Very interesting.
LMO's Dan Shea has this same info in his MG / Class 3 Bible.

If the 2A test that Heller ends up with makes reference to "common use", this map might help us. It shows that MGs are legally widely available in the US. And hopefully some attorney could make it clear that they saying "we can ban them because they're not in common use" is circular reasoning.

What about starting a campaign to "make California GREEN"... that should get all of the tree huggers on our side. :D Who can argue that "being GREEN" is a bad thing????

I thought that it still is technically legal, just impossible, for a civillan to buy FA weapons in Ca. Can anyone cite PC that says NFA registered FA weapons are illegal in Ca?

Aw man.... missed the A+ on the campus carry map.... open carry is required on the campuses here. Gold-Star OC (unrestricted, state preempted), MG's, restaurant CCW, Shall-issue.... all perfectly legal. Doing OK I guess. :D

You are correct. The map is wrong, granted it would be easier to get a CCW in LA but FA IS legal in CA. IIRC only silencers are illegal here.

I hope that class III's never come to CA. I'd have to buy several and I cannot afford the ammo.

But isn't our MG "ban" similar to the DC pistol "ban" in as much as they don't issue pistol or carry licenses? And thus its a defacto prohibition? Send "Mike" a PM over there if you have particular knowledge in that area. It is a work in progress.:)

I must have seriously missed something. I thought there was Federal law that made possession of a MG illegal. Did I sleep through something?

Umm somewhat yes, But that's ok education is always good before or after the fact.
MG's AKA NFA Weapons are registered to the owner in approx 35 out of the 50 states. While some states have legal hoops a NFA owner must jump through and other states don't have any other barriers but the CLEO sign off.
$200.00 tax in free states per weapon or SBR SBS Suppressor etc.
Check the map.

Google "NFA Weapon" and or "Class 3 Dealer"

"CLEO sign off" is a federal requirement...
BTW, PRK is appropriately shown as red - 'cause no average law-abiding citizen is getting a CADOJ permit for a Class III at this time....

Not totally correct as Class 3 refers to the type of dealer AKA one of the classes of SOT.
We have members that are Class 3 Dealers on CGN.
Or if you meant to say
'cause no average law-abiding citizen is getting a CADOJ permit for a Title II Weapons or NFA Weapons at this time.

NO average non hollywood movie prop-house civilian is likely to get a CA DOJ MG permit.

There is no federal law banning the possession of automatic weapons. There was a law passed in the mid 80's by Reagan that outlawed the manufacture of automatic weapons. So... any FA weapons made before the ban can still be legally bought, sold, and posessed in states that allow it.

Actually this is false.
May 19 1986 FOPA prohibits MG's that are not "Transferable" (already on the NFA Registry) being transferred to an individual. MG's can be manufactured and or imported into the US but they cannot be registered to a individual unless they were registered before May 19 1986.
There are currently 3 types of registered Machine Guns, Pre may samples, Transferable Machine guns, Post May Samples.
The May that these classes of Machine Guns talk about is the May from the date of the Mc Clure - Volkmer FOPA of May 19 1986.
SO it wasn't MG's that were made before FOPA was passed that can be possessed by an individual in a free state its MG's that were Registered before FOPA was passed just to clarify
