Fear Uncertainty Doubt

Just thought I'd make a thread for it. I can't believe how many people are unfamiliar with it.

:bofud: :fud:

It was actually a standard part of the training of IBM salesmen (the best salesmen in modern history in any industry, in their day) in the sixties and seventies. For a long time, MIS managers grew to depend on their IBM reps to determine how they would spend their budgets, and when it looked like the MIS guys might consider a competing system because of its better feature set, the IBM guys (who represented most of the company's gear already) would start with the FUD, since often IBM didn't have anything available comparable to the competing gear.

I had the pleasure and honor to have worked alongside Cisco Systems' sales reps in the nineties, when they were the best in the industry, and they often employed the same trick (no coincidence that many of the older ones came from IBM).
