Anyone know where to get some good Romy kits? I've looked at JG Sales, and Copes and they are out. Apex has some 1970's kits and 1980's kits for $175 each, matching numbers, non G kits, no cleaning rod.

Anyone know of any others? I've seen some on gunbroker.

www.gunthings.com has some Romy G kits for $229 + $14.95 shipping. The days of the cheap kits are long gone. :(

I picked some up on AK Files Market Place.

I also found some on gunbroker that are a decent price and look to be really nice. He is selling them as singles, 3, 5, 10, or 25 packs.
Here is the single auction.

with all these parts still here. Plenty of flats, it is only a matter of time before manufacturers start to make barrels and eventually other parts for a complete domestic build, just like an AR. Then you will have much nicer and accurate AK but will cost you just what an AR would..

Ithink the barrels are the harder part to make, trunnions and small parts are relatively easy to make, with the right equipment, cost is the issue though:mad:

You're just not going to see those $100 kits anymore. But you can still get kits...

prices for G kits are outrageous. I've left the G build idea for a Saiga conversion or simply saving up for a Henderson Defense.

It will always be nice to build a cheap AK, but I have always that it would be cool to see a Domestic market that isn't run by Arsenal. I look forward to BRAND NEW High Quality AK's in the future!

Parts kits for 'special' rifles are going fast and high. Country of origin has little to do in it except in those cases where the country is responsible for a particular model. Krinks are the ones skyrocketing because everyone knows they have to get them NOW or they won't get them. Complete rifles will come up from time to time, but they will be like Galil's and HK clones before the days of ORF and PTR.

If you ask me, the market is saturated with AK kits. Most people who have bought rifles and kits own several. The market will flux down eventually and I anticipate the rifles will hit a ~$500-600 range for AKMs, $1k+ for special models, and $2k+ for unique models like Bulgarian Krinks. Of course Russian will always demand a premium but that's just the way it is.

And I doubt we will see a shift of tides to domestic AKs. As longs as Saigas are being made and imported, you will just have people doing conversions. It's cheaper, easier, and faster.

ETA: It's funny that this thread caught my eye. I was just thinking of selling off my dozen or so parts kits; I'm not so sure that's a good idea now. Of course there are some kits that HAVE to stay with me, like the Russian milled, Bulgarian AK74, Yugoslavian M95, etc but those mint Romanians in the closet, the matching AMD65 next to my desk, etc wouldn't be a sin to sell; right? :D

Wow. I remember when I bought my kit for $140 and it included the tapco trigger group and magazine. That was a steal looking back on it.

The prices will be affected by current legislation(barrel ban), SCOTUS decision and the election.

We will know by the end of the year how things will go. Ammo is the Achillies heel of AW's. They are no fun if you can't shoot them.

After seeing a bunch of threads about all the kits running out, I broke down and spent my stimulus money on a Copes' Polish Underfold kit and all the goodies it requires. I also figured I'd throw down for a Suomi kit while I was at it, otherwise I'd probably wait to long to get one of those as well.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a Romy G? Is this a Romanian parts kit with the torch/cut up receiver?

NeoWeird

Romy G and Romy refer to Romanian manufactured military (Full auto) Ak rifles that were demilled (receivers cut into multiple pieces) and imported for sale as spare or replacement parts.

Romanian G kits are almost always in better condition and are newer. The G refers to the (if I remember right) "Guardia", or 'home guard'. These are on par with our National Guard. The rifles were sledomly used and when they were used, 90% of the time it was for training.

The normal Romanian kits, which tend to be older as well, are the actual military issued firearms. These rifles were used and abused and saw quite a bit of conflict. These kits are about on par with the well used Yugo rifles in terms of quality and use in the field. I've heard many reports of people getting these rifles with 'post-mortum damage'. These are almost always in worse condition than the G kits, but they have a history and are many times machined better (although the average joe probably wouldn't be able to tell). These comand a small premium only for their 'character' value.
