You gotta be sh*ting me...someone posted "How to Build an AR" on Pirate...that's classic. I guess the hobbies cross over every now and then.

Good luck with the build.

Aren't there only three types of gas blocks.....full front sight, upper height rail and,lo pro for under a hand guard.

bulldog - it would probably be best for you to just order a standard configuration CMMG MidLength upper with a standard front sight base and not worry about any upgraded gas block at this time. Learn the rifle, shoot it with the iron sights, and then think about customizing it later when you better understand how everything works.

In a nutshell, the gas system is what is used to cause the rifle to cycle and reload the next round. Some of the gas that is pushing out the bullet gets routed through a hole in the top of the barrel, goes through the gas block, and is then routed down the gas tube into the upper receiver to cycle the bolt and ready the next round. The gas block is built into the standard front sight, or you can get a gas block with no sight, or a gas block with a rail on top that you can mount a sight on, etc... In the long run, if you are unsure then just get a basic upper and decide to upgrade or customize it later. The standard front sight and plastic handguards are pretty cheap, so you don't really lose that much money if you decide to replace them later.
