I wonder why that article didn't talk about how the poor woman would have been better off to reach for a shotgun than a phone when three bad men came to break into her house.

And that was the middle of the day. West Covina isn't an upscale neighborhood but it's not really a "bad area" (like Compton) either.

If she had enough time to get on the phone to 911, she would have had plenty of time to get her shotgun (if she had had one) and get into a ready position. Then the story would have ended with one or more robbers who would trouble the world no more, a husband who still had his wife, and a wife who was still alive.
