Hello fellas. I had sold my Sako 308 rifle because I needed the cash, but would like to down the line pick something else up, either 30-06 or 308, probably 30-06

My question is, what is out there that's fairly affordable, reliable, and accurate? A detachable magazine would be a must. I would like something that is not a hunting rifle and would be able to shoot repeatedly without having to wait for it to cool down. Bolt action would be ok though

I guess more of a field weapon and not a hunting rifle?

Thank you!

What is affordable to you?

That term means very different thing to different people.

Affordable in comparison to others in the category..

If 500 is affordable for a decent piece, then 500 it is

If you gotta spend 800 for a decent piece, then 800 it is

Just talking in comparison to the fancier options...

So does "fairly accurate."

Saiga also makes a 30-06. If you're looking for something that gives hunting rifle accuracy and has battle rifle pedigree, then look no further.

For <$500 you'll get a rifle that can shoot hunting acceptable groups and never break down.

Does anyone have the Saiga 100 30-06 yet, I have seen a few online retailers with the 100 .308, but none with the 30-06.

If you get a 30-06 saiga be sure to post pics, i would be interested to see what that version would look like. On that note it would be cool to see a 7.62x54r one.

Pics are on the RAA site, but no one seems to have the 30-06, just the .308. I think it looks pretty cool, like a sleeker AK, only holds 3 rounds though.

FAL! Probably too expensive but I think you can find them for ~$900. Money aside I'd much prefer the right hand of the free world over an AK.

 I agree wholeheartedly with his statement. FWRA is the best choice. I only dabble in AK's cause they (and their ammo) are cheap. The FAL is far superior.

The saiga only holds 3 rounds? That will not do.. is that the 30-06 version or .308?

there is also a version that holds 8

fairly accurate- saiga 308

So your definition of "fairly accurate" is "hits a watermelon at 50yds"?

I think the OP needs to better difine what "fairly accurate" means to HIM.

There are at least 2 kinds of Saiga, the new Saiga 100, which is available in .308 and 30-06 is only advertised to hold 3 rounds. I posted the link.

Pick up a CMP Garand. At $650 they are decently to moderately accurate and quite reliable. Keep in mind that in the firearms industry, you get what you pay for. The M1 garand is a proven platform. If you're wanting bolt rifle I hear great things about savage. The remington 700 is also and AMAZING plaform to build on. You could start with the SPS varmint in .308 and, when funds allow, upgrade to a custom job in an AICS stock with some top end glass. The sps runs about $525

The 308 Saigas consistently come with ~40-60mm @ 100m targets. I'd say that's more than sufficient for hunting out to 200yds.

Garand. No mag to worry about. Only 2 rounds short of anything you can own here new with faster reloads then nearly every mag fed rifle. Very accurate. Very powerful. A kick in the butt to shoot.

NOTHING is cooler then the PING!

I went by the old You get what you pay for, so I paid for a couple M1A's, black stock, 21"

have not shot it yet, but looks like I will be very happy with these choices

It's gotta be the 30-06.

All the .308 that I've seen or read has 8rd mag.
