Statistical analysis of causes of death just published on none other than Bloomberg.com.

http://www.bloomberg.com/dataview/2014-04-17/how-americans-die.html

Didn't examine where they're getting their data and how accurate it is... but about 2/3rds through, there's a slide showing "violent deaths" -- and firearms-related death rates are hovering at similar levels over the past 10 years, while suicide is steadily increasing and drug-induced deaths are dramatically increasing.

Quote: "And, how do suicide and drugs compare to other violent deaths across the population? Far greater than firearm related deaths, and on the rise."

In 2010:
Drug induced: 40,393
Suicide: 38,364
Motor vehicle accidents: 35,332
Murder by firearm: 11,078
Accidental death by firearm: 606

How many of that 11,078 were lawful shootings? that may make a huge difference.

Sometimes I wonder that too.

I remember a piece many years' ago about 'youth firearm deaths' and many of the 'youths' were 15, 18, 20 year old's who died in the commission of a crime.

They are known to include police related shootings and shootings in self-defense in the gun murder statistics.

In this article they named chris dorner and the Boston bombers as "victims of gun violence".

Figures lie and liars figure.

Statistics can be used by either side to fit an agenda. I pay no mind to this blather, or anything that comes from Bloomberg for that matter.

Doesn't medical mal practice kill something like 300k+ a year ?

Jeez I seem to remember Heart Disease kills millions yearly. Largely due to being obese.

Somewhere between ~800-2000 IIRC. Depending on statistic used sometimes they include police shootings.
