposing AB 2062. Refer to the following pages for more information:
http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040108.shtml (http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040108.shtml) & http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040808.shtml (http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040808.shtml) .
AB 2062 is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday, May 7th, in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
Several groups are coordinating active opposition to the overbearing restrictions of AB 2062.
The NRA realizes that most California gun owners cannot take the time off of work and pay the ever-increasing fuel prices required to personally attend a "Lobby-Day" in the State Capitol in Sacramento.
The NRA has made our legislative contact resources available to you, the firearms owner, so that you can participate in our statewide coordinated effort to oppose AB 2062....... no matter where you are located. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Tell the Legislators to stop supporting ill-conceived gun control proposals, such as the AB 2062 ammunition sales restriction scheme, by participating in NRA's Virtual Lobby-Day on Tuesday, May 6th.

We understand your concerns and the points you have made regarding your experience with public demonstrations at the State Capitol are well taken.

More on NRA's Virtual Lobby Day can be found at http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?id=3878

I hope this has helped clarify NRA's position regarding our efforts to coordinate with all of California's firearms owners in opposition to ill-conceived legislation such as AB 2062.

If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me personally at the phone number listed below.

i agree with the info sent to Mr.Payne. we will totally ignored by them. this folks is the reason that the arrogance of the capitol must be changed. i hope that the redistricting is on the ballot we need it bad!

phone calls and faxes e-mails and the like are better than showing up at the capitol.

Although, due to the tremendous costs that this bill would burden the state with, we expect AB 2062 to be placed on the "suspense file," we are asking that you make your phone calls into the Capitol tomorrow as previously requested.

Please refer to http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert042908.shtml for more information.

Thank you in advance.

Paul

Just sent my Assembly Member an email requesting him to oppose the bill!
