So my homie buys a stripped lower and a WW upper. I had already assembled an AR-15 for him, so I said, wth, I'll build this up for you too. So I get finished and go to put the lower and upper together, and the damn takedown holes on the upper are smaller than 9/32. Anyone run in to this problem before, and if so, what was the solution to the fix?

Is the upper receiver pivot pin holes .250 or AR-15?

AR-15 takedown pins will fit thru the the holes, but the lower has takedown pins sized to 9/32.

9/32 is the correct takedown pivot pin size for the .308

The .250 is for the AR-15

It looks like when they drilled the holes for the upper, they may have drilled them for an AR-15.

Roger that. Got it done today. Course now, the upper receiver isn't flush with the lower mag well and the magazines won't go all the way up into the receiver. Not sure if a gunsmith can machine the upper a bit, or if the entire upper is out of spec. Course now that the upper pin holes have been reamed, when I put it on a known good lower, the BCG binds. The upper is pretty much mated to the lower for life, but now the upper is all jacked. What a PIA.

Pictures or drawings of the exact problem would be very helpful.

I really hope you didn't just *wing it* and use a drill/drillbit ?

That would be my guess after his most recent posting.

No, I had a certified gunsmith who works for a well known company in the Sacramento area do it with a reamer. The mag well problem didn't show up until after we got the holes lined up. So now when you insert a magazine into the well, the front of the mag hits the "shelf" caused by the upper not lining up.

I put two different uppers on the lower, and both worked like a charm. I put the WW upper on the two different lowers, and it would not put the BCG into battery on either. It was binding the BCG when pulled to the rear. This leads me to believe that something is no es bueno with the WW upper receiver. Comments are appreciated. I am thinking about just swapping out the upper receiver with a different one...unless someone has a better idear.

I would come to the same conclusion and replace the upper receiver.

Yep, I'm wit-cha.

An upper is *relatively* cheap.
You can spend much more than a new one costs just trying to fix that one.

Oh yea...
WW = windham weaponry ?
Real curious about that part

Not sure what is up with them. I heard they were former Bushmaster employees. After this mess, I'm not sure I would buy anything from them. I e-mailed them on Friday about the out-of-spec. takedown pin holes, and they never got back to me. Randall & Thor, thanks for the comments, I'm ordering a new receiver tonight so I can get his gun up and running.

Windham Weaponry doesn't make anything, this is the difference between a manufacturer and someone who has it manufactured for them to their "specifications". It's called contract and variance work.

Variance work only applies to the lower.
