i'm sure everyone will say reece - it's mid length gas system, the other is carbine length

I'd go with the Reece also. Midlength gas system for lower recoil impulse and a little tad bit more velocity.

Why not RECCE low profile?

it is the Reece low profile version sorry forgot to write that

I am reading that a 16" barrel is the way to go as a compromise between the 14.5" carbine length and the 20" rifle length so I am thinking I might just go with the Reece. This is my first AR build so I am looking for an all around rifle as well. Any other opinions before I place this order?

Hands down the RECCE.

Mid-length gas is far superior. 16" offers more flexibility, too.

Get the 16" for extra muzzle velocity.

I have the 14.5" + perm. Vortex FH (to get to legal 16" length) but am also gonna get the 16" variant.

Most folks here worrying about carbine vs. middy gas systems shouldn't. IMHO, tons of people have been using CAR15-length gas systems without problems; other selection factors might come into play before this.

I got the N4 14.5" and love it. Very small and light rifle.

Are the advantages of the carbine just its size?

I'm slowly saving up for the Recce at many peoples' recommendation, sadly it looks like I'm still at least a month or so away from purchasing it >_<.

Why is 16 inch so much better than 14.5? 14.5 seems like it has done pretty well in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yeah I am wondering the same.

To my knowledge 14.5" only gives up like 100fps and the accuracy difference is negligible.

Hey guys, read through my newbie builder thread.

14.5" requires a permanently attached muzzle device on the barrel to make a total of 16". This limits flexibility - you can never change it.

I think Bill has the right idea: get both. This is the one that's tempting me.

They don't use LaRue rails anymore.. that's an ancient pic.

I think this one has been in stock from before the switch.

While possible, I have a hard time imagining anyone has new LaRue railed Noveskes still in stock. They're not exactly high production, nor have AR parts been selling slow. ;)

I like the gadgetness of the SWS (the QD sling mountes, etc), but the LaRue is such a finely crafted rail...

I ordered one. I'll be happy with either LaRue or SWS rails (really hoping for LaRue). It's in stock, I'll have it in a couple of days.

I would get the Recce. It comes with the mid length gas system, which is a huge plus, and you don't have to have your flash hider pinned to meet the 16inch requirement.
But then again, this is Noveske were talking about. I wouln't worry about the performance of their carbine length gas system.

Larue rails have QD sling mounts at the 3 and 9 o'clock position

One additional point I've found on my MMG builds is that the shorter barrel with break is loud and annoying. This may not be the case or as extreme with flash suppressed models. My lightweight 14.7" with pinned YHM 5M1 break is painful to shoot in comparison to my noveske 16" recce with no muzzle attachment. At some point, I'll sell the 14.7" and replace it with a 16" or greater length barrel.

Yes, I meant the forward mounts (and many of them).

I got the Recce lo pro upper last week & it is a really nice piece. I haven't taken it out yet but I don't think I will disappointed. I believe they are coming with SWS rails mine did.
