You had a picture of a model (prototype?) with the original length barrel shroud, will you be offering a model like that? If so I'm very interested.

I think the extended barrel shroud just looks odd, but that's just me.

Allied Armament

We can offer both configurations, but at this time we only have long shrouds in stock so it may take longer to manufacture the short shroud with extended barrel.

I'm definitely in for a short barrel shroud version, can I still take advantage of the group buy if this is the case?

Allied Armament
03-17-2008, 4:32 PM
Yes will sell extra mags for $20 a piece. The short shroud will be fine for this buy, but just note that it will take an additional 2-3 weeks to produce.

Thanks guys for joining in, only three more to go to get the next level of pricing.

Just in case anyone is on the fence about this, remember that surplus 7.62x25 ammo can be gotten for ~$153 for 1224 rounds shipped (from aim surplus) for a price per round of 12 and half cents. This beats anything other than .22 and reloading, so this gun will quickly begin to pay for itself.

Allied Armament
03-19-2008, 9:15 AM
It is by far some of the cheapest ammunition on the market, and very powerful. The best part is we've tested the guns with just about every type of surplus we could get our hands on and it all works great.

Allied Armament

I'm going to bump the pricing for this group buy to the ten person tier: The price no matter what will be below $830. If we get 10 more people all drop it to $795 and so on.

I too am still waiting for pics. In doing a cursory internet search, I found out that the AA version uses a striker as opposed to an AR15 fire control group as used by WiseLite. Also, AA requires a pin be pushed out for disassembly where the WiseLite version uses the original rear latch. Can anyone, especially AA, comment on the pros and cons of these designs?

Allied Armament
03-20-2008, 8:15 PM
Sorry, I was out of the office all day yesterday. I'll get pics up first thing in the morning. As for the differences between our guns and wiselites here they are.

Allied Armament: Military Gun Supply

Parts Kit: Polish MFG / Polish MFG
Firing System: Striker / Hammer
Barrel: Original Chrome lined Extended / New mfg non lined
Receiver: Two Piece Stamping Seem Welded / One Piece
Latching System: Disabled for Safety / Still operable
Finish: Black/Dark Grey / Dark Blued

Benefits of an Allied gun: Striker fired has been largely reliable, still a lot of buzz about problems with the hammer fired. We have even updated our striker system to the new striker II system that is 30x better than the old system. Our one piece receiver is welded on a jig that is within .002 tolerence so there is warping down the length of the receiver. Our gun runs a chrome lined barrel that will handle the corrosive ammo "quite well," and will probably never need replacement. The phosphate parkerizing is stronger than a bluing and our guns come with a 2 year warranty instead of a single year warranty and come with 2 mags instead of one.

USP4me

Thanks a lot for the explanation. If your product were available with a blued finish, I'd take one with the short shroud

I'm really liking the short shroud. A few more questions:

Is the barrel attached to the muzzle end of the shroud or is it just floating?
What kind of accuracy are you getting?
You mention your barrel is original chromed that's been extended...is it a rifled extention or just a tube?
What's the process to break it open and clean? Tell me more about the "pin".

Thanks! You've just about sold me.

Allied Armament
03-21-2008, 5:23 PM
The barrel is tack welded to the muzzle end of the receiver, just litely.
As for accuracy, i've never shot paper targets but I have shot 75 yards out and easily hit any target i'm aiming at. The extension on the barrel is just a tube. In order to open the gun for cleaning, you punch out the retaining pin in the trunion and the receiver pulls forward, very easy, but does require a punch and small hammer to open.

USP4me
03-21-2008, 5:26 PM
Can they be had without the barrel tack welded? Did originals break down for cleaning the same way yours does? Sorry for all the questions but I'm very intrigued by this rifle.

Allied Armament
03-22-2008, 1:42 PM
The short receivers come from IO and the barrel is tacked. The cleaning of the original was done by pushing the rear receiver latch forward and then lifting the receiver up as it would pivet on the trunion.

darkest2000
03-23-2008, 2:16 AM
What's the difference between the IO receiver and the AA receiver other than the obvious barrel shroud length? I've heard some poor reviews about the IO PPSH41 (SR-41) and now I'm not so sure if I want the short barrel shroud version anymore.

Will you be making a new short barrel shroud receiver in house eventually or is the IO receiver version the only option? I really want a short shroud version but I would prefer something that wasn't built on a IO receiver...

The short receivers come from IO and the barrel is tacked. The cleaning of the original was done by pushing the rear receiver latch forward and then lifting the receiver up as it would pivet on the trunion.

Were taking credit cards on this buy and not charging cc fees, so if you want to use a cc your more than welcome to with no penalties from us. Anyway, the IO SR41 receiver is fine, its straight, it was the operating system that they had problems with. If I can get a chance by tomorrow I will put pictures up of our new striker system. Way better for longevity than our old one, actually so far its proved a 100% reliable.

Yeah that'd be nice. I hope to eventually relocate and do the Fed tax stamp then modify it to go SBR. Not having the barrel tacked/welded would help. (Though I fear these upper receivers/shrouds/barrels were done some time ago and there aren't un-tacked ones around.)

And a huge thanks to James for doing this group buy and being flexible and patient with we, the often fickle, consumers. :hurray:

Exactly as bdgfate said, the short shrouds were done some time ago so they will still be tacked to the shroud but its not major, anyone with a little bit of time can remove the tack. Also we will install the hoods and sling attachments to the IO receivers.

Here is the current list: we need 2 more people to get the pricing down to $795

Mymonkeyman 1
Darkest2000 1 short shroud
Saki302 1 short shroud
FEDUPWBS 1 short shroud
Xtalpimp 1 without the number 4 in the serial number
Snobordr 1 short shroud
Someguy925 1 short shroud
BDGfate 1 short shroud

Also remember that the short shroud guns will take a few weeks extra to be shipped as we have to assemble them still. The long shrouds are ready to go.

I am keeping the group buy open an extra day, as my office is short staffed today as my secretary is out for a funeral.

Thank you everyone,

No but any gun smith who has basic tools can do it. See I know most the rules in California but i'm assuming that IO tacked the barrels for some unknown reason and i'd rather let someone a little more knowledgable about CA laws do the mods.

Mine was shipped out last Wed and I actually brought it home today. It looks very good on fit and finish. The only drawback is the markings on the gun are VERY light and hard to see. I'm not sure how it meets ATF guidelines on stamping depth of the lettering. Also it is marked PPNJ41 on the receiver and not PPSH41. I guess the "NJ" is for Nathan Jones, one of AA builders.

The other noted errors were in the loose leaf manual that uses "PPSH41" on one page and then "PPNJ41" on another page, that and the title page of manual says 7.62x54:confused:

Price was $775 plus $35 shipping when it closed.

I paid $865 by MO (the $830 price plus $35 shipping) and got a check for $55 back just today. No rifle yet, but I'm on the short shroud list.

On the refund, Sheena sent me an email saying it was all taken care of this afternoon, thank you for the fast response.

Now on the stamping, the sn on the trigger guard is very deep and clear (original markings) but the AA stamping is very, very light. I sent two pictures to your allied004 email address for your review. Pictures were taken in direct sun with lots of maginification to pull out the area. Because of this, one is actually able to see the marks better in the pictures sent than one can viewing the rifle directly. Even so, the pictures do show how faint it is in some areas.

No joy on the range report yet. Can you believe that the wife asked to go to the range on Mother's day and declined?:banghead:

Yeah, I know.

Here are a few pics of the gun's breakdown.

Basically a brass drift pin punch or even a wooden dowel will do the job. The hinge pin is a slotted pin pressed inside another pin. So one just pushes out the slotted pin first, then you flip the gun over and push out the outer pin. The rifle will fall apart at this point.

Further disassembly of removing the trigger housing from the stock can be down with a screw driver, but I didn't do it here.

The following links will show what I am talking about and it will
also show the internal striker assembly as well.

Enjoy

In the end, I think it'll be worth it. The reviews sound really encouraging. Who needs a OLL when you got a PPSH.

Fate
06-03-2008, 9:42 AM
I know, I know. It's just hard to keep "up" when it keeps dragging on...and on...and on. That's what happened with the SR-41s. All the buildup...then postponement after postponement until I finally gave up. I'm not giving up this time, but it's not been easy.

Some actual range reports from the group buy guys that have theirs would help immensely.

So would a real schedule for delivery that actually gets met. It's far better to tell a client, it's going to be 10 weeks and deliver on time (or even better, EARLY) than "it'll be 4 weeks" then "we're almost done...next week for sure" then "going to be another week", etc. The first method makes you look like a champ (especially if you deliver before the scheduled delivery date), the second method: well...

Allied Armament
06-22-2008, 6:46 PM
We have the firing pins coming in wednesday, all of the guns are assembled, sans the firing pins, once we have them they are fitted and then test fired. Its one of those issues were you think you have everything available in your shop and your tech goes, we just ran out of firing pins (its like wtf why didn't you tell a couple weeks ago) we don't make them in house as they have to be made on a screw machine, but the PO was sent out immediately and we were given the heads up last week they'll be here wednesday. Sorry for the extended wait but we will get them out as fast. Just note this California group buyers that whoever bought in this group buy will be the only ones in California with PPSH's as we are discontinuing the product, it is extremely time consuming to manufacturer, as every gun has to be hand fitted. It will be an instant classic. I think the only source who may have some left is Atlantic firearms.

I don't have a EBR yet :D. Some people already told me to wrap the thumb around the stock. Lots of critiquing of my style is good! Also, the flinching and blinking too =P. Need to practice some dry firing. Shots were going low, but the group is consistant. I'll post a pic of it later.

I shot about 70 rounds of some production S&B 85gr ammo that day. First 50 rounds shot really good. I had one feeding issue where the round wasn't getting loaded from the magazine into the chamber. I determined that the problem with the round. I didn't have the issue afterwards.

I'm looking into get some Partizan production ammo as well. I probably won't shoot the surplus stuff until Burro gets some rain. The Bulgarian stuff should hopefully work pretty good and I also picked up some romanian as well.

Then for some reason, I was getting light strikes on my last 10 rounds every other shot or so. I need to take apart and take a look when i get the chance.

Also damn brass. As far as I can tell, the ejector launches the brass straight up and deflects off the ceiling onto my head.

Okay heres the run down of what happened in the last "two weeks.." last Monday a negligent discharge took place of a firearm, two employees were sent home for the week, in protest my two ppsh/ak builders protested and went home (feeling a level of unfairness about the situation). Anyway long story short three people got fired, and only one was given the oppurtunity to return, and that is our ppsh builder. He is back at our shop building your guns right now, there is only 15 on order and that is the end of the ppsh's for us. If you haven't paid attention we are selling everything else on gunbroker and liquidating the lineup only keeping parts for repairs. The guns are just too time consuming to build.

I'll inform you when they are close to almost complete (for which they are very close to complete). Sorry for the inconvience

good news for you guys.

Over the weekend, I tried out some production prvi partizan ammo. Cycled great. Had a few light strikes here and there.

Did the light strikes "fail to fire"?

I just called and spoke to Sheena- she said the last batch should be shipping out the end of next week. It's been a while, so some of us will be getting calls before they ship out.

The end is near- looking forward to shooting it :D

-Dave

Well it's the end of "next week"... anyone gotten a call?

(AA PPSh-41 Group Buy: 22 weeks and counting...)

Yeah I got the refund offer too. But I want my gun. I think because of the low #'s of these made it will be going up in value.

yep, I'd rather have the gun too, esp. since I have old pre-ban hi caps for it :D
see if any of you guys can get in touch with James- maybe he can give a better delivery estimate.

Their finishing up all of the guns they should be done no later than by the end of next week. After that no mas ppsh's but we will have a small over run of about 14 guns so if you want one we'll be posting them for sale on gunbroker. Thanks for your patience.

Holy canolli, I just got back from DROSing my short shroud version. Looks really good.

A tad over 27 weeks of this --> :toetap05: but I'm happy with what I've seen so far. Hope she runs as good as she looks. Guess I'll know in 9 days, 23 hours or so.

At least you got a short shroud. I got to wait for a long shroud, waiting to hear back if they have any shorties around, kinda ticked that long shrouds shipped weeks ago.

I was under the impression that all the long shrouds had shipped long ago and the shorties were the ones that took this long. Well, will see if they have any short shrouds left.

snobordr- I got sent a long shroud one too :(
I wonder if they ran out or something.. that kinda sucks.... it's still pretty cool, but we ordered short shrouded guns...

Oh well- I was torn between getting a long or short one.. I guess the decision was made for me!

-Dave

PS- you know, looking at the thing, it wouldn't be too hard to have shortened sometime in the future..

Sucks that some of you guys didn't get a SS version like you wanted. Does it say "short shroud" on your invoice? Mine does.

Any of the other guys who ordered SS's willing to tell us what they were actually shipped?

Allied Armament
09-04-2008, 7:50 AM
We shipped what was stated on the invoice. I think some people wanted either or but didn't specify at purchase. Either way the guns all work the same and will make a for a great investment. If you wanted to short shroud the gun we will be selling spare barrels with extensions that you can use for cut downs. Or you can order a complete receiver from interordinance that has the short shroud with barrel installed and just swap out the receiver. If you do swap your receiver (sell or keep your old one) send us the striker or request a modified striker for the interordinance receiver and we'll do it free of charge.

What about those of us that specified at purchase, confirmed by you in thread, and still got the long shrouds? At this point, 6 months later I will take it, but it feels like the fuzzy side of the lollipop to me. As far as the extra receiver option, this gun has already cost me to DROS fees, I will just cut my losses at this point.

As far as the invoice, I wouldn't know. Mine showed up with no paperwork whatsoever, IA didn't know who it belonged to. I do see a post here where James acknowledged my order for the short shroud but thats all I have to go on.
