Anyone know anything about this barrel? Any experience with it? What kind of blank did this come from? Sent an email and have heard nothing back, but at $200 bones it might be a good starting point. Randall?

No response from a vendor is a good indication to look else where.

I actually just spoke with someone there and they claim it is a Wilson blank. Just wondering about the quality considering the price. There may be only one way to find out, and $200 isnt that much of a stretch. Im hoping Randall will chime in and comment about the possibilities of this barrel.

Wilson blanks arn't bad, but it is what the machinest does with it that will make or break it. Calling Randall........

Sounds a little cheap to me or to good to be true. Also, 26" barrel is pretty heavy and long for an AR-10. Are you planning to bench rest only?

These are supposed to be excellent barrels, but do cost more money:

Wilson is one of the biggest suppliers of stainless blanks to many AR barrel makers like Rock River & DPMS.
I have had a few blackthorne/hesse barrels through my shop to fix gas ports and chambers.
I have not had any of the 308 barrels though.
Someone buy one and send it to me for inspection.
Then I can give an opinion on it.

I found this on the page linked above:
99998 Units in Stock
Nobody has THAT many barrels sitting around in stock, not even Colt/Bushmaster.
I should place an order for 99,998 of them with a bunk credit card just to make them show out-of-stock.

I have the Blackthorne upper with this barrel. The barrel itself is pretty nice, rifling looks good and the chamber is finished nicely. It has a recessed target crown as well. It's a beast of a barrel though, up to the gas block it is 1.25". The last foot or so is .920" in diameter. Not something I'd want to carry around all day for sure, but good for a bench or varmint gun. The one bad thing I noticed on mine is that whatever monkey at Hesse/Blackthorne that assembled my upper had used a hand file to slightly reduce the OD of the barrel where the gas block clamps on. I haven't fired it yet, so no idea how this will affect function.

Looks like a Hesse.

If you want an accurate barrel, save your money for a quality brand. If you just want a plinker, then get a lighter profile barrel.

OK, Ill bite.

I give em a ring on Monday and get one shipped out. I will send it down to you anyways to have it cut down to 24", threaded and have the crown done. You can inspect it and give everyone else an opinion. As for me, I guess I will be committed ;)

OK......the barrel arrived today and the thing is a BEAST. Must weight 5-7 lbs. Bull barrel profile. Looks like these might be take offs as there is a lot of handling marks on the barrel. Nothing terrible but this thing didnt arrive in a sleeve or wrapped in any way. The chamber and rifling look clean, but what do I know. I will wrap this thing up and get it off to AR15barrels.com com for a thourough once over and a little work. Attached a couple of photos.

I have a factory AR-10T takeoff barrel that I will sell you for the $200. Less than 40 rounds through it. I rebarreled the rifle to a different caliber. PM me

In the picture they have, the barrel has a gas block. So they don't come with one?

That's identical to the barrel on the upper I ordered from them a while back. Fortunately mine had almost no handling marks on it, as it was still attached to the upper receiver. I think you are right about them being take-off's. My guess would be that these are the remains of whatever inventory of HAR-25's were left over that wouldn't sell. First they sold off complete uppers, and it appears now they are breaking them down further and selling off the individual parts. This probably explains why your barrel didn't come with a gas block.

I should be able to take mine out this weekend. I'll keep you posted.

The pictures never tell the whole story, but that's some rough machining from what I can see.
Gotta love the roll pin used to index the barrel in the receiver...NOT!

I dont think this barrel is much more than a roughed out blank and probably was never intended to remain in this profile and, eagerly, I am happy to oblige and change the profile completely.

Randall, can a standard AR index pin be used on the AR10?

Yes, but I don't even use standard index pins.
I use a pin that's 1/16" longer and drill a detent into the blank to accept it.
