View Full Version : California legal 9mm AR-15 questions

Gentlemen, is their any 9mm AR-15’s that are not listed and legal to own in California ? I looked into the possibility of buying an Olympic Arms K9-GL. I Also heard that Rock River is coming out with their own version of a “Glock” compatible 9mm carbine. Would they be legal to own in California, provided I install a Bullet Button ? I shoot a Glock 19, plus 9mm is just more economical to shoot, thus the interest. Having said that, I still would like to build one instead of buying a completed rifle, just figuring out what I would have to get if I do. Thanks in advance and sorry for the stupid newbie questions.

Check out that link USN Chief gave you. A lot of great information on how to build, use and own your OLL legally.
If / when you decide to go the 9mm AR route, HERE (http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=236)is the page for Rock River's gear. Seems like buying / building a (non-RRA*) OLL and then using one of their upper halves / magwell adaptors would be a good way to go. Before you buy, you may want to search here at CG.net or over at AR15.com to see if anyone can speak to their reliability and function.
I haven't seen or heard anything about them developing a model that uses Glock mags, but I haven't been looking either. The easiest way to answer that question would be to give them a call.
*No funtion issues that I've read about RRA lowers, but I have read here at CG that there can be legality issues (real or perceived) of a RRA complete rifle.

here's the 9mm faq
i'm bumping this because i have a question for calgunners. which mag style would you pick?
i wish i could just pick glock because 10 rounders would be cheap and easy. but it seems oly sucks a bit at providing them and possibly sucks a bit in quality control and i'm also not sure if these lowers will mate up to an rra upper because i don't want to use their upper after read this:
the uzi mags would need to be modded and i don't think anyone would sell them to cali.
so that leaves sten which maybe or maybe not have 10 rounders and are pretty cheap. are there any feed probs with sten mags?
i'm just wondering what this guy that wrote the faq means by most rra uppers require a little tweaking to get things working, but doesn't mention the sten mags.
