Lets the flames start, it cost me an insanely low price. It came with 8 mags, sling and a set of ruger rings. Less than 40 rounds fired :D Its sitting in 10 day hold for now but I will get pictures up soon of the laminate/stainless beauty. Cant wait to get her to the range to sight her in and see whats what.

Is it the new model? I have been waiting for a few range reports on the new model to see if they are within 2" @ 100 yds. I like the Mini but cannot figure out why the heck they did not design them to be reasonably accurate.

"Insanely low price," "8 mags"...sounds like the older version.

Nevertheless, it is still a good plinking rifle.
Congrats!

Its the older model ranch rifle, Im waiting to see how it groups. If its so-so, I want to send it away to ASI and have them cut the barrel and add a muzzle brake and give my self a fun little plinker.

Be sure to tell us how it turns out if you do. I was interested in sending out my Mini14 later.

I had ASI do work on my mini. It may sound like heresy to say this, but it can outshoot my OLL's in terms of accuracy. Their gas block does wonders in keeping your brass from getting launched across the Bay.

Congrats on the new Mini. I bought the new model. I have yet to shoot it. Maybe next Monday.
Creampuff, ASI huh. You must have deep pockets. :) ASI is expensive. I would love to send my Mini to them, but man, the price. I'll probably send mine to Gun Doc at Great West Gunsmithing. I hear he does good work. And he's a little cheaper.
Frontman, are you gonna buy an Accu-strut or Har-Bar? I've read that both are inexpensive accuracy improvements. I cant buy one because of the new barrel on the Mini. Darn.

Mini's are good for plinking, I was getting 1/2" groups @ 50 yards with a Leupy Rifleman scope on top of my ranch rifle.

My ASI mini will out shoot my OLL also.

Also try out this guy before you send it to ASI (who costs more and takes longer)

gundoc is a great guy and a wiz with mini's
He's done 2 of mine with drastically better results.

Yeppers, gun doc does some great work. He hooked up my mini 14 and it shoots great. Now only if I could stop shooting wolf. 2-4 inch groups with wolf. Definitly better with real ammo.

There was a member here who does custom work for Mini-14. Forgot him name. Anyone?

http:// Targets 007.jpg (75.2 KB)I have a 197 Ranch rifle that shot 5 inch groups at 50yd out of the box. After a bunch of do it your self mods including making my own barrel strut it is now a solid one inch rifle at 100yd with my hand loads.

I love how people claim only 40 rounds!
When was the last time you shot a rifle or hand gun 40 or less and said hmmm I think will sell it insanely lower then I bought it for and another thing 8 mags, no one owns a weapon and 8 mags for it and only fires 40 rounds, think about it....

either way congrats on the rifle they might not be super accurate but reliable as hell.

My Mini circa 1979, is currently at CRT Guns in Modesto getting whatever magic David feels is necessary. I will do a write-up when it returns home.

I did a lot of mountain camping in the early 1980's and found the flush 5 rounder and no grip really advantageous for attaching to a backpack.

Gundoc is the freakin' man. He made mine simply awesome. Best trigger job.

I have a new model mini (16" barrel, stainless, short synthetic stock). I got it about a year ago for evaluation purposes. It has a forward mounted EOTECH so not really set up for long range. At 100 yards with the EOTECH and good ammo it will keep 5 shots in 2 inches. By the way I have put about 2000 rounds through it, and never cleaned it. No FTF.

I like my Mini unmodified for what I use it for. Plinking and if need be SHTF. It shoots good enough to hit a guy center of mass from pretty far away in a SHTF type situation. I don't regret buying my Mini at all...

Stop listening to anti-ruger and anti-mini14 reviews then. Go buy, borrow or rent one and shoot it. They are accurate, reliable and durable.
