I hate when people use the old "it's the only _____ proven model" rationale to sell things for something that no one else has had a chance to compete with.

How many of the guns tested were American made? I think that should be important.

Nice! VERY cool video.

I'll take the HK 416 personally.

does this mean there's an active discussion in the political arena about changing the rifle?

they've been talkin' about this since like 1999 or something.

Oh heck, yes. Ever since the Army Times article here:

Colt's contract runs out in Apr 2009 so we'll have to see what happens after that.

Even though I'm a big M4 fan, I really liked the XM8.

The HK XM8 is the ugliest of the bunch. The SCAR looks awesome.

To change the supply and parts chain and get personnel retrained on new rifles would be a momentous mother ***** especially during the middle of two wars so I can see why the Army would be hesitant to go forward with a new rifle when none of the three really provide a revolutionary change to the basic carbine. They're all evolutionary products.

The XM8 is supposedly a crappy overheating gun IRL as well.

am I the only one who thinks the next combat rifle should be a bullpup?

I'd take the Magpul Masada in 6.8 SPC. :chris:

I tell you what in 60,000 rounds fired the XM-8 only misfired/jammed/malfunctioned 127 times. I don't give a poop what the rifle looks like as long as it is more reliable than the M4. Hell it really could have a live weasel on it and I'd take it.

Damn the SCAR looks freakin cool!!! I like how the guy mentions about the HK416 upper being compatible with an AR lower.

the m-4 was not a bad rifle when i used it it just wasnted the best thing since sliced bread. i think that alot of thease rifle deserve a very good look as for buying american if america makes a rifle that can compete openly with any other rifle in the world. that being said i think primaraly what needs to be looked at is a better round intended to be fired out of a carbine. a bullbup design should be seriously looked at for the obvious advantages it has. i belive that all those rifles are far more reliable than the m-4 as ive had signifigant personal experiance with it. i also belive the the 5.56 rounds lethality is not satisfactory, as for accuracy with the m-4 i am not impressed but it is adequete. i think the masada needs to be put into consideration and some attendtion needs to be put into cartridgeless ammunition the hk g11 looked promising but dissapered in the early 90s cartridgless ammo has a real rifle fireing it right now its been out for over a decade it called the voerre vec 91 a bolt action rifle. metal storm uses caridgeless technology so it is very viable.

I would get a LWRC rifle very similar to hk416 (IMO better than the 416). It uses 80% of the same parts as the AR15/M4/M16.

I really like the SCAR but I want to see it in mud/sand/water then being fired.

I'm surprised that the HK416 is a little cheaper then the M4. What's wrong with the brains of this country. Are they going to stay with the M4 just being we've been using it for a while.

Honestly I was scared like hell that my M16 was gonna jam in Iraq. For those that been there they know how ugly these sandstorms are.

Using the tax simulus plan money to order me an LWRC 6.8 rifle

Why have a guy review the guns who just happens to know nothing about firearms?

LOL I love how the guy says I have never fired an automatic weapon before and he has also never fired an M4.

He's just an Associated Press reporter, not a military guy. Make sure you guys click on each weapon button on that link to see the different videos.

Judging a gun's looks to determine if they think it's better than another is a very bad (sophomoric) mistake.
