Same ol game with a twist: recommend a 1911 to me that meets the following criteria, in order of importance, please

1. 45acp, 5"
2. Made with quality parts
3. Accurate, competition grade
4. Stainless steel or some other fancy finish
5. Has to be obtainable, whether by sse before the end of the year or on-roster

Optional, but preferred:
Full-length dust cover or tac rail
I'd really prefer an American made gun
A factory compensated model is a plus

Thanks guys :2guns:

STI Tactical 5.0 SS in hard chrome.

Checks every item on your wish list other than "factory compensated" but you won't find that on very many 45acp guns.

Springfield TRP? What's your budget?

Budget is under $5k, as long as I get my money's worth. I've heard good things about Dan Wessons, are there any models with a full-length rail/cover? For Springfields I was looking at the Trophy Match model, seems like a good value, but I heard they are made in Brazil.

Also, I should have specified I want an ambidextrous model, and a non-duty trigger. Preferably with a 4# break.

What shops carry Les Baers?

Under $5K is a yummy budget :)

There were similar threads not too long ago but the budget was under $2K and the overwhelming winner was a Dan Wesson Specialist.

Beyond that budget while staying below $5K, you are well into the semi-custom range, such as Wilson, Nighthawk and Les Baer.

MI Gunslingers gets mentioned a lot here for Wilson, Nighthawk amd Baers, although I have not had a chance to deal with them. Crazy John is also a mainstay recommendation for Baers.

Good luck!

Only $1500 and you get a gun that is on par with $3000+ semi custom 1911s

With that budget, and those requirements, you want a SVI (Infinity Firearms).

The challenge with a SVI and some of the other custom/semi-custom guns is that you have less than 5 months until the end of SSE.

I'd say buy a solid base-gun( I'd recommend a SA Mil-Spec), and then send it out to a custom shop. You won't have to deal with the SSE hassle/timeline, just whatever shop you choose. With the budget you stated, I think you can still come out at around $2000-$3000 for a gun made exactly how YOU want it.

Just my two cents.

Wilson Combat but you would probably have to buy off the shelf from a dealer with stock.

Could call Guncrafters and see what their wait time is. I've heard great things about them but don't have any first hand knowledge.

Somebody already said Infinity, I believe.

Call George Talia and ask him what he has coming in the near future. He always has very nice inventory. He sells fast, so orders a lot of guns from Wilson Combat, Nighthawk Custom, Ed Brown, and Guncrafter Industries. He always has new stock coming in. I just bought two 1911's from him. A Wilson Combat CQB in 45acp, and a Nighthawk Custom GRP in 10mm. Visit his website and look over the inventory. Just google MiGunslingers my friend, and you will have your pistol within a few weeks!!

Update: I just visited his sight. He has a nice stainless Ed Brown Special Forces for $2750. George Talia advertises the price with a credit card fee. I guess most people pay with credit cards. However if you pay in cash you can deduct that credit card fee. He will deduct it anyway, but you can look at the price and know that it will go down a couple hundred or so. Heck you could get that one and another one on the budget you have.

I'd say you want this, Les Baer Monolith H/W in hard chrome:

That is nice but if my budget was 5k, that wouldn't be on my list.

For a $5k budget, I would not go less than Wilson Combat or Guncrafter.

Thanks for all the great recommendations! An SVI would be my first choice, but I dont have over a year to wait :P

I'm looking into the monolith and a couple other manufacturers. If I could find an STI in stock anywhere I'd probably just buy it on the spot

If you want a Monolith, contact Crazy John @ 208-772-2339, he may have one in stock. Another Baer stocking dealer is Jerry Hammon @ 276-782-5771.

Buy a stock Mono and then send it Alchemy Customs for the custom finish and other touches. Rob and the gang there do magnificent work.

For half your budget you can get an absolutely fantastic gun and it's on the roster so you can buy it anytime.

The Les Baer SRP. It's list price is about $2,500 but I'm sure it can be had for less than that. Give Crazy John a call (208-772-2339).

Honestly, you don't need to spend $5,000 or anywhere near it.
