Hello all ... good to be back ...

My 7.62 Saiga gets too hot to hold after about 50 rounds with its stock, black foregrip .... Which Saiga accessories manufacturer produces best for the buck non-overheating Saiga foregrip ...

Thank you ..

I've read the Tapco hand guard helps. I need to find me a new one, too. Not entirely sure I like the Tapco.

I use SGM mags, how does the rail hold up? its always looked to me that things would not clamp on to it tight .... it also looks just as tight around the barrel as the stock grip, is it tolerable after 50+ rounds or it actually stays cold/barely warm ?

Tapco looks like it has some space between itself and the barrel and plenty of cavities to ventilate, but it always looks flimsy to me, how is its durability? and how reliable are the mounts on it ?

Thank you Dudes.

get yourself a 74 gas tube and a bolt on lower hg retainer and run the proper black bulgy 74 furniture...i have no problems with heat with mine. has the heat shield in it.

Tbh I run those fugly saiga grips pretty hard on some guns, I don't think they're that much worse than mil spec type hg's, but my mi rail hg with ladder covers stays the coolest... maybe op need gloves

I got it hot enough to burn off the oil , no warping or melting and I couldn't feel the heat through the handguard ?

It's a sturdy part. Everything locks on tight .

If you're gonna spend sgm rail dough, you put yourself in the price ramge of midwest industries, kvar plastic and retainer/gas tube, ultimak, css, strike industries, and some other handguard systems that are a lot sweeter than than the sgm, just in my opinion.

Because aren't the sgm rails like 80-90 bucks? Spend10- 20 bucks more. The trax1 key mod rail is like 80 bux and will dissipate heat and weighs 3.6 oz.... I want to try one. You could even get yourself a Midwest industries specific hg for cowitnessing mounting options down the road.. 2 birds with one stone.. high end hand guard and mount for like 120 bux, you can't beat that.

Depends on what you are looking for in a hand guard .
I liked the length of the factory part, I don't like the short typical ak guards.
I like the the fit the sgm has where it transitions to the receiver , almost monolithic feel.
I'd never mount anything to an ak gas tube.
I like that it doesn't use clamps or other mounting gimmicks .
I like that it isn't fully slotted.
For me, it met all my wants. YMMV.

Yeah whatever floats ur boat I'm sure it's plenty functional, I haven't found that clamping hg's to the barrel affects accuracy. I like the feel of the stock hg, it's just ugly lol.

Thank you guys !!!

SocomM4, how tight does it sit? i mean is it wobbly enough to make your laser useless ? Did you do any mods in terms of how you've secured it on the reciever/barrel ???

Why you would never put anything on the gas tube?

Click Boom,
I think its going to come down between SGM and Tapco, all others mentioned by you look like bulky, i am not sure I am down for that yet .... same question for you on how secure and tight it sits ?

All the ones I've mentioned are considerably more solid than tapco/sgm because they involve metal. Which ones look too bulky?

Well I like how SGM blends into the silhouette of the rifle, and does not take up real estate on you torso during the carry ................

SocomM4 what do you think of the SGM quad rail. Would you mount "over" the gass tube ?

I might do a build with one of those and a combo or bolton block and no sight post and a brake.

The sgm mounts to the rear pin holding the gas block, and the factory guard screw location.
Mine is Rock solid . First trip out I put almost 500 rds through the gun and it was just as solid after.

Mounting stuff to a gas tube is western decadence , I don't like the dot on there , that far away. Scout style isn't my thing. I have a tlr1s on there with no laser. But if I did add a laser ( I wouldnt) I'm sure it would be fine.

Swap the rocket for some ak's.

^ Is that a rocket on top of your Saiga or are you just glad to see me? :D

On a more serious note, I have the MI forend on my AK grip sleeved "PDWski" and after a magazine or two you can feel the heat, about the same as I remember with my .308 Saiga with the stock handguard. The only difference is that to feel the heat with the MI forend, you have to touch the top cover of the forend.

Komrade Kalashnikov mount stuff on gas tube. He put whole opulent carved wooden ornamentation hand rest on top of gas tube. Your naked gas tube is exposed like kapitalist bull and squirrel.

If you're having heat issues with plastic get metal, izhmash plastic is higher quality than sgm or tapco.

Really ? its difficult for me to imagine that izhmash would care about this and try to put something that can compete with DuPont Polymer ... but if you have source that validly compares the two, that would be interesting ...

Low tech/cheap idea:
Spray rattle can "bed liner" on the factory forend and stock. I used it to help with that slippery, shiny, toy plastic feel. I noticed the forend heat up less. Maybe it absorbs or dissipates heat better.

Dont care to argue but put a factory izzy mag next to a sgm mag, the izzy mag is nicer plastic. Izzy is 207 years old, how old is sgm.

But my point wasn't that izzy plastic is better, it sucks too. Point was that sgm handguard is similar enough in cost to good metal handguards to be a weird choice.

I use a Tapco Intrafuse grip with a metal heat shield I fashioned from aluminum duct material. I just made a "U" shaped trough inside the handguard. I am also running a standard vented AK gas tube with the polymer black top handguard on the tube. That helps. I like this set up much more than a "standard" AK set up, as it prevents most AK finger sizzle.

My understanding is that it is just fine, the problem is that you have to get an AK gas tube, and you cant mount anything on it, at least that's how I understand it ...
